Abstract

This study aims to describe the errors made by students in mathematics word problem of proportion topic based on Newmans’ criteria in term of student learning styles. The data collection techniques used are learning styles questionnaire, diagnostic tests and interviews then through three stages of data analysis that are data condensation, presentation, and conclusion. The result of the research showed that the indicator of the direct proportion errors made by (1) subject of visual learning style is encoding errors, (2) subject of auditory learning style are reading errors, comprehension errors, transformation errors, process skill errors and encoding errors, and (3) subject of kinesthetic learning style are comprehension errors, transformation errors, process skill errors and encoding errors. In addition the indicator of the inverse proportion errors made by (1) subject of visual learning style are transformation errors, process skill errors and encoding errors (2) subject of auditory learning style are transformation errors, process skill errors and encoding errors, and (3) subject of kinesthetic learning style are transformation errors, process skill errors and encoding errors.

Abstract

This research was conducted to find out the description of the kind of mistakes made by students in solving mathematics problems based on PISA on Change and Relationship content in terms of the initial capability that was adapted from Newman's error analysis. This research is qualitative research with descriptive approach involves the subject as much as 6 students of class IX selected based on the value of mathematics and the recommendation of the teacher. The research instrument using 4 grains of math problems based on PISA devoted to the content change and relationship and the interview. The results of the research showed that: (1) Students with high mathematics skills are perform the type of transformation error, process skill, and encoding; (2) Students with medium mathematics skills are performing the type of transformation error, process skill, and encoding; and (3) Students with low mathematics skills are performing the type of comprehension, transformation, process skill, and encoding error.

Abstract

This research is a qualitative research, it amis to describe the students’ difficulties in solving three-dimensional problems on the flat-side material. By using purposive sampling technique, then the subjects in this research were 3 students on grade VIII, that is subject KF, subject KK, subject KO and subject KP. For data collection, the instruments used are diagnostic test and interviews. The results showed that (1) Subject KF having facts difficulty relating to the inability to interpret the final results obtained; identify examples and non-example of the concept and an inability to assert concepts, inability to further identify the subject seen from an inability to answer correctly questions provided. The inability of the subject confirms looks of doubt in giving the reasons selecting and deselecting the image. Subject KK also have difficulty in distinguishing geometrical geometrical prism and pyramid; (3) Subject KO having operating difficulty. This is evident from the subject mistake in conducting the operation. Subject KO wrong in doing operations related to the sequence of operations and how to solve equations using division; and (4) Subject KP having principle difficulty. This is evident from the inability of the subject determines the appropriate formula with the given problem. Subject KP capable of memorizing formulas but can not adjust the formula to the problem.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effectiveness of implementing SAVI approach with cooperative script setting in students’ mathematics learning of Grade IX SMP Negeri 33 Makassar by clicking refer to the three criteria of effectiveness of learning, i.e students’ learning achievement, students’ activities and responses. The data analysis technique that used was the technique of descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. The results analysis of this research are: 1) the average percentage of students who was taught by SAVI approach with cooperative script setting is greater than 73 (KKM), (2) the average value of normalized gain is 0,79 (high category), (3) the average percentage of students’ activities is 92%, (4) the average percentage of students who gave positive responses to the implementation of learning is 94%, (5) there is a significant difference in mathematics learning achievement before and after the use of the SAVI approach with cooperative script setting. From these results it can be concluded that learning with SAVI approach with cooperative script setting is effective to be used in students’ mathematics learning of Grade IX of SMP Negeri 33 Makassar.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine effect of self efficacy, emotional intelegence, and learning motivation on Student’s mathematics Learning achievement of grade XI IPA of SMA at Makassar. This research is ex post facto research which is causality with research sample counted 132 students from class XI IPA SMA at Makassar selected by using random sampling. Technique of collecting data using instrument: (1) questionnaire of self efficacy, (2) questionnaire of emotional intelegence, (3) questionnaire of learning motivation, and (4) test result of mathematics learning. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics and inferential statistics with path analysis. The result of the research shows that: (1) the student's self efficacy is in the high category, (2) the student's emotional intelegence is in the high category, (3) the student's learning motivation is in the high category, (4) student’s mathematics learning achievement in the medium category, (5) student’s self efficacy directly effect on student’s mathematics learning achievement, (6) student’s emotional intelegence directly effect on student’s mathematics learning achievement, (7) student’s learning motivation directly effect student’s mathematics learning achievement, (8) student’s self efficacy indirectly effect on student’s mathematics learning achievement through variable learning motivation , (9) student’s emotional intelegence indirectly effect on student’s mathematics learning achievement through variable learning motivation.

