Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the learners’ target needs and learning needs for English learning material in the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang. This study used qualitative and quantitative research method through questionnaire and interview. The subjects of this study were 49 Economics and Business faculty students who have taken English subject in their previous semester, three lecturers of English, and three alumni users.  The questionnaire was given to the students and the interview was given to the lecturers of English, and alumni users. The result of this study found that the students need the materials that can help them to understand spoken work-related instruction, conduct job interviews, write proposals (projects, plans, etc.), write a job application letter and personal data, do business presentations, read business letters, understand written work-related instructions, negotiate, read work-related literature, read contract/agreement documents, read email, express opinions at business meetings, write business email, write business letters, write contract/agreement documents, write report documents (meetings/sales/finance, etc.), serve customers orally, and to do business conversations through the phone. Furthermore, it could be highlighted from the result of the collecting data that those objectives of the study should be achieved through listening, reading, writing, and speaking activities.

Abstract

This study was aimed at determining whether or not there was a significant correlation between learning style and vocabulary mastery of the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 11 Palembang. This research employed correlational design and 34 students used as the sample of this study. To collect the data, the researchers used tests and questionnaires. To analyze the data, Pearson product moment correlation was applied. The results based on correlation coefficient showed that there was no correlation because the correlation coefficient (r-obtained) of -0.224 was lower than (r-table) 0.334. Yet, the results based on the interpretations of the correlation value showed that there was low correlation because r-obtained was -0.224 within the correlation value of 0.200-0.400. In conclusion, there is correlation between learning styles and vocabulary mastery of the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 11 Palembang

Abstract

The problem of this research was whether crossword puzzle games effectively increase seventh-grade students' vocabulary mastery at MTs Al-Hidayah of Muara Telang. This research aimed to determine whether crossword puzzle games effectively increase seventh-grade students' vocabulary mastery at MTs Al-Hidayah of Muara Telang. This research used a pre-experimental design. The population of this research was the seventh-grade students of MTs Al-Hidayah of Muara Telang, with a total of 67 students. The sample of this research was 33 students selected through total sampling. The data obtained were analyzed by using a matched t-test for a manual calculation. The result of the t-test calculating in the pre-test and post-test class paired sample t-test showed that the mean was 26,96970, the standard deviation was 12,74383, the standard error mean was 2,21842, the lower was -31,48846, the upper was 22,45093 of t obtained was 12,157. On the other hand, Crossword Puzzle Games effectively increased vocabulary mastery among seventh-grade students at MTs Al-Hidaya of Muara Telang.
