Abstract

Background: Probiotics are potential as a therapy for allergy sufferers, which can increase the ratio IFNã, IL4. However, the effects of probiotics on the quality of life of patients with allergic rhinitis have not been developed yet. This study aimed to determine the effect of a combination of probiotics on the quality of life of patients with allergic rhinitis.Design and Methods: This study used a randomized design with post test control group design. The populations in this study were men and women aged 18-25 years who suffer from allergic rhinitis with moderate to severe according to the WHO criteria. This study uses two groups: the group treated by administration of a combination of probiotics and the control group were given a placebo. Quality of life was assessed by checklist scores and levels of IgE. Data were analyzed using the Mann Whitney U test with 95% confidence intervals. Results: The results of statistical analysis showed no significant difference between the quality of life of allergic rhinitis sufferers control and treatment groups (p> 0.05). However, there are significant differences between the mean levels of IgE allergy sufferers rhintis control and treatment groups (p <0.05).Conclusion: Probiotic treatment did not affect the quality of life of patients with allergic hinitis but a reduction in the levels of IgE (Sains Medika, 4(2):157-164).

Abstract

Background: Hypercholesterolemia is a state of total blood cholesterol levels transported by LDL exceeding normal limits. As a result, it can clog blood vessels, and this condition is a risk factor for CHD. Alternative medicine includes flavonoids in Averrhoa bilimbi (belimbing wuluh) known to reduce cholesterol and LDL levels, and curcumin in turmeric known to reduce fat absorption and increase fat excretion. Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze the combined effect of bilimbi fruit and turmeric extracts on LDL levels. Methods: This experimental research used post-test only with a control group design involving male Wistar rats divided into 6 (six) random groups. Group KN (standard feed, aquadest for 28 days), K- (high-fat feed for 14 days, followed by standard feed and aquadest), K+ (high-fat feed for 14 days, followed by standard feed, aquadest, and simvastatin 0.18mg/200 g BW/day), P1 (high-fat feed for 14 days, followed by standard feed, aquadest and extracts of bilimbi fruit and turmeric extract at a dose of 240: 270 mg/200 g BW/day), P2 (high-fat diet for 14 days, followed by standard feed, distilled water and bilimbi fruit and turmeric extract at a dose of 360: 175 mg/200 g BW/day), P3 (high-fat diet for 14 days, followed by standard feed, distilled water and extracts of bilimbi fruit and turmeric at a dose of 120: 405 mg/200 g BW/day). The determination of LDL levels was done through a direct method using a spectrophotometer with a wavelength of 550 nm. Results: The mean LDL levels were KN (53.60 ± 10.69) mg/dL, K- (193.40 ± 16.86) mg/dL, K+ (100.20 ± 42.48) mg/dL, P1 (118.00 ± 64.71) mg/dL, P2 (104.00 ± 45.28) mg/dL, P3 (78.00 ± 4.69) mg/dL. The data received was analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test. Then, the results obtained differences in LDL levels between various groups (p<0.001). Subsequently, it was continued with the Mann-Whitney test on KN compared to K-, K+, P1, P2, P3 indicating p=0.009. As a result, it was found a significant difference in LDL levels between KN and K-, K+, P1, P2, and P3. Conclusions: This research concludes that providing a mixture of bilimbi fruit extract and turmeric extract can reduce LDL levels.

Abstract

Modul score are scores obtained from theoretical exams in the form of MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) which have a large portion in determining graduation. The achievement of module scores can be influenced by many factors, one of which is the level of anxiety. Anxiety during exams is known to inhibit cognitive function which affects performance during exams so that it can affect the results obtained. This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of anxiety and the value of the mental health problem module in FK Unissula students class of 2021. This study is an observational study with a cross-sectional research design conducted at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Islam Sultan Agung. Respondents were asked to complete the Nist and Diehl Test Anxiety Questionnaire questionnaire consisting of 10 questions. The data obtained were analyzed with the spearman correlative test to determine the meaning and strength of the relationship between anxiety levels and module scores. The results of the study from 140 samples found that most students who were not anxious got good grades with a percentage of 63.1%, students who were mildly anxious the majority got enough scores with a percentage of 36.2% and students who were severe anxious about the majority got less scores with a percentage of 56%. The results of the bivariate analysis test using the spearman correlative test obtained a p value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The correlation coefficient between anxiety levels and module scores was 0.391. The level of anxiety significantly affects the value of the mental health problem module in FK UNISSULA students batch 2021 with weak correlation strength.
