Abstract

The growth in the retail industry means that the retail industry must have a competitive advantage to compete. One source of competitive advantage is customer experience. One factor that has a positive influence on customer experience is the service provided by frontline employees. Nowadays, customers can easily share their experiences and information in online reviews. Therefore, a good understanding of online reviews is necessary to maintain customer satisfaction. This paper proposes a new method for obtaining information from online reviews available on online review platforms such as Google Maps. Reviews on the website will be scraped and translated into English using the large language model (LLM). The translated reviews will be translated to obtain aspects, sentiments, and opinions using an aspect-based sentiment analysis (ABSA) model that has been previously drilled using a dataset in English. The findings are visualized into Pareto diagrams and word cloud to identify aspects related to human resources that most influence the negative or positive ratings given by customers through online reviews.

Abstract

The tourism sector undeniably has a significant economic impact on a region. One of the activities of tourists is shopping, which can create an additional market share for retailers. Therefore, retailers need to seize this opportunity by implementing strategies tailored to the profiles of both local and tourist visitors. This article proposes a retail strategy based on the analysis of local and tourist visitor profiles, using transaction data from Point of Sales (POS) to classify visitors based on their distance from the retailer. Hypothesis testing is conducted to understand the differences in purchasing patterns between local and tourist visitors, along with K-means clustering techniques to group visitors based on distance, age, and purchase value. The interpretation of clustering results helps identify purchasing patterns in each group, enabling retailers to adjust marketing and promotional strategies according to customer profiles. Through clustering analysis in a case study of a retailer in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, three main customer groups were identified: inactive, active, and out-of-town visitors. Retailers should prioritize efforts on active groups, especially Cluster 4, with active members and high transaction values. Clusters 6 and 9 should also be targeted to increase the probability of becoming Cluster 4. Group 1 can be disregarded in marketing efforts, and retailers should tailor their strategies for Group 3 based on their visitation patterns.

Abstract

Traditional business models consider physical assets such as shops, factories, and offices important in generating the company's revenue. This situation also occurs when a company tries to expand its market. For market expansion, using the traditional business model, the company tends to consider opening several sales office branches to support sales. It has consequences for generating additional costs for the company. With the advanced development of information technology, such as the Internet, customers can be reached through e-market platforms. Therefore, the research presented in this paper proposes a platform business model that can support market expansion without adding additional physical assets to the company. This research hypothesizes that developing websites using local language can help the company gain visitors from the area where it is trying to expand its market. Therefore, in the proposed platform business model supported by a website, it is recommended that the website be developed using the local language to expand the market without adding physical assets such as a sales office. The proposed platform business model is then implemented at PT. D&W International, which has been exporting products overseas since 2005. Using the proposed platform business model, the company develops the websites in three different languages: English, Portuguese, and Spanish. The result shows that the platform business model of using a website supported by local language effectively supports the company's business expansion.
