Abstract

Background: Hypercholesterolemia is a state of total blood cholesterol levels transported by LDL exceeding normal limits. As a result, it can clog blood vessels, and this condition is a risk factor for CHD. Alternative medicine includes flavonoids in Averrhoa bilimbi (belimbing wuluh) known to reduce cholesterol and LDL levels, and curcumin in turmeric known to reduce fat absorption and increase fat excretion. Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze the combined effect of bilimbi fruit and turmeric extracts on LDL levels. Methods: This experimental research used post-test only with a control group design involving male Wistar rats divided into 6 (six) random groups. Group KN (standard feed, aquadest for 28 days), K- (high-fat feed for 14 days, followed by standard feed and aquadest), K+ (high-fat feed for 14 days, followed by standard feed, aquadest, and simvastatin 0.18mg/200 g BW/day), P1 (high-fat feed for 14 days, followed by standard feed, aquadest and extracts of bilimbi fruit and turmeric extract at a dose of 240: 270 mg/200 g BW/day), P2 (high-fat diet for 14 days, followed by standard feed, distilled water and bilimbi fruit and turmeric extract at a dose of 360: 175 mg/200 g BW/day), P3 (high-fat diet for 14 days, followed by standard feed, distilled water and extracts of bilimbi fruit and turmeric at a dose of 120: 405 mg/200 g BW/day). The determination of LDL levels was done through a direct method using a spectrophotometer with a wavelength of 550 nm. Results: The mean LDL levels were KN (53.60 ± 10.69) mg/dL, K- (193.40 ± 16.86) mg/dL, K+ (100.20 ± 42.48) mg/dL, P1 (118.00 ± 64.71) mg/dL, P2 (104.00 ± 45.28) mg/dL, P3 (78.00 ± 4.69) mg/dL. The data received was analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test. Then, the results obtained differences in LDL levels between various groups (p<0.001). Subsequently, it was continued with the Mann-Whitney test on KN compared to K-, K+, P1, P2, P3 indicating p=0.009. As a result, it was found a significant difference in LDL levels between KN and K-, K+, P1, P2, and P3. Conclusions: This research concludes that providing a mixture of bilimbi fruit extract and turmeric extract can reduce LDL levels.

Abstract

Jumlah perokok laki-laki di Demak, usia 15-24 tahun sebesar 18,8%, 25-34 tahun sejumlah 33,3%, dan 35-44 tahun sebesar 26,77%. Perilaku merokok, tidak terjadi secara tiba-tiba, akan tetapi dimulai sejak anak-anak atau remaja. Berdasarkan observasi dan survei awal yang dilakukan peneliti di SDIT Permata Bunda dan lingkungan sekitar Desa Batursari Mranggen Demak, ada sebagian alumni yang berada di lingkungan keluarga atau teman perokok, mulai tertarik merokok. Perilaku merokok sering terjadi pada siswa laki laki dan terjadi saat berada di luar lingkungan sekolah. Oleh karena itu perlu dilakukan edukasi tentang bahaya merokok kepada siswa. Tujuan pengkajian ini adalah untuk mengetahui tingkat pengetahuan tentang bahaya merokok dan pengaruh penyuluhan bahaya merokok pada siswa SDIT Permata Bunda kelas V dan VI. Penyuluhan dilakukan menggunakan presentasi diselingi video animasi bahaya merokok. Penelitian ini bersifat analitik kuantitatif dengan desain cross sectional, menggunakan alat ukur kuesioner pre-post penyuluhan. Sampel diambil dengan metode total sampling berjumlah 146 responden. Analisis data menggunakan Mc Nemar Didapatkan perbedaan bermakna antara tingkat pengetahuan bahaya merokok di antara nilai pretest dan postest (p<0,05). Pentingnya edukasi merokok, untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan siswa tentang bahaya merokok.In Demak, the prevalence of male smokers varies among age groups, with rates of 18.8% for ages 15-24, 33.3% for ages 25-34, and 26.77% for ages 35-44. According to the 2021 GATS survey, two out of three adult men in the region are smokers. The adoption of smoking behavior typically initiates during childhood or adolescence. Initial observations and surveys conducted by researchers at Permata Bunda Elementary School, within the vicinity of Batursari Mranggen Demak Village, reveal that some alumni are smokers, and their family or friends are showing an increasing interest in smoking. Smoking tendencies are prevalent among male students, particularly outside the school environment, emphasizing the need for comprehensive education on the hazards of smoking.  This study aims to assess the level of knowledge regarding the dangers of smoking and the impact of counseling on SDIT Permata Bunda students in grades V and VI. Counseling sessions utilized presentations combined with animated videos addressing the dangers of smoking. The research follows a quantitative analytical approach with a cross-sectional design, employing a pre-post counseling questionnaire for measurement. A total sampling method was used, encompassing 146 respondents. Data analysis was conducted using the Mc Nemar statistical test. Significant differences were observed between the pretest and posttest scores concerning the knowledge of the dangers of smoking (p<0.05). The study underscores the significance of smoking education in augmenting students' knowledge about the hazards associated with smoking. This emphasizes the need for ongoing efforts to educate students and mitigate the allure of smoking, especially among younger age groups.

Abstract

Kulit membutuhkan antioksidan untuk menangkal radikal bebas yang di antaranya berasal dari polusi udara dan paparan sinar ultraviolet. Rumput laut Eucheuma cottonii dan Ulva lactuca dikenal memiliki kandungan antioksidan yang cukup tinggi. Produk perawatan kulit salah satunya serum dapat dijadikan alternatif dalam mengurangi permasalahan pada kulit melalui penambahan bahan aktif dari rumput laut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan formulasi terbaik dan pengaruh penambahan E. cottonii dan U. lactuca terhadap karakteristik produk serum wajah melalui parameter uji hedonik, pH, kelembapan, homogenitas, viskositas, dan aktivitas antioksidan. Perlakuan dalam penelitian dibagi menjadi empat, yaitu serum tanpa penambahan filtrat rumput laut (F0), serum dengan penambahan filtrat E. cottonii (F1), serum dengan penambahan filtrat U. lactuca (F2), dan serum kombinasi filtrat E. cottonii dan U. lactuca (F3). Analisis data menggunakan uji Kruskal Wallis dan one way ANOVA. Penambahan filtrat E. cottonii dan U. lactuca dapat memengaruhi nilai antioksidan, hedonik, homogenitas, pH, viskositas, dan kelembapan pada produk serum. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa formula serum terbaik diperoleh pada perlakuan penambahan filtrat E. cottonii (F1) dengan aktivitas antioksidan (IC50) sebesar 299,29 µg/mL, kelembapan 58,42%, nilai pH 6,25, viskositas 276,71 cP dan paling disukai oleh panelis berdasarkan parameter ketampakan, warna, aroma, tekstur, dan homogenitas.
