Abstract

Background: Dental caries is still an unresolved problem. One method for the prevention of dental caries is the counselling method. Caderization is a long-term educational process for optimizing the potential of cadres by transferring and instilling specific values so that later it will produce strong cadres. Junior dentists meet the criteria and have been trained to participate in efforts to maintain and improve health for themselves, friends, family and the environment. The purpose of a junior dentist is to become drivers of healthy living at school, at home, and in their environment to help themselves, fellow students and others live healthy lives. Method: Making counselling media consisting of posters for counselling, models of teeth and toothbrushes, counselling videos about dental health delivered by junior dentists and conducting questionnaires for students' understanding levels. Data analyzed using descriptive statisticsResult: The results of the research in filling out the questionnaire after the students saw and listened to the junior dentist educational video found that 81.3% brushed their teeth twice a day, 59.4% answered that sweet foods caused cavities, 71.9% responded correctly that cavities if not treated will cause swelling, 90.6% answered incorrectly that teeth were only left alone if they had cavities and 93.8% answered how to maintain oral hygiene by brushing their teeth properlyConclusion: There is an increased understanding of dental and oral health

Abstract

Background: Plaque plays an important role in causing caries and periodontal problems. Plaque control should be done chemically in an effort to reduce the accumulation of plaque in the oral cavity. Juice of red grapes (Vitis vinifera) has a chemical compound as an antibacterial catechins and tannins . The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of rinsing with red grape juice with different concentrations of chlorhexidine and 0.12 % during the 7 day study of the reduction of plaque index. Method: This study is quasi-experimental study which was conducted on 25 students Aisyiyah Orphanage. After Scaling and toothbrush cleaning, each sample rinsed with 10 ml of solution 3 times a day has been accepted in accordance with the treatment without taking action toothbrush for 7 days. Result: The mean plaque index in the treatment group began to experience a gradual decline in the fourth day until the seventh day of the study. From the results of Mann Whitney test analysis found significant differences between the various groups of SBA and chlorhexidine 0.12 % concentration with distilled water on the fourth to the seventh day of the study. But betweenthe SBA 100 % with chlorhexidine 0.12 % there is no significant difference. Conclusion: This can be concluded that rinsing with red grape juice with a concentration of 50 % , 75 % 100 % and chlorhexidine 0.12 % has efficacy in reducing the plaque index. 100 % SBA group is a group of the most effective concentration.

Abstract

Background: Traumatic ulcer is an oral mucosa ulcerative lesion caused by trauma. One of the causes is chemicals. Clinical features of traumatic ulcer including yellowish white spots with reddish halo and painful. Treatment for this ulcer are suppressing inflammation and pain thus will increase healing process. Macrophage will be decreased at the end of the inflammatory phase. Red ginger extracts (Zingiber officinale var. Rubrum) contains some compounds that can heal ulcers. Purpose: The objective of this research was to find out the effect of red ginger extract on the macrophage numbers in traumatic oral mucosal ulceration due to chemical in Rattus norvegicus. Method: This study was experimental which post test only control group design. There were five groups: negative control group without intervention, positive control group treat aloclair, and red ginger extract in 2%, 4%, 8% consentration group. The experimental animals were used 25 Rattus norvegicus. They were injured on oral mucosa using H2O2 30% two times a day. Their oral mucosa were made as hystologycal slide, and macrophage counts were observed, then analyzed by Anova test and LSD test. Result: The result indicates some significant effect of red ginger extract on the macrophage numbers in traumatic oral mucosal ulceration from Anova test 0,001 (<0,05). There are significant differences between 2% consentration of red ginger extract and positive control group.There are no significant difference beetween 4%, 8% consentration of red ginger extract and positive control group. Conclusion: It can be concluded that red ginger extract have influence on the number of macrophages in chamical traumatic oral mucosal ulceration in Rattus norvegicus.

Abstract

Background: Congenital heart disease is a condition of heart anomaly and or disfunction of heart since birth. The most common congenital heart disease is Tetralogy Of Fallot (TOF). The disorder has four features, a ventricular septal defect, aortic overriding, stenosis pulmonary, and hypertrophy right ventricular.Method: This review aimed to talk about oral manifestations and discuss options of several oral and dental management in children with TOF.Result: Oral and dental treatment of pediatric patient with cardiovascular disease is important to be carried out with the risk of bacterial endocarditis.Conclusion: Oral and dental management in a child with congenital heart disease is very important. Main point of dental management are dental health education, preventive dental treatment and control periodic after dental treatment.

