Abstract

The hybrid Eucalyptus urograndis IND 47 is a hybrid between Eucalyptus urophylla ST Blake and Eucalyptus grandis ex Maid W.Hill developed in operational scale in PT Toba Pulp Lestari Tbk (TPL). Therefore, a research had been  conducted on E. urograndis IND 47 in Estate A, sector of Aek Nauli, PT TPLTbk. The aim of this research was to predict biomass of E. urograndis IND 47. The results showed that the biomass of E.urograndis IND 47 in Estate A was 8,431.25 tons for total area of 367.38 ha compartment with an average biomass was 22.95 tons /ha with ages of 1-3.3 years. Biomass differences caused by differences in ages of trees, number of trees in each compartment and environmental factors. Keywords: biomass, Eucalyptus urograndis IND 47, PT Toba Pulp Lestari Tbk

Abstract

Water is the most essential need for human and people will pay no matter how to get it, so that the water can be said a non economic good. The forest as the main function of the Hydrological cycle which is a unified system that can’t be separated, but the people in Hapesong Baru village still not understand the value of economic benefits available from water in the Parsariran River. This study aimed to determine the economic value of water in quantitative household in subdistrict of Batang Toru and to determine the economic value estimate household water needs from Parsariran River. This study conducted on August 1 to September 7, 2013, using the model cuantitative collecting data through interviews with respondents. The result showed that the value of the benefits of total household water is Rp. 28,482,522,- - in one year, with an average value of benefits domestic water obtained is Rp. 418 860 , - in one year/household. The model estimates the economic value of water equal to the household sector is Y = 19,86 X1-0,0618. The results can be seen that the value of the economic benefits of domestic water has contributed greatly to the needs of the community .Keywords: Water Consumption Prediction, Economic value of water, Parsariran River

Abstract

Carbondioxide (CO2) produced by the fumes and industrial activities can harm humans if there are no trees or urban forests that can absorb CO2 and emissions resulting from human activities. Therefore, an effort to reduce air pollutants such as CO2 gas in urban areas, especially the city of Medan is a way to build a green open space in the form of urban forests. This study aimed to calculate the amount of CO2 emitted and the amount of O2 required in Medan based emissions from motor vehicles, human respiratory and industry and widely suspected optimal urban forest based on the function of absorbing CO2 and producing O2. Estimation results indicate that the total CO2 emissions in the city of Medan in 2014 amounted to 2,659,091.01 tons while demand for O2 in Medan in 2014 amounted to 2,430,843.07 tons . So the ability of the urban forest in the form of urban parks and green line in absorbing CO2 14683.84 tons and the capability of producing O2 amounted to 5551.2 tons .Keywords : CO2 emissions , O2 Demand, CO2 Absorbance, O2 Production, city park, green belt.

Abstract

Green belt is one of the green open spaces are quite effective in absorbing carbon emissions and pollutant gases around the highway in the city.  Plants were grown in a green belt has the ability to absorb carbon emissions. Because it is necessary to do the calculation of the carbon stored in various green belt in the secondary arterial roads Medan city. The purpose of this research was to calculate the potential carbon is stored in various green belt in the secondary arterial roads Medan. Sampling lines and plant samples was conducted using purposive sampling and census methods. Calculation data using allometric models. The results showed that there are 8 types of plants on the green belt of research of the kind that most dominating is Palem Raja (Oreodoxa regia). The highest value of carbon stored by type of plant found in plant angsana (Pterocarpus indicus) with a total value of carbon stored in the 8 green belt, namely 525,337 Ton/Ha, or an average of 65,67 Ton/Ha. The highest value of carbon stored by the green belt of research there is on the path to Balai Kota street, district of Medan Barat with a value of 274,985 Ton/Ha. Keywords: green belt, carbon stock, secondary arterial roads, allometric models.

Abstract

The research is purposed to assess the financial feasibility of agroforestry system which consisted of “suren” (Toona sureni Merr.) and arabica coffee (Coffea arabica L.) in Aek Nauli and Sipolha Horizon Village, North Sumatra. The data was collected from farmers in both villages from March up to July 2015, then analysed using financial feasibility parameters such as NPV, BCR, and IRR. The results shows that this farming system is financially feasible at the interest rates of 5,65% for the average farming scale amounted to 0,22 hectares per 15 years cycle. This system emerges NPV value IDR. 166.792.215,73/cycle/farm, BCR value is 22,80, and IRR is 38,90%. Based on these findings it is needed to compensate additional input for the farmers who can’t harvest their suren which is located on the buffer zone because the stands are utilized to conserve the vulnerable site. Abstract

Measurement of carbon stock is very important to know how much carbon that can be absorbed by plants. Object of this research was the understorey on stands Mindi (Melia azedarach) and Mahoni (Swietenia macrophylla). The method of measurement used is the destructive sampling method that is the way to harvest the entire understorey which is at 1m x 1m sample plots.  The results of this study indicate that the type of stands under the influence of the composition of the existing understorey under the stand so that the carbon content in the understorey was different. The average of carbon understorey on the second stands is 1.08 tons/ ha. Keywords: understorey, Mindi (Melia azedarach) Mahoni (Swietenia macrophylla), carbon stock.

Abstract

Urban reforestation is one of the efforts made to bring the city into an residential area that  environmentally insights with a beautiful atmosphere, harmonious and cool which can be done in many ways. Many urban lands were converted into residential functioned and shops. This research aimed to determine which area has the potential to be developed into a reforestation area. The method was divided into two phases of data collection and data processing stage. The results of this study indicated that the Medan Tuntungan district level has a greenish relatively balanced with data showing the percentage of green open space of 25.27%. Areas that could potentially be used as the location of the greening plan were Simpang Selayang Village, Tanjung Selamat Village, Lau Cih Village, Namu Gajah Village and Kemenangan Tani Village. Abstract

Forest land use to agriculture recognized cause problems such as decreased soil fertility, erosion, extinction of flora and fauna, floods, droughts and even global environmental change. One land management system to tackle this problem is the model of agroforestry. Silvopastura management in the village of Aman Damai is still underdeveloped, and the lack of research related to land management system with silvopastura. Based on this, the study aims to identify the components of silvopastura, to know silvopastura practice contributes to the household income, and analyze factors that affect the income of silvopastura farmers in the Aman Damai of village. This research was done in May 2015. Sampling was done by purposive and methods used in the form of multiple linear regression analysis. The research showed that Component of silvopastura In Aman Damai village include component (wood plants) in the form of multipurpose tree species (MPTs) with the components of the farm (pasture). Multipurpose tree species that was developed is avocado, star fruit, durian, guava, citrus, cocoa, rubber, kuini, olive, mango, jackfruit, petai, Rambe, rambutan, and sapodilla. While the type of pasture being developed are chickens, goats, buffaloes, and cows. Silvopastura practices contribute to the household income of Rp. 397. 368. 000 (52.56%), greater than the contribution of farming to household income is Rp. 358.800.000 (47, 44%). The independent variables that significantly affect the dependent variable is a variable number of pasture and land ownership. Keywords : Farmers income, Silvopastoral, Multipurpose trees species (MPTS), Aman Damai Village.
