Abstract

This study examines the role of Islamic tertiary institutions in strengthening the halal ecosystem in Indonesia through the establishment and operation of Halal Centers. These centers, acting as Halal Inspection Agencies (LPHs), are expected to significantly impact halalization efforts by integrating scientific knowledge with Islamic values, ultimately serving as hubs for halal studies. Through qualitative research on Halal Centers at five State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN), this study analyzes the individual contributions of each institution to generalize their collective role. The findings reveal that these institutions make significant contributions to the advancement of halal potential in Indonesia through three key roles: (a) developing human resources through the establishment and operationalization of Halal Centers; (b) increasing access to halal certification by functioning as LPHs, thereby incentivizing wider adoption of halal standards among businesses; and (c) promoting halal product research and business incubation, particularly for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). These universities, leveraging their infrastructure, human resources, and expertise, are positioned to pioneer innovation and research within the halal sector. Furthermore, practical initiatives undertaken by these institutions include disseminating information on halal certification to MSME stakeholders and assisting with Halal Product Process (PPH) implementation.

Abstract

This article analyzes the theological urgency of preserving marine ecosystems through mangrove forest conservation in a study of the social construction of Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah Kyai in Ujungpangkah District, Gresik. Social construction theory plays an important role in shaping society's views on the need to protect the marine environment, which is increasingly threatened by the pace of industrialization. Using the social construction theory framework by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann, this research analyzes how Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah Kyai construct a theology of marine ecosystem conservation and connect it with mangrove forest conservation. Data was collected through interviews and content analysis of lectures and religious literature through a qualitative approach. The research results reveal that Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah Kyai have formed a social construction that prioritizes theological values in the context of environmental conservation, especially marine ecosystems through mangrove forest conservation. This construction provides a spiritual and moral foundation for society in the face of ecological change and rapid industrialization. This research provides new insight into the potential role of religion in environmental conservation and provides an in-depth view of the urgency of mangrove forest conservation from the perspective of the social construction of Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah Kyai.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation and impact of the Panca Jiwa (Five Souls) values in shaping the character of students at Ihyaul Qur’an Nururrahman Islamic Boarding School, Malang Regency. Using a qualitative method with participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation techniques, the research reveals that the values of sincerity (ikhlas), simplicity, independence, Islamic brotherhood (ukhuwah Islamiyah), and freedom of thought are integrally internalized into students’ daily activities, the educational curriculum, and social interactions within the pesantren. The findings show that sincerity and simplicity are nurtured through the habituation of daily worship; independence is reflected in self-management and personal responsibility; Islamic brotherhood develops through collective social activities; while freedom of thought is fostered through discussion methods and peer tutoring. The impact of these values is evident in the students’ increased discipline, sense of responsibility, social empathy, and spiritual growth. The integration of technology in the learning process also supports character development in a contemporary context. This study reinforces the theory of character education based on a socio-religious environment and demonstrates that the Panca Jiwa values are not merely normative doctrines, but are practiced as a way of life that holistically shapes students' personalities.

Abstract

In the era of digital transformation, education increasingly demands innovative pedagogical approaches that not only enhance language proficiency but also cultivate students’ critical thinking skills. This study explores how Kahoot gamification supports the development of critical thinking in Arabic listening comprehension. The research employed a qualitative approach with a single instrumental case study design to examine the integration of Kahoot-based learning activities and their cognitive outcomes. Data were collected through participant observation, documentation, and interviews involving 39 undergraduate students from the Faculty of Sharia, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, class of 2024. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman to identify indicators of critical thinking based on Facione’s six dimensions: interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, explanation, and self-regulation. The findings revealed that Kahoot gamification was implemented through four learning activities: song playback, simple dialogue, short film, and short story. Each activity stimulated distinct aspects of critical thinking, with song and short film activities generating the most active responses. The study suggests that Kahoot gamification may serve as an effective pedagogical tool to foster engagement and higher-order thinking in Arabic listening instruction, particularly for beginner-level learners.
