Abstract

Job demands on employees are currently increasingly high. High work intensity is characterized by continuous work. Continuous work tends to drain energy and can make employees burn out. One of the negative behaviors that employees carry out to protect themselves from fatigue and protect their self-esteem is by engaging in self-handicapping behavior. Self-handicapping behavior is a person's behavior to limit or provide reasons related to performance that is not optimal. Researchers want to know the dynamics of employees when carrying out self-handicapping behavior. Data collection for this research was carried out using interviews, but was deepened using questionnaires and observations. This research found that targets are the biggest factor in self-handicapping behavior. Furthermore, support from colleagues is one way for employees to avoid this behavior.

Abstract

The growing competition among companies is increasing the necessity for management to focus more on a crucial company resource, such as human resources (HR). Competence is recognized as a critical factor in attaining the desired level of performance within the company, as evidenced by past outcomes. However, there has been no study conducted using the systematic literature review (SLR) method to summarize the result in the form of intervention proposed to assist employees. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the trend in competencies required by HR department in a profitable company using SLR, specifically the scoping review method. The result shows that there is a broad overview of the required competencies when managing HR. In this context, competencies related to green human resources (GHR), organizational development (OD), and technology-based development are the most discussed topics.

Abstract

A mother who works while pursuing PhD faces significant challenge achieving work-life balance due to academic demands, work pressure, and maternal responsibilities. The absence of social support and effective time management strategies can lead to burnout, stress, and a decline in well-being. This research aims to explore the dynamics of work-life balance faced by mothers studying PhDs, focusing on the influence of their social roles on individual well-being. Using a qualitative approach, this research adopts in-depth interview methods to four participants who chosen by a purposive sampling and interpretative phenomenological analysis to explore mothers studying doctoral studies, realizing their dual roles as mothers, students, researchers, and colleagues. The research result show that perceptions of multiple roles and work-life balance are subjective and influenced by individual context. These findings provide new insight into how dual roles affect the well-being of mothers who are also PhD students and present the basis for developing more effective strategies for managing work-life balance among graduate students.
