Abstract

Psychosocial problems in the elderly are a quite common health problem in this decade. Changes in the elderly related to psychosocial problems include changes in mental status, ability in decision making, affective function, conflict with reality and social support. This evidence-based community service activity consists of health promotion of depression in the elderly, education on depression screening using Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale (DASS) tools, and socialization and implementation of the Depression-Aware Elderly Group. The activity was held in Mekarjaya Village, Depok in September-November 2020 and was attended by 42 elderly and cadres. Based on the measurement results, it was concluded that there was an increase in people's understanding of the depression condition experienced by the elderly where the mean value before the intervention was 0.46, increasing to 3.21 after the intervention. Other than that, the problem of depression in the elderly needs to be considered by the government and becomes one of the priority programs.

Abstract

Schizophrenia cannot be defined as a separate disease, but is thought to be a syndrome or disease process that includes many types with various symptoms. Family support is assistance that can be given to other family members in the form of goods, services, information and advice that can make the support recipient feel loved, appreciated and at peace. The family provides support, attention and affection by caring for, administering treatment and controlling medication intake for mental disorders patients. This study aims to determine the relationship between family support and medication adherence for mental disorder patients. This research uses a quantitative research design with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study were patients with schizophrenia in the working area of the Karang Tengah Community Health Center. Samples were collected using a total sampling technique, namely 35 people. Data were collected using the family support questionnaire (KDK) and the Morisky Medication Adhrence Scale-8 (MMAS-8) questionnaire with an r table value of 0.056. The data was then analyzed using the chi square test (α<0.05). From the results of the bivariate chi square analysis statistical test, the p-value = 0.002 or p <0.05 was obtained. Conclusion: H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, thus indicating that there is a relationship between family support and medication adherence in schizophrenia. Suggestion: It is hoped that the family can provide optimal support to the patient, always controlling their treatment/taking the medicines that have been prescribed.

Abstract

Dementia is a progressive decline in cognitive abilities characterized by memory loss that affects everyday abilities. As a result of this decline, elderly people with dementia problems are often considered unable to communicate the changes they experience. The purpose of this paper is to find out whether the meaning of cognitive and psychosocial changes perceived by the elderly with dementia through a phenomenological study of ten elderly people with mild-moderate dementia. The method of analysis and presentation of descriptive phenomenology data in this study used a structured and specific analysis method developed by Moustakas by modifying the Stevick-Colaizzi-Keen method. The results of this study show that elderly people with mild to moderate dementia have the ability to share their experiences in dealing with changes due to dementia. The changes perceived by the elderly towards dementia they experience consist of a decrease in cognitive function and a decrease in psychosocial function. The decrease in cognitive function is felt by the elderly with dementia through frequent difficulties in remembering information, decreased ability to manage finances, and decreased intelligence. Decreased psychosocial function is felt by elderly dementia through behavioral changes, skill changes, and decreased communication skills. The conclusion of this study is the ability of elderly people with dementia to share their experiences related to changes when experiencing mild to moderate dementia indicates that the elderly in LTC institutions have been educated enough about their ability to see signs and symptoms of dementia in the early stages. Suggestions for LTC institution organizers are periodic screening of dementia independence and screening for consideration in providing services to the elderly with dementia.

Abstract

Introduction: A person aged sixty years and above is considered elderly. The aging process will naturally occur in individuals within this age group. As a result of the degenerative processes associated with aging, most elderly people experience a decline in physiological functions, making them more vulnerable to various diseases, including hypertension. Hypertension, a disease that affects the blood vessels, can hinder the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to body tissues. Research objective: to find out how the knowledge of the elderly affects the prevention of recurrent hypertension. Method: A literature review of several selected articles was used in this research. Regarding the knowledge of elderly people in preventing hypertension recurrence, participants expressed two themes, namely knowledge influences hypertension recurrence and quality of life influences hypertension recurrence. For those suffering from hypertension, in order to manage their blood pressure effectively and prevent recurrence of this disease, knowledge and a good quality of life regarding this condition is very important.

Abstract

Masalah kurangnya kesadaran gizi pada anak usia dini, khususnya terkait sarapan sehat, masih menjadi tantangan di sekolah TK. Anak-anak cenderung memilih makanan praktis seperti mie instan, gorengan, dan minuman manis, yang berdampak pada penurunan konsentrasi dan kesiapan belajar. Program pengabdian masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di TK Berdikari Desa Karangpring, Jember, dengan tujuan meningkatkan pengetahuan dan kebiasaan sarapan sehat pada anak usia dini. Kegiatan dilakukan melalui pendekatan edukasi partisipatif yang melibatkan guru, orang tua, dan siswa, dengan metode ceramah interaktif, demonstrasi, permainan edukatif, serta diskusi kelompok. Evaluasi menggunakan analisis kualitatif pre dan post intervensi menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan, perilaku, dan penerapan sarapan sehat. Sebelum edukasi, sebagian besar anak belum memahami komposisi gizi seimbang, sementara setelahnya mayoritas mulai memilih sarapan dengan karbohidrat, protein, sayur, buah, dan minuman sehat. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa edukasi berbasis sekolah efektif dalam membentuk kebiasaan makan sehat, meningkatkan konsentrasi belajar, serta mendukung tumbuh kembang anak. Program ini merekomendasikan kolaborasi berkelanjutan antara sekolah, keluarga, dan komunitas dalam membudayakan pola sarapan bergizi sejak dini.
