Abstract

Provinsi Sulawesi Tenggara dengan potensi cadangan Nikel sebesar 97,4 miliar ton, menjadikan Nikel sebagai komoditas utama pertambangannya. Potensi yang besar ini menjadi penyebab tingginya aktifitas eksploitasi tambang nikel di Sulawesi Tenggara, khususnya di Kecamatan Molawe Kabupaten Konawe Utara. Sistem penambangan terbuka yang masih marak digunakan, menyebabkan material padat yang membawa unsur logam berat dari daratan masuk ke perairan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kadar logam berat nikel pada air di Perairan Kecamatan Molawe. Pengambilan data dilakukan pada Bulan Maret 2020 di Desa Tapuemea dan Desa Tapunggaya, Kecamatan Molawe. Sampel air dianalisis di UPTD Laboratorium Dinas Lingkungan Hidup Provinsi Sulawesi Tenggara menggunakan metode Spektrofotometri Serapan Atom (SSA). Hasil yang diperoleh kadar nikel pada air di perairan Kecamatan Molawe berkisar antara 0,003 hingga 0,017 mg/l, dan hasil tersebut masih dibawah ambang batas baku mutu KMNLH No. 51 Tahun 2004.Kata kunci: Nikel, Air, Molawe.

Abstract

The increased use of motorcycles for transportation has heightened environmental challenges related to their washing, particularly the discharge of untreated wastewater containing heavy metals, such as copper (Cu) and lead (Pb), into drainage systems. This study explored the effectiveness of zeolite-embedded sheets (ZESs) in the removal of these pollutants from motorcycle washing wastewater. ZESs were prepared through treatment of nonwoven sheets with Linder Type A (LTA Zeolite) powder and heat treatment, washing, and drying. Characterization was performed via scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Over a 60 min adsorption period, the ZES achieved removal efficiencies of 40% for Cu after 30 min and 70% for Pb after 60 min. The results confirm that ZESs are a promising adsorbent for heavy-metal remediation and particularly effective for lead removal in motorcycle washing wastewater.

Abstract

Besarnya potensi Nikel di Sulawesi Tenggara berefek pada tingginya aktifitas eksploitasi tambang nikel di wilayah ini, khususnya di Desa Tapuemea dan Tapunggaya, Kecamatan Molawe Kabupaten Konawe Utara. Metode penambangan terbuka (Opet-pit mining) yang digunakan di wilayah ini, menyebabkan masuknya material padat yang membawa unsur logam berat dari daratan ke perairan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui konsentrasi, sebaran dan tingkat kontaminasi logam berat nikel dalam sedimen di Perairan Desa Tapuemea dan Tapunggaya. Pengambilan data dilakukan pada Bulan Maret 2020 di pesisir Desa Tapuemea dan Desa Tapunggaya, Kecamatan Molawe. Sampel sedimen dianalisis menggunakan metode Spektrofotometri Serapan Atom (SSA). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi logam berat nikel dalam sedimen berkisar antara 3,922 hingga 34,08 mgkg-1, dan hasil tersebut dikategorikan cukup tercemar menurut US EPA-2004. Konsentrasi Ni tertinggi berada di dekat area pertambangan dan jetty aktif untuk kegiatan bongkar muat material tambang, dan kemudian konsentrasinya menurun secara linear ke arah timur hingga mencapai konsentrasi terendah di muara sungai. Hasil penilaian tingkat pencemaran indeks geoakumulasi (Igeo) dan faktor kontaminasi (CF) menunjukkan bahwa sampel sedimen berada dalam kisaran tercemar sedang dan tercemar sedang hingga berat.

Abstract

The exploitation of small islands (area less than 2000 km²) for mining activities can negatively impact vegetation conditions, as observed on Manuran Island in West Papua Province. This study aimed to assess the environmental impact of mining on Manuran Island by analyzing spatial and temporal changes in vegetation indices using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) method to classify land cover using Landsat 7 ETM satellite imagery and Landsat 8 OLI imagery. The NDVI classification grouped four land cover types: non-vegetation, open soil, sparse vegetation, and moderate vegetation. The analysis revealed a significant increase in non-vegetation land cover from 2002 to 2015, indicating a direct impact from mining activities. However, between 2015 and 2025, the area classified as non-vegetation tended to decrease gradually. Conversely, open soil and sparse vegetation experienced a notable decline from 2002 to 2015, followed by a minor decrease in the subsequent period. In contrast, moderate vegetation steadily increased from 2002 to 2025, suggesting a recovery process in the vegetation. To accelerate the environmental and vegetation recovery process, several revegetation strategies, including reclamation, selection of native and pioneer species, and soil improvement techniques, are recommended. The findings of this study suggest that the reduction in mining activity intensity on Manuran Island has contributed positively to ecosystem recovery and that direct interventions are needed to accelerate environmental recovery.
