Abstract

The policy in learning has been changed by  the government since the Covid 19 cases decreased significantly in Indonesia. Therefore, the implementation of learning in this current era, especially in university level, is conducted limitedly in face to face learning mode known as Pembelajaran Tatap Muka (PTM) terbatas and online learning mode, named  Pembelajaran Jarak Jauh (PJJ). These mixed modes of learning are acclaimed as hybrid learning. This transition of learning potentially raises various perceptions among the undergraduate students. Hence, this study aims at  investigating the undergraduate students’ perception of hybrid learning system in the pandemic era. The participants of this study were 45 English department undergraduate students at State University of Malang. They were 38 females students and 7 males students from the 2nd, 6th and 8th semesters. This study was carried out through survey research design. Henceforth, the data of this study was gathered by spreading a closed-ended questionnaire via Google Form. The findings revealed that the undergraduate students showed positive perceptions regarding hybrid learning in pedagogical, social, and technical aspects. Notwithstanding, the negative perceptions were found in the technical aspects relating to students’ concentration in deeper learning and students’ difficulties in learning English during hybrid learning. Regardless of the positive and negative perceptions, according to the findings, hybrid learning can be categorized as the effective learning approach as well as the learning solution in this current pandemic era.

Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACTKarang Taruna, as a youth organization, plays a strategic role in enhancing human resource capacity, particularly in preparing young people to face the world of work. One essential skill required is the ability to prepare a professional Curriculum Vitae (CV) as a form of personal branding. However, preliminary observation at Karang Taruna in Dwi Kora Subdistrict indicates that most members are not yet able to create CVs that meet industry standards. This condition is influenced by low digital literacy, limited English proficiency as well as the lack of training related to job application documents. This Community Service Program (PkM) aims to improve the knowledge and skills of youth members of Karang Taruna in Dwi Kora Subdistrict, Medan City, in preparing CVs in both Indonesian and English by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) platforms and digital applications. The program was implemented through structured socialization and training activities, including an introduction to CV concepts, AI technology, hands-on practice using AI-based applications, and CV preparation in two languages. The target partner of this program was Karang Taruna Dwi Kora Subdistrict, consisting of members aged 16–35 years. Out of a total of 35 members, 20 participated actively in the program. Evaluation results based on pre-test and post-test scores showed the improvement in participants’ understanding and skills in preparing AI-based CVs. Nevertheless, some participants still require further assistance, particularly in English usage and the optimal use of AI features. Keywords: Creating Curriculum Vitae (CV); AI Technology; Karang Taruna; English; Bahasa

Abstract

This study examines hedging strategies in a contemporary diplomatic speech delivered by Donald Trump, focusing on how epistemic stance is calibrated in a high-stakes political context. Drawing on Hyland’s (1998, 2005) metadiscourse framework, the study employs qualitative discourse analysis alongside frequency-based identification of hedging devices. The analysis identifies 34 instances of hedging, with lexical judgmental verbs such as I think, and I believe constituting the dominant category (62%), followed by modal auxiliaries including may and might. The findings show that hedging is systematically clustered in discourse segments addressing future negotiations and geopolitical uncertainty, while more assertive constructions are used when referring to past achievements. This patterned alternation suggests a form of controlled epistemic modulation, defined in this study as the deliberate calibration of commitment strength in response to contextual volatility and diplomatic risk. Rather than signaling weakness or indecision, hedging in the analyzed speech functions as a rhetorical resource for balancing authority and negotiability, contributing to the construction of a diplomatic yet assertive leadership persona. The study offers a refined perspective on metadiscourse by highlighting the central role of lexical hedging verbs in political stance management and proposing a nuanced account of epistemic modulation in contemporary diplomacy.