Abstract

Introduction: Children with special needs have physical limitations and the ability to maintain their oral hygiene, so it needs to be chosen the proper tooth brushing methods for maintaining oral hygiene and prevent periodontal disease.Purpose: This study aimed to know differences of the effectiveness of horizontal tooth brushing methods and foneson the dental plaque index in children with visual impairment.Methods: This research was a quasy experimental laboratory with pre-test and post-test design. The study was conducted on 26 blind children aged 6-13 years in MILB YKTM Budi Asih, SLB-A DriaAdi, and SLB Negeri Semarang that were divided into two groups of horizontal and fonestooth brushing method. Dental plaque was measured using PHP plaque index, examined the dental crown facial or lingual parts by dividing each tooth crown into 5 subdivisions, plaque index inspected before and after 1 week of brushing method application, then analyzed by paired t-test and independent t test at a significance level ofp <0.05. Results: The mean of plaque index before and after brushing the teeth with horizontal method was 2.56 and 0.956 down to 1.61, whereas in the fonesmethod was 3.03 and 1.68down to 1.35. Plaque index before and after brushing teeth both on horizontal and fones method was statistically significant(p <0.05). But the effectiveness of both methods were not different or similar (p = 0.179).Conclusion: There was no difference of effectiveness between horizontal and fones tooth brushing methods on the dental plaque index in children with visual impairment.

Abstract

Background: In the wound healing process there are a variety of processes, including the most important are fibroplasia process that has a very important role in the wound healing process. Red ginger (Zingiber officinale) contains active ingredients include a mixture of components of essential oils and resins that oleoresin which has anti-inflammatory effects. The aim is determine the effect of red ginger extract against the number of fibroblasts in healing ulcers on the oral mucosa white male rats (Rattus norvegicus)Method: Samples using 24 male rats 2-3 months of age and body weight of 120-200 grams. Mandibular labial mucosa injured mice using H2O2 solution for 2x1 days. The samples were divided into 4 groups, where each group each of 4individuals: group 1 without any treatment, group 2 was treated application ginger gel extract 4%, group 3 was given treatment application ginger gel extract 8% and group 4 treated with applications aloclair gel. On the fourth day after the injury,the rats were decapitated, then do making preparations for histology to count the number of fibroblast cells.Result: The results Oneway ANOVA p value <0.05 and post Hoc Test LSD p value <0.05 which means that the extract of red ginger significantly affects the number of fibroblast cells and between groups have significant differencesConclusion: Extract red ginger gel is effective against the number of fibroblasts in healing ulcers on the oral mucosa white male rats.

Abstract

Background: Caries is a illness in the hard tissues of teeth that begins with a physiological process of plaque formation and within a certain period of time. Caries was caused by a lack of knowledge to maintain dental & oral health. One of several ways to increase knowledge of dental and oral health is through counseling. Throughout COVID-19 pandemic, counseling was done by online to keep health protocols. The purpose of research is to discover the impact of online counseling through video teleconference.Method: The study uses a Pre-Experimental concept with One-Group Pre-Test and Post Test. The sample was obtained by total sampling technique, which is all fourth and fifth grade students at Islamic Elementary School of Sultan Agung 1 and Sultan Agung 3 Semarang, which met the inclusion criteria and totaled 86 children. Data were obtained from test result and then the data were analyzed using the non-parametric: Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test.Result: According to data analysis that already implemented, there is a significant distinction (p <0.05) from data beforw & after implementation of online counseling, which means there’s an influence on online counseling because there is an increase in outlook after online counselling.Conclusion: The conclusion obtained is that online counseling through video teleconference has an effect on increasing child’s insight about oral and dental health.

Abstract

Background: The problem of impacted teeth is often asked by high school students. A student conselor must be provided with knowledge related to impacted teeth and their impact. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of knowledge of student conselors about impacted teeth.Method: Questionnaires were distributed to 40 student conselors, before and after counseling, then the differences were analyzed using SPSS.Result: Based on statistical calculations, the p value of 0.000 (p <0.05) means that there was a significant difference between the knowledge of student conselors before and after counseling. Conclusion: there was a difference in tooth impaction knowledges between before counseling and after counseling

Abstract

Background : Children are a population that has a high potential to be exposed to caries. Calcium deficiency due to demineralization of the enamel can cause a decrease in hardness during caries pathway. It can be anticipated with the application of re-mineralizing materials. Duck eggshells are contain high amount of calcium. This research aimed to examine the effect of duck eggshell extract gel (Anas plathyrhynchos domesticus) on the enamel hardness of primary teeth.Methods : This research is an experimental laboratory type using a pre and post-test control group design. There were 3 treatment groups with 4 samples in each group, which consisted of application of duck eggshell extract gel (Anas plathyrhynchos domesticus) with a concentration of 20% and 40%, and casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP) paste. Sample application was carried out 42 times in 14-day intervals. Then the sample was measured with vickers microhardness tester. The data were processed by using Paired T-Test, Kruskal-Wallis, and Post Hoc Mann-Whitney statistical tests.Results : showed that there were significant differences in the samples before and after the application of duck eggshell extract gel (Anas plathyrhynchos domesticus) (p<0.05). Significant differences were also found in the three groups (p<0.05). The group that experienced the highest increase in hardness was the 20% duck eggshell extract gel (Anas plathyrhynchos domesticus) treatment group.Conclusion : was that duck eggshell extract gel (Anas plathyrhynchos domesticus) with a concentration of 20% was effective in increasing the hardness of primary tooth enamel
