Abstract

Freshwater and energy scarce are now becoming most important issues worldwide. Freshwater or potable water is the most important for human life. The rapid growth of population and industrialization contribute on the freshwater scarce. Conventional energy such as fossil fuel faces the similar trend with freshwater scarce since it is not renewable. The price of conventional energy is increased along with the scarcity. Desalination techniques have been developed for decades to be alterative way in providing freshwater. The desalination processes are driven by energy either thermal, mechanical and electricity.Efficiency for desalination system using simulation/Matlab, driven by renewable energy has derived great attention from scholars and engineer worldwide to get over freshwater need and energy issues. One of major concern in this field is to develop low cost desalination system that driven by renewable energy.

Abstract

One of the utilization of x-Ray on medical area is radiogram. Result of the radiogram can determine patient diagnosis of disease. More clearly the result of imaging, can bring pecise and accurate diagnosis. To solve that problem, we need to calculate distance between X-Ray tube and object, type of film, screen kaset, and also situation or condition of body weight either mature, child or infant to determine exposure factors. Exposure factors is kilovolt, miliampere and time. That exposure factors means electrical load toward X-Ray tube to produce radiant intensity. Interlock system is used to prevent useless generation of X-Ray and doesn’t produce diagnostic value. In this research using fuzzy logic to determine exposure factors on thorax examination which is implemented in software by  using pre-defined reference data. By input distance, body weight, body height in software will be obtained appropriate exposure factors setting for radiografer. By determining the focus distance of the appropriate (valid) film, then the fuzzy logic system can build an interlock system that will prevent the useless x-rays. The results showed that data taken from a radiographer in a local hospital in Semarang compared with the output of exposure factor software was appropriate and when interlock system is activated the fuzzy control system can prevent the generation of x-rays

Abstract

Efforts to save fuel consumption on tankers is absolutely necessary because in shipping it always faces waves and currents that inhibit the speed of the ship so that the shipping time is longer. If this happens, the fuel consumption of the ship will increase and waste will occur. This study aims to analyze fuel savings on tankers as oil supply vessels to meet domestic fuel needs. Savings are carried out by utilizing the heat energy of the exhaust gas of the propulsion main engine as a steam generator in the exhaust gas boiler (EGB). The steam production process takes place when the ship is in a sailing condition where the main engine has reached the maximum rotation. Exhaust gas boilers work with 16.5 bar pressure steam used as turbo generators to replace auxiliary engines to work as electricity generators as long as ships are on the cruise. In order to ensure the condition of the steam production system remains normal at work pressure so that the turbo generator working system remains stable for that exhaust gas boiler is equipped with automatic equipment both in the filling water supply system and ignition auxiliary boiler ignition system. Thus, as long as the ship is in shipping all the electricity needs are charged to the turbo generator, so practically with the application of this system resulting in savings in fuel consumption of MFO / MDO type vessels reaching 11.2% on each cruise. Abstract

Deaerator is an important component in the process of steam power plant, which serves to remove gases contained in boiler water. The level of the deaerator tank should be maintained in accordance with the specified set point. If the level is too low it will effect to disrupt the performance of the boiler feed pump. If  the level is too high it will lead to overflow and disrupt the steam production process. This study discusses the analysis of Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) cascade control using tuning Ziegler-Nichols (ZN) and Tyerus Luyben (TL) methods to control deaerator level. The tuning parameter in the primary loop and the secondary loop will be varied on the cascade loop control is used to analyze the performance of PID control. To perform verification system, such as Peak Time (Tp), Overshoot (Mp), Error Steady State (ESS) and Settling Time (Ts) a simulink Matlab is proposed. Four tuning PIDs on the cascade loop are: ZN-ZN, ZN-TL, TL-TL, TL-ZN get results that are able and get stability to follow the set point level. Tuning PID TL-TL method has the most ideal response result in use for deaerator level control at steam power plant because it has the lowest overshoot response of all three other cascade loop tuning methods. The transient response system has obtained values Tp=2,06 seconds, Mp=22,23%, Ess=0,7%, Ts=13,54 seconds.

Abstract

Among the sources of electrical energy used in remote areas or mountains are using micro hydro power plants (PLTMH). The problem that arises in PLTMH Curug Muncar is the low power factor (cos ϴ) in the distribution. The power factor measured in users / consumers is an average of 0.7. One of the reasons for this is the varied type and use of loads on consumers, resulting in waste reactive power.               As an alternative solution to these problems is to compensate for electrical power to load changes that are very dynamic. From the reference, it shows that the Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) is the most effective reactive power compensator.               STATCOM is located in the position between the generator and load variation. The reactive power settings by STATCOM occur by comparing the value of the terminal voltage between STATCOM and the system. If the STATCOM voltage is lower than the system, the STATCOM will absorb reactive power from the system. Meanwhile, if the STATCOM voltage is higher than the system, the STATCOM will generate reactive power to the system               STATCOM is able to compensate for reactive power with a very fast time (0.3 seconds) and is able to absorb or provide reactive power to the distribution. STATCOM is able to change cos θ from 0.7 to 0.93. The repaired voltage is close to the given Vrms value. Keywords: PLTMH. STATCOM, Reactive Power

Abstract

In the modern world, electrical energy is very important to support all activities in office buildings, educational facilities, industrial complexes and household activities. The problem that occurs in the use of electricity is the lack of understanding of energy conservation from the consumer side. This causes the waste of electrical energy. An alternative solution to this problem is an effort to make efficient use of electrical energy from the consumer side. By applying Demand Side Management (DSM) to the building, an efficient and rational use of electrical energy is obtained. To implement DSM it is necessary to conduct an energy audit of the building. By conducting an energy audit then Energy Use Intensity (EUI) and the profile of electrical energy usage is obtained. After EUI and the energy use profile are known then energy policy recommendations are determined in the building. By using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) an alternative set of decisions is made that is right in reducing electricity consumption so that it reaches the desired efficiency point in accordance with building management policies The results of processing from AHP obtained an alternative set of electrical energy efficiency according to its weight is the regulation of the use of office facilities by 48.5%, maintenance of existing equipment by 31.1%, utilization of new energy-saving technologies by 20.4%. Keywords: Energy Audit, EUI, DSM, AHP.
