Abstract

Community service activities are an important activity in the Higher Education Tridarma which must be carried out for independent and professional community empowerment from community powerlessness which is a global problem today. Pelita Mas Palu College of Pharmacy has a family medicinal plant garden in the area of Maku Village, Dolo District, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi. For this reason, as a source of family medicinal plants in the area, so they were chosen for community service activities. This activity aims to provide knowledge to the people of Maku village about making organic masks from the basic ingredients of a combination of rice and rica leaf ingredients which function as antioxidants in regenerating skin cells. The expected outputs from this activity are cultivating an entrepreneurial spirit in the products produced, providing counseling, establishing a family medicinal plant garden, providing free medical check-ups for the people of Maku village and providing free groceries. The method used in this activity was forming hamlet groups according to the order of hamlets in Maku village, delivering material to be delivered, where 30% of participants did not understand organic mask making, delivering material for 1 hour followed by planting TOGA, free health checks and free groceries. The results of the activity show that the people in Maku village are able to understand educational materials for making organic masks with an understanding level of 70%

Abstract

Hypertension is the primary cause of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), as it damages blood vessels in the kidneys. The most commonly used management for hypertension as monotherapy includes Calcium Channel Blockers (CCB) such as Amlodipine and Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (ARB) such as candesartan. Patients with CKD undergoing hemodialysis depend on dialysis machines, which impacts their economic burden. Therefore, a cost analysis review of drugs with the same therapeutic goals is necessary. This was a non-experimental study with a descriptive design. Data were collected through retrospective purposive sampling from January to December 2023 using medical records and payment data for inpatient treatments with hemodialysis that met the inclusion criteria. Direct medical costs included antihypertensive, other medication, service and facility fees, and medical support costs. Of the 100 samples that met the inclusion criteria from January to December 2023, amlodipine was the most commonly used antihypertensive (56%), followed by candesartan (38%). The average direct medical costs were IDR 184.350 for Amlodipine and IDR 561,339 for candesartan. The patient characteristics by gender showed a higher percentage of males (52%) than of females (48%). By age, the majority were in the late adult group (67%), whereas the elderly accounted for (33%). The Amlodipine group achieved more significant cost minimization than the candesartan group. Future studies should examine the potential of amlodipine in reducing the economic burden of limited resources.  Keywords: antihypertensive, CMA, CKD

Abstract

Abstract

Abelmoschus manihot (L.) Medik is one of the traditional medicinal plants from Palu City, Central of Sulawesi with the Malvaceae plant family and commonly is a traditional medicinal plants recognized fot its therapeutic potential, particularly in antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and wound healing applications. This research aims to identify and characterize the chemical compounds present in Abelmoschus manihot (L.) Medik plant from Palu City, Central of Sulawesi using  liquid chromatography high resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS). This research was collected fresh plant, designed using ethanol extraction from Abelmoschus manihot (L.) Medik and analyzed using mass spectroscopy (LC-HRMS) with Processing Software – MZMine Ver. 3.9.0. The results of this study  provide new insights into the chemical composition of Abelmoschus manihot (L.) Medik and confirm its potential as a source of bioactive compounds that could be futher explored for pharmaceutical development, namely that it contains the main compound Quercetin with a mass of 303.04, Gossypetin; Myricetin with a mass of 319.04, Quercetin 3-O-alpha-L-rhamnoside with a mass of 449.10 Isoquercetin; Hyperoside; Hyperin; Hirsutrin with a mass of 465.10, Gossypol with a mass of 519.20 and rutin with a mass of 291.08.

Abstract

Abelmoschus Manihot (L.) Medik, commonly known as Abelmoschus manihot, is a traditional medicinal plant from Palu, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, widely utilized for its potential health benefits. This research aims to evaluate the acute toxicity of ethanol extract from Abelmoschus manihot leaves, focusing on determining the lethal dose (LD50) in rats. The study involved extracts being administered at a range of doses of 500 mg/kg, 1000 mg/ kg, and 2000 mg/Kg of body weight (BB) in a rat population. Rats were observed for 24 hours to look for signs of toxicity and death. The LD50 value, which determines the dose required to cause death in 50% of the test population, is calculated based on the results. This research provides insights into the safety profile of ethanol extract from Abelmoschus manihot leaves and contributes to understanding its potential risks when used in traditional medicine. No significant deaths were observed at lower doses, but higher doses resulted in observable toxic effects, indicating the need for careful dosing in therapeutic applications. The results show that although Abelmoschus Manihot did not exhibit acute toxic effects on rats at doses of 500 mg/kg, 1000 mg/kg, and 2000 mg/kg body weight. No significant deaths or severe toxic symptoms were observed during the 24-hour observation period up to the 14-day observation, and there were no differences in the body weight of the rats during the 14-day observation
