Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of ethno-science approach through the making of bamboo lemang in improving students' understanding of the concept of thermal energy material at SMPN 17 South Bengkulu. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experiment method and a Non-Equivalent Control Group design. Creswell states that a pseudo-experiment is an experimental situation in which the researcher assigns, but not randomly, participants to a group because the researcher cannot artificially create a group for the experiment. Data were collected through concept comprehension tests and observations. The results of the study showed a significant improvement in the understanding of students who used the ethno-science approach compared to conventional methods. Based on the results of the normality test with Shapiro-Wilk, it showed a significance value of 0.129 (experimental class) and 0.067 (control class), which means that the data is normally distributed. Based on the results of the homogeneity test with Levene's Test resulting in a significance value of 0.611, indicating that the data variance between the experimental and control groups was homogeneous. Based on the results of the hypothesis test using Independent Samples t-Test, it showed a t-value (-5.42) with p = 0.000, which means that there was a significant difference between the two groups. The average understanding of students in the experimental class was 83.07, while in the control class it was 66.13.These results show that the ethno-science approach through the making of bamboo lemang contributes positively to improving the understanding of the concept of thermal energy. Keywords: Ethno-science, Bamboo Lemang and Heat energy

Abstract

This study aims to explore the development of diorama media to improve student learning outcomes on the water cycle topic at SMP Negeri 4 Kota Bengkulu. The diorama media is used as an interactive and visual learning tool to enhance students' understanding of the water cycle concept. The research method applied is Research and Development (R&D). The study sample comprises two randomly selected classes, an experimental class using diorama media and a control class using conventional methods. Data collection instruments include a pre-test and post-test to assess learning outcomes before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using a t-test to compare learning outcomes between the two groups. The analysis results showed that media expert validation I reached 90.57%, media expert II 93.7%, material expert I 92.5%, and material expert II 89.6%. Test results indicated a significant difference in learning outcomes between the experimental and control classes, with students who learned through diorama media showing higher learning gains compared to those who used conventional methods. Diorama media often captures students' attention due to its visually engaging presentation and ability to represent abstract concepts visually. Therefore, the use of diorama media can enhance the effectiveness of learning in the water cycle topic.

Abstract

The low learning outcomes of third-grade students at SDN 2 Rambang in Science learning. Therefore, innovation through game-based learning is needed. This research aims to improve the learning outcomes of third-grade students at SDN 2 Rambang on the topic of the life cycle of living things in Science learning using the game-based learning method. The subjects of this research were 19 third-grade students at SDN 2 Rambang. The method used in this research was Classroom Action Research which was carried out in 2 cycles. The instruments used included observation sheets, learning outcome tests, and documentation. The results of the research showed that the application of the game-based learning method could improve student learning outcomes. In the pre-cycle, only 6 out of 19 students (31.6%) achieved scores above the Minimum Completeness Criteria. In the first cycle, this increased to 12 students (63.2%), and in the second cycle, it further increased to 19 students 100%). In addition to the increase in learning outcome scores, students also showed increased motivation, activeness, and understanding of the material. Thus, it can be concluded that the game-based learning method is effective in improving student learning outcomes in Science learning, especially on the topic of the life cycle of living things.
