Abstract

COVID-19 vaccination aims to reduce COVID-19 transmission and reduce morbidity and mortality and achieve herd immunity in the community. This study is expected to determine the factors associated with vaccination acceptance in students at Cenderawasih University based on the theory of Health Belief Model. This study is analytic quantitative with cross sectional study design, using proportionated stratified random sampling technique, as many as 100 respondents in three faculties, namely FKM (26 people), FISIP (41 people), and FT (33 people). A questionnaire was used as the measuring instrument. The chi-square test was used to analyse this study’s univariate and bivariate data with 95% confidence level. The result of this study showed the majority of respondents 89 people had received COVID-19 vaccination, with high perceived susceptibility (59%), high perceived severity (64%), high health motivation (64%), perceived benefits (51%), and low perceived barriers (54%). There was a relationship between perceived benefits (p = 0,047; PR = 1,177; 95% = CI 1,019-1,359) and perceived barriers (p = 0,027; PR = 0,835; 95% = CI 0,718-0,972) with COVID-19 acceptance in students at Cenderawasih University. There was no relationship between perceived susceptibility (p = 0,756; PR = 1,023; 95% = CI 0,887-1,180), perceived severity (p = 0,196; PR = 1,106; 95% CI = 0,940-1,302) and health motivation (p = 0,196; PR = 1,106; 95% CI = 0,940-1,302) with the COVID-19 acceptance in student at Cenderawasih University. Factors influencing acceptance of COVID-19 vaccination for Cenderawasih University students are perceived benefits anf perceived barriers.  Keywords: COVID-19, Vaccination, Health Belief Model, Students

Abstract

Leprosy is caused by the bacterium mycobacterium leprae, which can cause damage to the skin, nerves, eyes and can even cause disability to the sufferer. The purpose of this study was to determine the risk factors for leprosy in the working area of the Elly Uyo Health Center, Jayapura City. This type of research is analytic observational with a case control. The case group is leprosy sufferers and the control group is close neighbors of lepers who do not have leprosy. The sampling technique was simple random sampling for the case group and purposive sampling for the control group. The number of samples is 72 respondents with a ratio of 1:1. The measuring instrument used was a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods using the chi-square with a 95% confidence level followed by multivariate tests using logistic regression. The results of the chi-square showed that there was a risk between clothing cleanliness (p=0.047; OR=4.000) the habit of borrowing towels (p= 0.31; OR=3,250), and history of contact (p=0,000; OR=18,600) with leprosy. While there is no risk between levels of education (p= 0.107; OR=0.143), economic status (p=0.733; OR=0.625) and bathing habits (p=0.674; OR=0.471) with leprosy. The results of the multivariate analysis showed that the most dominant variable with the incidence of leprosy in the working area of the Elly Uyo Health Center was contact history (p=0.000; OR = 32.511). It is hoped that the community will not have too frequent contact with leprosy sufferers and maintain personal hygiene. Keywords: Leprosy, Elly Uyo Health Center, Risk Factors

Abstract

The elderly are a vulnerable group that often faces nutritional problems and a declining quality of life, especially in remote areas such as Keerom Regency. The lack of balanced nutrition education and inadequate health interventions are the main challenges in improving the well-being of the elderly. This community service activity aims to fill that gap by enhancing the elderly's knowledge about balanced nutrition, assessing their nutritional status, and evaluating their quality of life at Yaturaharja Posyandu, within the work area of Arso Barat Health Center. Nutrition education was provided through a question-and-answer method and interactive games to ensure active participation of the elderly. In addition, nutritional status was assessed using anthropometric measurements, and quality of life was evaluated using the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire, which covers four domains: physical health, psychological well-being, social relationships, and environment. Out of 120 registered elderly, 54 participated in the activity. The results showed that the elderly's knowledge of balanced nutrition remained low, with 70% of participants unable to answer questions correctly. Furthermore, 70% of the elderly had a low Body Mass Index (BMI), indicating malnutrition problems. While the physical health and environmental aspects were relatively good, social relationships remained a challenge for the majority of the elderly. This activity highlights the importance of sustainable interventions, with practical recommendations such as continued nutrition education, additional nutritional interventions, and enhancing social activities for the elderly. Cross-sector collaboration is expected to strengthen this program and improve the quality of life for the elderly in the future.

Abstract

Yoboi Village, Sentani, Papua, has the potential for local food resources, including sago caterpillars and tilapia. These commodities are important sources of animal protein and play a strategic role in supporting food security among Papuan communities; however, their utilization has been limited to household consumption, often using simple techniques without adherence to hygiene standards, packaging, or labeling. This community service program aimed to improve community capacity in hygienic processing, vacuum packaging, labeling, and marketing of smoked sago caterpillars and tilapia products. The method applied was a community-based participatory action research approach, covering needs assessment, module development, structured training, hands-on practice, and rapid reflection. A total of 60 participants were involved, representing fishermen, sago caterpillar collectors, homemakers, and youth. Evaluation was conducted through observation, station checklists, and pre- and post–knowledge tests. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge, with the proportion of participants having high knowledge rising from 11,6% to 71,7% after the training (p = 0,023). Sample products of smoked sago caterpillars and smoked tilapia were successfully produced with vacuum packaging and minimal labeling, showing more consistent quality and longer shelf life. Participants also agreed to establish a community group/MSME and initiate early marketing strategies, both online and offline. This program, as a participatory training, strengthened both the community’s technical skills and institutional readiness.
