Abstract

This study aims to analyze the revitalization of the ijtihad tradition in Islamic education as a progressive paradigm of thinking in the modern era. Using a systematic literature review approach of SINTA-indexed journals (2019–2024) and classical Islamic thought, the research found that ijtihad plays a fundamental role in developing rationality, creativity, and moral awareness among students. The revitalization of ijtihad in Islamic education includes curriculum renewal based on maqashid al-shariah, reflective and contextual learning models, and strengthening the teacher’s role as a mujtahid tarbawi. Findings reveal that Islamic education grounded in ijtihad values fosters ulul albab learners who are critical, ethical, and adaptable to global changes. Thus, ijtihad is not merely a legal instrument but also a pedagogical methodology to integrate faith, knowledge, and action in modern learning.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the management of Arabic curriculum planning in Indonesian higher education, focusing on the effectiveness of planning in addressing challenges in teaching and learning Arabic. Utilizing a qualitative approach and library research methods, the study analyzes literature related to curriculum management and its implementation at three higher education institutions. The findings reveal that the curriculum planning process involves stages of needs analysis, goal formulation, content development, teaching strategies, and evaluation, although the depth and approach vary between institutions. The study identifies that while the integration of technology into the curriculum has begun, the level of implementation differs. Multicultural aspects and labor market orientation are also focal points, with results showing that while some institutions have integrated modules for business and diplomatic Arabic, multicultural aspects remain limited. These findings underscore the need for a more holistic curriculum planning approach that is responsive to digital advancements and sensitive to cultural diversity and labor market needs. The study recommends developing a comprehensive curriculum management model to enhance the relevance and effectiveness of Arabic language learning in Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study employs a linguistic-educational approach to analyze the dynamics of Arabic synonyms in the context of foreign language learning. It primarily aims to examine learners’ patterns in using synonyms, identify both linguistic and pedagogical challenges in teaching them, and formulate more effective instructional strategies. Methodology: A descriptive qualitative design with a case study method was applied to students from Madrasah Aliyah Alkhairaat and the Arabic Language Education Program at IAIN Ternate. Data were gathered through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and document analysis related to vocabulary learning. Main Findings: The findings reveal that learners tend to use synonyms uniformly, with limited attention to semantic nuance and contextual accuracy. Major challenges include the absence of contextual teaching strategies and learners’ low semantic awareness. Current textbooks and teaching methods remain structural and fail to engage pragmatic dimensions. The study proposes the use of contextual, collocational, and semantic-mapping approaches to improve synonym teaching. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study contributes to the development of more communicative and contextually grounded strategies for teaching Arabic vocabulary, especially in the area of synonym acquisition, by bridging linguistic insights with practical pedagogical applications.
