Abstract

Purpose –  This study explores the effectiveness of a movement-based approach to Qur'anic memorization among preschool children at TK (Preschool) Al-Fatihah School. Recognizing the critical role of early childhood in developing a strong attachment to the Qur'an, this research addresses the need for innovative methods that engage children both cognitively and physically, with the goal of enhancing their memorization and understanding of Qur'anic verses. Methods/Design/Approach – A qualitative case study methodology was employed, focusing on 60 preschool children divided into an experimental group (n=30) and a control group (n=30). Data collection methods included participant observation, in-depth interviews with students, teachers, and parents, and document analysis. Thematic analysis was used to identify patterns in student engagement, memorization performance, and understanding of the Qur'anic verses. Findings – The study found that the movement-based method significantly improved students' engagement and memorization. The experimental group memorized 15% more verses on average compared to the control group and demonstrated better long-term retention and fewer errors. Additionally, this method enhanced students' understanding of the verses, as the movements were designed to reflect the meanings of the words, facilitating deeper cognitive processing. Originality/Value – This research contributes to the literature on Qur'anic education by demonstrating that movement-based memorization not only improves the quantity and accuracy of memorization but also enriches students' conceptual understanding. It underscores the importance of integrating physical activity with cognitive learning in early childhood education, particularly in religious contexts. Practical Implications – The findings suggest that movement-based methods can be effectively integrated into Islamic preschool curricula to enhance Qur'anic memorization and comprehension. This approach fosters a more inclusive and engaging learning environment, catering to various learning styles and promoting sustained interest in Qur'anic studies. Abstract

The rapid growth of digital platforms has significantly transformed how local cultures are presented and perceived within the tourism industry. In particular, the interplay between cultural identity and the commodification of tradition has become a central issue in the branding of local destinations. This study aims to analyze how local cultural identities are constructed, represented, and potentially commodified through digital tourism branding strategies. It also explores how community stakeholders negotiate cultural integrity while responding to global tourism market demands. Using a qualitative case study method, the research combines digital ethnography, semi-structured interviews with local stakeholders (e.g., artisans, tourism officials, youth), and content analysis of social media platforms and official websites. Thematic analysis was applied to synthesize patterns in representation, commodification, and community participation. The findings show that cultural identity in digital branding is often selectively portrayed, emphasizing performative and aesthetic aspects such as traditional dance, crafts, and cuisine. These elements are frequently commodified for market appeal, sometimes detaching them from their original meanings. However, the study also highlights the agency of local actors, especially youth, in reclaiming narrative power through creative content and participatory branding practices. High-engagement platforms like TikTok and Instagram were found to be both empowering and risky for cultural representation. This study concludes that ethical and inclusive digital branding practices are essential for balancing cultural authenticity and economic sustainability in local tourism development.

Abstract

In English as a Foreign Language (EFL) contexts, teacher feedback plays a pivotal role in facilitating students' writing development. However, limited longitudinal research has explored how sustained feedback practices influence student improvement over time. This study aims to investigate the impact of teacher feedback on students' writing performance in EFL classrooms, focusing on the progression of writing skills across an academic year. Employing a longitudinal research design, this study followed 60 EFL students from a secondary school in Indonesia over two semesters. Data were collected through students' writing samples, teacher feedback forms, and semi-structured interviews. A mixed-method approach was used: quantitative data were analyzed using repeated-measures ANOVA to assess changes in writing scores, while qualitative data from interviews were coded thematically to explore students' perceptions of feedback. Findings indicated a statistically significant improvement in students' writing performance over time, particularly in coherence, vocabulary usage, and grammatical accuracy. Students reported that timely, specific, and formative feedback contributed positively to their writing development. Furthermore, teacher feedback that was dialogic in nature (i.e., allowing for student response and reflection) had a more substantial impact compared to solely corrective feedback.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the differences in executive function between bilingual and monolingual children and identify factors that strengthen or weaken these abilities in the context of bilingualism. The research method used is a qualitative approach with phenomenological design, involving 30 early childhood consisting of bilingual and monolingual groups. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with parents and teachers as well as direct observation of children in play and learning environments. The results showed that bilingual children had better abilities in attention, working memory, cognitive flexibility, inhibitory control, and information processing speed than monolingual children. These findings support the theory that bilingualism strengthens executive functions through the activity of managing two languages that requires high focus and adaptability. In conclusion, bilingual education has the potential to enrich children's cognitive development, especially in enhancing executive functions that are crucial for academic and social success. The implications of this study show the importance of integrating a bilingual approach in the early childhood education curriculum to support more optimal cognitive development.
