Abstract

This study aim to analyze the effect of the mass and diameter of the waste valve on the efficiency of hydraulic pumps. This study method was an experiment on the specimens and analyzing the mathematical equations contained in the hydraulic pump theory. The data measured in this study were the flow of water in, discharge of wastewater, and discharge of water out. Independent variables in this study were the mass of the waste valve, namely 1.5 kg, 2.0 kg, 2.5 kg, 3.0 kg and the diameter of the waste valve was 2.0 inches, 2.25 inches, and 2.50 inches. While the dependent variable were the discharge and efficiency of the hydraulic pump. The results show that the mass of the waste valve and the diameter of the waste valve affected the efficiency of the hydraulic pump. The highest efficiency of the hydraulic pump occurred at a waste valve mass of 1.5 kg and a waste valve diameter of 2.5 inches which was 78.08%, and the lowest efficiency occurred at a mass of 3.0 kg waste valve and a 2.0-inch diameter of a waste valve which was 33. 56%.

Abstract

Watugong Village, located in Alok Timur District, Sikka Regency, is a traditional agricultural area where maize serves as both a staple crop and an integral part of local cultural heritage. However, post-harvest processing—particularly the shelling of maize kernels from the cob—is still conducted manually, leading to inefficiency and reduced grain quality. Attempts at mechanization through modern machines have often proven unsuitable due to their high cost, complexity, and incompatibility with the needs of small-scale farmers. To address this issue, the Mechanical Engineering Department of Politeknik Cristo Re developed a 20 kg-capacity maize shelling machine that is ergonomic, affordable, and easy to operate. Powered by a 0.75 kW electric motor, the machine employs a transmission system comprising pulleys, V-belts, and a silent chain, enabling it to increase shelling efficiency by more than 4.5 times compared to manual methods. Performance tests show a shelling capacity of up to 400 kg/hour with minimal kernel damage. The novelty of this machine lies in its participatory design approach and use of locally available materials and components. This innovation serves as a tangible example of appropriate technology grounded in local wisdom, supporting improved productivity, farmer self-reliance, and sustainable food security in rural communities.

Abstract

This research analyzes the effect of three oil brands, namely MPX1, Federal Ultratec, and Enduro 4T on engine operating temperature and fuel consumption on the Honda Revo Fit 110 cc PGM-FI motorbike. The test was carried out at an engine speed of 17,000 rpm for 30 minutes using Pertalite fuel. The parameters observed include engine temperature and remaining fuel volume. The results show that the type of oil influences thermal performance and fuel efficiency. MPX1 oil produces the highest temperature of 111°C with the most economical fuel consumption (968 ml remaining). The Federal Ultratec showed a temperature of 109°C with 900 ml remaining, while the Enduro 4T had a low of 107°C with 880 ml remaining. MPX1 with the semi-synthetic SAE 10W-30 formulation has better viscosity stability than the other two mineral oils, so it is able to maintain combustion efficiency and engine performance. Overall, the MPX1 provides the most optimal performance, the Federal Ultratec excels in engine protection at high loads, and the Enduro 4T is better in lowering operating temperatures. Choosing oil that matches engine specifications is an important factor in maintaining fuel efficiency and engine durability.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of polyethylene (PE) and rice husk ash (RHA) composition variations on the mechanical properties of recycled composites developed as environmentally friendly ceiling materials. Composite specimens were prepared through a systematic process involving shredding PE plastic waste into 3–5 mm particles, burning rice husks at 600–700 °C followed by sieving through a 200-mesh screen, melting the plastic at 160–170 °C, and mixing with RHA at three composition ratios: 80:20, 70:30, and 60:40 (PE:RHA). The mixtures were molded into 50 × 50 mm specimens and tested in accordance with ASTM D695 for compressive properties and ASTM D792 for density. The results show that composition variation significantly influences compressive strength, elastic modulus, and strain behavior. The 80:20 composition exhibited the highest elasticity, with a compressive strength of 15.59 MPa and an elastic modulus of 463.50 MPa; however, it fractured shortly after exceeding the elastic limit. The 60:40 composition achieved the highest compressive strength of 125 MPa with a strain of 56.6%, but showed brittle behavior due to its very low elastic modulus (7.5 MPa). The 70:30 composition demonstrated the most balanced mechanical performance, with a compressive strength of 61.65 MPa, a strain of 18.20%, and stable ductile behavior. Based on the overall mechanical performance, the 70:30 PE–RHA composition is recommended as the optimal formulation, as it provides the best balance between strength, stiffness, and deformation resistance. This composition is therefore considered the most suitable for non-structural ceiling applications requiring lightweight, mechanically stable, and environmentally sustainable materials.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to apply automotive expertise through free vehicle servicing at the Sikka Naker Fest event in Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. This activity was motivated by the low public awareness of the importance of regular vehicle maintenance. The method used was descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques through observation, short interviews, and activity documentation. The activity implementation included preparation, minor vehicle servicing, and activity evaluation. The results showed that most vehicles experienced minor technical problems, such as unusable oil and suboptimal brake and chain adjustments. The free servicing had a positive impact on improving vehicle performance and public understanding of vehicle maintenance. The community responded positively and felt helped by this activity. This automotive expertise-based community service activity was effective in improving driving safety and providing direct benefits to the community.

Abstract

This study evaluated the suitability of chopper motorcycle designs to the anthropometrics of 40 male users aged 20–25 at Cristo Re Polytechnic. Measurements of five body parameters showed high variation in size, and all variables were found to be non-normally distributed based on the Shapiro–Wilk test (p < 0.05). Ergonomic analysis revealed that several motorcycle dimensions did not match the body characteristics of the majority of users. The 110 cm handlebar height was 15 cm below the actual hand reach height (125 cm), causing shoulder elevation and increasing static load. The 70 cm handlebar-seat distance also exceeded the ideal reach (62 cm), forcing the rider to lean forward, increasing shoulder and back muscle tension. Furthermore, the footrest, positioned far forward, overextended the legs and increased pressure on the hips and lower back. These findings indicate an increased risk of fatigue and musculoskeletal disorders. Design recommendations include raising the handlebars to 130–135 cm, reducing the handlebar-seat distance to approximately 62 cm, and lowering the footrest by 5–10 cm with an increase of approximately 3 cm in height to achieve a more ergonomic riding posture.
