Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between interpersonal communication and self-motivation in supporting the independence of blind students at the Bina Insan Mulia Cianjur (BIMCI) Islamic Boarding School. This research focuses on how communication interactions between teachers, administrators, and students can help students with blind disabilities develop independence in everyday life. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation. The results showed that harmonious interpersonal relationships, based on the Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientation (FIRO) theory, which includes dimensions of inclusion, control, and compassion, are able to create empowering interactions. Self-motivation analyzed through Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is also a key element in encouraging students to achieve self-actualization, which is supported by the fulfillment of basic needs such as security and acceptance. Open communication patterns, attention to individual needs, and the presence of teachers as companions make a significant contribution in increasing the confidence and independence of blind students. This research provides important implications for the need for inclusion-based communication training for teachers as well as the development of pesantren policies that support the sustainability of santri independence. The results of this study can enrich the study of communication science by presenting a new perspective on the application of FIRO theory and Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs in the context of inclusive community-based education.

Abstract

The racial, cultural, and religious diversity present in Indonesia poses its own challenges to the education system. Instead of being a source of division, these differences should be seen as an asset. This underscores the necessity of multicultural education. KH. Hasyim Asy'ari and KH. Abdurrahaman Wahid are two figures who have made significant contributions to the progress of Indonesia, particularly in the field of multicultural Islamic education. Therefore, it is important to examine the ideas of these two figures using qualitative methods and a literature review approach. The multicultural Islamic education they advocated has proven effective in addressing conflicts and divisions.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: Coffee is a popular ergogenic beverage that improves stamina and reduces fatigue. Coffee's caffeine content is thought to be the main ingredient in ergogenic supplements, which increase endurance during physical activity. Objective: This study investigates the acute effect of brewed coffee on muscle fatigue markers, namely blood lactate and volume of oxygen maximum (VO2max), in sedentary males after a standardized physical activity protocol. Methods: This research was quasi-experimental (posttest-only with a control group design). The subjects were men aged 18-22 years, with 16 people. They were divided into a control group (n=9) and a intervention group (n=7). The intervention was heavy physical activity (1600-meter run) and Gayo Arabica coffee. Data analysis used an independent sample t-test (p < 0.05).Results: Blood lactate levels were significantly higher in the intervention group than in the control group (15.04 ± 2.38 vs. 10.60 ± 4.10; p = 0.018), even though VO2max values were higher but not statistically significant (39.57 ± 2.37 vs. 37.62 ± 4.17; p = 0.297).Conclusions: Coffee consumption considerably raises blood lactate levels, but it has no discernible effect on VO2max values in sedentary men who exercise vigorously. Therefore, more research is necessary to fully understand how coffee affects ergogenic and fatigue. Keywords: Coffee; VO2max; blood lactate; sedentary; heavy physical activity

Abstract

Abstract: Cardiorespiratory fitness examinations are an effort to improve health and early detection of heart disease, including hypertension, in the community. Considering that hypertension is a lifetime risk disease and a silent killer, early detection activities are essential to reduce the risk of death due to complications. This Community Service Activity (CSA) aims to conduct health checks and cardiorespiratory fitness levels in the community, especially the young age group. This activity is carried out using the health check method (anamnesis, resting pulse rate, and blood pressure (BP)) and cardiorespiratory fitness checks by measuring the Maximum Oxygen Volume (VO₂ max) value. The partners in this CSA activity are a group of young men (aged 19-22 years) totaling 12 people in Banda Aceh. Evaluation of blood pressure examination results is normal if the systolic value is <120 mmHg and diastolic <80 mmHg. The results show that twelve people have normal blood pressure and pulse. The VO2max value shows that one person (8.33%) has good cardiorespiratory fitness, and ten people (83.34%) have cardiorespiratory fitness in the sufficient category. It was found that one person (8.33%) had poor cardiorespiratory fitness, and we have recommended further examination to health services. We suggest that regular cardiorespiratory fitness monitoring is needed, and public education is also needed about the importance of conducting cardiorespiratory examinations and physical activity to reduce the risk of hypertension.