Abstract

This research is a quasi experimental research which aims to know the influence of cooperative learning model type multi representative discourse towards mathematics learning achievement of 7th grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Mengkendek, Tana Toraja.The population is students of SMP Negeri 5 Mengkendek academic year2017/2018. Sampling technique is cluster method, in this case selected 2 class as experimental class and control class. Data collection is observation sheet of learning implementation and test of mathematics learning achievement. Data analysis used SPSS statistical data processing program. The result of descriptive statistical analysis shows: (1) learning implementation by using cooperative learning model type multi representative discoursein very good category (2) the implementation of learning by using conventional learning model in very good category, (3) mathematics learning achievement of two classin high category, whereas in the experimental class obtained average score 85.74 with standard deviation 8.49 from the ideal score 100 and in the control class obtained average score 80.13 with deviation 6.45 from ideal score 100. The result of inferential analysis shows the learning achievement of students used cooperative learning model type multi representative discourse is higher than the result of student used conventional learning model.

Abstract

This research was pre experimental research. The experimental design used was One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design which aims to describe and to know the problem solving ability of students of class VIII 3 was taught by applying the model of Missouri Mathematics Project of grade VIII 3. The population was the students of class VIII and the sample was class VIII 3 consisting of 30 students as an experimental class. Based on the results of research and discussion, students were able to solve mathematical problems based on indicators of mathematical problem solving ability. The result of hypothesis test shows: 1)The mean posttest score of the students meets the determined KKM value that is greater equal to 78. This means that the postest average value is significantly greater than 77.9; 2)The average normalized gain value exceeds the medium category. This means that the average value of the gain normalized significantly more than 0.29; and 3)The posttest score obtained by the students has been completed by classical test based on the proportion test. This means that the classical mastery of students' mathematical problem solving abilities after the applied learning model of the Missouri Mathematics Project is significantly more than 0.849.

Abstract

This research is a qualitative descriptive research that aims to describe the ability of problem solving mathematically viewed from the early ability of mathematics and gender differences. The subjects of this study were six students. The six students were selected based on the Mathematics Ability test scores divided into high, medium, and low categories with two men each and one woman representing each level of math skills on SPLDV material by taking the highest grades from each capability category. The six subjects were given the Mathematical Problem Solving Ability Test I and the Mathematics Problem Solving Ability Test II at different times. Data analysis techniques using qualitative analysis. The results of this study indicate that: (1) Indicators mention things that are known and questioned by all subjects, (2) Indicators to make problem-solving plans from things known for problem solving are shared by all subjects, (3) Indicators carry out problem solving through a plan that has been made owned by all subjects, (4) Indicators of re-examination of existing answers owned by all subjects.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the factors that cause student misconceptions form 9th grade on algebraic form fraction in terms of the principles of constructivism learning theory. This type of research is qualitative research using a descriptive approach. The subjects in this study were 5 grade 9 students who experienced the most misconceptions with the lowest scores. The instrument used in this study was a student misconception diagnostic test consisting of several descriptive items accompanied by Certainty of Response Index (CRI) and an interview guide. The principles of constructivism learning theory referred to in this study are the learning environment, students' initial knowledge, student abilities, student activeness in learning and student learning experiences. The results showed that the misconception was caused by several factors, both internal and external, in terms of the principles of constructivism theory.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze students' conceptual understanding of relation and function material based on APOS theory in terms of mathematical ability. The subject of research are threestudents. The instruments used were tests of mathematics ability, tests of conceptual understanding in the relation and function material based on APOS theory, and interview. The result of the research showed that: (1) Students with high mathematical ability understand the concept of relation and function materialby performing operations algebraically (action), sketching graphs; observed function as an input-output machine; and explain the definition of function (process), explained the relationships between relation and function; understand the unique properties of function (object), and apply concepts (schema). (2) Students with average mathematical ability understand the concepts of relation and function material by performing operations algebraically (action), sketching graphs; observed function as an input-output machine; and explained the function definition (process),and understand the unique properties of function (object). (3) Students with low mathematical ability understand the concept of relation and functionmaterial by performing operations algebraically (action), sketching graphs, and observed function as aninput-output machine (process).
