Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation and impact of the Panca Jiwa (Five Souls) values in shaping the character of students at Ihyaul Qur’an Nururrahman Islamic Boarding School, Malang Regency. Using a qualitative method with participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation techniques, the research reveals that the values of sincerity (ikhlas), simplicity, independence, Islamic brotherhood (ukhuwah Islamiyah), and freedom of thought are integrally internalized into students’ daily activities, the educational curriculum, and social interactions within the pesantren. The findings show that sincerity and simplicity are nurtured through the habituation of daily worship; independence is reflected in self-management and personal responsibility; Islamic brotherhood develops through collective social activities; while freedom of thought is fostered through discussion methods and peer tutoring. The impact of these values is evident in the students’ increased discipline, sense of responsibility, social empathy, and spiritual growth. The integration of technology in the learning process also supports character development in a contemporary context. This study reinforces the theory of character education based on a socio-religious environment and demonstrates that the Panca Jiwa values are not merely normative doctrines, but are practiced as a way of life that holistically shapes students' personalities.

Abstract

Pesantren-based community empowerment is an important strategy in facing the challenges of structural poverty and unemployment in the local environment. This study aims to identify the community business empowerment strategy implemented by Kiai Abdullah Syam and evaluate the results of its implementation in the context of economic and social strengthening of the community around the pesantren. The method used is descriptive qualitative with observation techniques, in-depth interviews, and documentation in the pesantren assisted by Kiai Abdullah Syam. Data collection instruments were developed triangulatively to ensure the validity of the findings. The main results show an improvement in the community's quality of life through the establishment of productive economic institutions, strengthening social capital, increasing family income, and integrating religious values in the work ethic. This research is useful in community development, Islamic economics, and pesantren education, and it is relevant for interdisciplinary studies on education management and development sociology. The novelty of this study lies in combining modern marketing strategies with spiritual approaches and pesantren values that have not been widely studied in the empowerment literature. This research contributes to expanding community-based empowerment models that are contextualized and can be replicated in similar communities. In conclusion, pesantren-based empowerment strategies have proven effective in building economic independence and strengthening community social cohesion sustainably

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji pemanfaatan media sosial sebagai media pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan minat dan prestasi belajar Bahasa Arab siswa dari pesantren. Penelitian dilatarbelakangi rendahnya capaian belajar Bahasa Arab di MA Roudlotul Ulum Pagak, sementara intensitas penggunaan media sosial di kalangan siswa generasi Z tinggi. Tujuan penelitian adalah menganalisis pengaruh penerapan media sosial terhadap hasil belajar Bahasa Arab pada materi Asy-Syabab di kelas XII, sekaligus mengobservasi minat mereka. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain pra-eksperimental one-group pretest–posttest. Subjek penelitian berjumlah 20 siswa (saturated sampling). Data dikumpulkan melalui tes pretest–posttest, observasi, dan wawancara, dan dianalisis dengan uji validitas, reliabilitas, uji prasyarat, serta regresi linier berbantuan SPSS. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan capaian belajar yang nyata setelah intervensi pembelajaran berbasis media sosial, rata-rata pretest 52,08 meningkat menjadi 83 pada posttest. Instrumen tes valid dan reliabel. Analisis regresi menunjukkan hubungan kuat antara penerapan media sosial dan peningkatan hasil belajar (R=0,805) dengan koefisien determinasi R²=0,648 (Sig.=0,000). Observasi dan wawancara menguatkan temuan kuantitatif, di mana siswa lebih antusias, lebih aktif berdiskusi, dan lebih percaya diri mempraktikkan keterampilan berbahasa. Dengan demikian, media sosial berpotensi menjadi media pembelajaran efektif untuk meningkatkan minat dan prestasi belajar Bahasa Arab, sepanjang dirancang terarah dengan meminimalkan distraksi.
