Abstract

Incorporating ICT competencies into curricula, syllabuses, or course outlines is crucial to facilitate 21st century learning. However, as a receptive skill that the learner needs to develop, listening also requires supporting materials. such as ICTs, which can support instructors in providing the curriculum. Therefore, the purpose of this project is to create listening course syllabuses for the English Language Education Study Program (ELESP) that include ICT competencies. This research used Design and Development Research (DDR) as the methodology for their study. In this study, fourteen listening curricula from five Indonesian institutions served as the source of data. The following are the findings of this study: First, the ICT competencies are primarily incorporated, either explicitly or implicitly, in the following components: Learning Indicators (I), Learning Objectives (Lob), Teaching Method (TM), Materials (M), Assessment (AE), and Learning Media (LM). Furthermore, most integrated competencies in the current listening syllabuses are related to the utilization of audio and video files. Technology literacy, on the other hand, rises to the most applied level of ICT competencies, meaning that the ICT competencies included in the current listening curricula are still at the level of comprehension and use. Second, six methods for incorporating ICT Competencies into listening syllabuses were suggested by this study. Third, the study suggested creating integrated listening curricula for ICT competencies that encompass all ICT competency levels. Twelve components and a skill-based curriculum were used in the suggested curricula.

Abstract

This research intends to analyze the reading interest of Genshin Impact game players. This research aims to make people more interested in increasing their interest in reading. Because, interest in reading in Indonesia is very low, according to UNESCO data, there is only 0.001% interest in reading in Indonesia. This is certainly a big concern for researchers. Researchers took this case for a study because researchers also want to prove how many online game players have increased their interest in reading because of playing online games, one of which is the Genshin Impact game. Based on the research, the respondents fully believe that they get a lot of positive impacts from playing the Genshin Impact game; get new vocabulary, get lessons from the Genshin Impact storyline, know how to pronounce words correctly from the style of speech to the accent uttered by a Genshin Impact game character. The respondents also admitted that not only did they have fun playing the game, but they also got very good learning.

Abstract

In late 2021, an Extracurricular English Club was established at SMP Garuda, Kota Tangerang, following mentoring and workshops conducted by the Community Service Team from the English Education Department of Universitas Islam Syekh-Yusuf. After operating for a year, the school identified several areas for improvement and evaluation regarding the implementation of the club's activities, particularly concerning the extracurricular coaches and the content delivered to students. This prompted the school to plan the development of a structured curriculum or guidebook for the English Club at SMP Garuda. To enhance the quality of the English Club's extracurricular activities, a community service program was initiated to assist in the development of the club's curriculum at SMP Garuda Kota Tangerang. Although the English Club is an extracurricular program, it is essential to establish a clear set of activities, such as a syllabus and relevant materials, to help students achieve the desired outcomes in improving their English language skills. Through this program, facilitators provided guidance in developing a syllabus-based curriculum focused on topical and functional content. This was accomplished by conducting a Needs Analysis and a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with the coaches of the English Club at SMP Garuda Kota Tangerang.

Abstract

Addressing the challenge of developing effective English communication skills in vocational education, this study explores the integration of podcasting and radio broadcasting as an alternative to traditional classrooms. The goal is to provide vocational students with a more immersive and practical learning experience in line with communicative language teaching principles. Putra Rifara Vocational School initiated a Radio Podcast program, emphasizing technological proficiency. A seminar, "Hosting Podcast in English," was conducted to train students in podcasting and radio broadcasting. Practical exercises were included to enhance language skills, including articulation, opinion expression, and real-time dialogues. A needs analysis revealed students' interest in podcasts as learning material, with challenges related to internet limitations. The initiative positively impacted students' attitudes, behaviors, linguistic proficiency, and soft skills development. Ongoing training and mentorship are recommended to empower students in confidently hosting English podcasts. This initiative demonstrates the potential of podcasting and radio broadcasting to enrich English language learning in vocational education, contributing to linguistic proficiency and soft skills development within the educational environment. Considerations for improving internet accessibility and guiding podcast selection are recommended for future implementations.
