Abstract

Background: Temulawak (curcuma xanthorrizae roxb) contains many substance such as xanthorrizol, curcumin, essential oil, flavonoid. Essential oil and flavonoid works by damaging the cell wall and protein denaturation can inhibits the growth of the fungi Candida albicans attached to the surface of the heat cured acrylic resin plate. The purpose of this study is to determine the extract Temulawak effect on the growth of Candida albicans at heat cured acrylic resin plate. Method : The Eksperiment is true experimental laboratories with post test only controlled group design. 10x10x2 mm Acrylic resin plate was soaked into Candida albicans suspension for 48 hours at 37o then soaked in curcuma xanthorrizae roxb extract 90%, 80%, 70%, 60%, control group positive (chlorhexidine 0,2%), control negatif (water) for 8 hours at 37o. Result: The result of the experiment showed that control group (-)has the highest value (839,20 x 101 CFU/ml), while the least was 90% ekstract of curcuma xanthorrizae roxb group (23,40 x 101 CFU/ml). After normality and homogenity test was done, One Way Anova test was executed (p = 0,000. means p < 0,05). Conclussion: extract Temulawak can inhibit Candida albicans growth on heat cured acrylic resin.

Abstract

Background: Traumatic ulcers were injuries that occur to the epithelium and basement membrane, due to physical, mechanical, or chemical trauma. The healing process of traumatic ulcers was divided into three main phases, namely inflammatory, proliferation, and maturation phase. TNF-α as a proinflammatory mediator worked 2-3 days which later would be replaced by an anti-inflammatory mediator. This research aimed to determine the impact of bay leaf extract gel, which had a very high anti-inflammatory content, on TNF-α expression in accelerating the ulcers healing process.Method: This research method was an in vivo experimental laboratory research using a post-test only control design. The sample consists of 20 rats divided into four groups, namely, the control group on day 1, control groups on day 3, treatment groups on 1st day, and treatment groups on 3rd day. Rats were made traumatic ulcers on the lower lip mucosa and were given bay leaf extract gel in the morning and evening. The tissue was then made into a histological preparation and given immunohistochemical staining to see TNF-α.Result: The results showed the mean of cells expressing TNF-α in the bay leaf gel extract group on the 1st and 3rd days has P> 0.05. Independent T-test on 1st day dan 3rd group showed a significant difference in TNF-α expression in the control and treatment groups. Conclusion: The conclusion obtained in this study was bay leaf extract gel had a significant effect on the expression of TNF-α in the traumatic ulcers healing process.

The role of parents was very important in maintaining to prevent oral candidiasis. Make a valid and reliabel measured instrument in the form of a questionnaire is needed to be able to measeure the level of parental knowledge of oral candidiasis, until now there is no instrument that measure this focus. The main purpose in this study was to create a valid and realiable instrument which measure the level of parental knowledge of oral candidiadis in infants aged 0-12 months. Method: The study method is descriptive stages were the preparation of dimensions, indicators and statement items, content validity index(CVI), construct validity test with pearson correlation test (rcount>rtable) and reliability test by looking at the cronbach alpha value(0>7). Result: Results showed a valid I-CVI mean value was 0.89, the construct validity test showing the correlation value of each item was greater than 0.361 and the reliability stage showing the Cronbach Alpha value of 0.902 was greater than 0,7. Conclusion: : It was concluded that the contained 28 items of instrument statements on the level of parental knowledge of oral candidiasis in infants aged 0-12 months, valid and reliable, according to the principle that can be used as a measuring tool for further study
