Abstract

Morphometrics study of climbing ferns (Lygodium) in West Sumatra had been conducted from December 2011 to April 2012. This study used survey method and direct observation. The result of this study indicated that four species were identified: Lygodium microphyllum, L. flexuosum, L. longifolium dan L. circinnatum has found in The Biological Education and Research Forest (HPPB), Silokek and Harau. The fertile leaflets of L. microphyllum are deltoid and sterile leaflets are elongatus. The fertile and sterile leaflets of L. flexuosum are elongatus. The number of L. microphyllum leaflets range from 9-12 and L. flexuosum range from 10-13. The fertile leaflets of L. longifolium are palmati-partitus with 1-2 lobed and sterile leaflets are palmatus with 3-4 lobed, then the fertile leaflets of L. circinnatum are palmati-partitus with 2 or 4 lobed and sterile leaflets are palmatus with 4-5 lobed. All of the spesies coulb be classified in to 2 clusters, there were high morphological similarities among spesies in each cluster. Keywords: Lygodium, climbing fern, morphometrics, West Sumatra

Abstract

An inventory of birds visiting Jirak (Eurya acuminata) at Limau Manis Padang was done from July to December 2011. The study used point sampling method to collect birds data and determine birds frequency that visited Jirak (Eurya acuminata). This study found 12 birds species, which belong to two orders, seven families and eight genera. Pycnonotus goiavier was the most frequent visitor. Eurya acuminata was more widely visited for foraging (71.47%), followed by perching (17.40%) and singing (11.13%). The birds mainly visited Eurya acuminata more often in the morning (54.16%) rather than afternoon (45.83%). The top of the canopy area was preferred (45.93%) rather than margin canopy (37.19%) and the center of the canopy (16.86%).Keywords : inventory of birds, Eurya acuminata, canopy

Abstract

Ethnobotany studies of Balimau tradition in Pariaman has been conducted from July to October 2012. The purpose of this study was to determine the plant species and their significance used for the Balimau tradition in Pariaman. This study was conducted using survey methods, interview, and direct plant sample collections in the field. The samples were identified at Herbarium Universitas Andalas (ANDA). The cultural significance used of plant for Balimau tradition was determined using Index of Cultural Significance (ICS). The result showed that 13 species belonging to 10 families were identified as plant species that used in Balimau tradition, namely: Cananga odorata (Annonaceae), Michelia alba (Magnoliaceae), Michelia champaca (Magnoliaceae), Jasminum sambac (Oleaceae), Pandanus amaryllifolius (Pandanaceae), Vetiveria zizanioides (Poaceae), Rosa hybrida (Rosaceae), Ixora javanica (Rubiaceae), Citrus aurantifolia (Rutaceae), Citrus hystrix (Rutaceae), Murraya paniculata (Rutaceae), Mimusops elengi (Sapotaceae), and Alpinia sp. (Zingiberaceae). Citrus aurantifolia has the highest ICS value indicated that the species was commonly used in the ritual of Balimau. Abstract

Floristic study on Zingiberaceae at Protected Forest areas in Talang Mount, West Sumatra has been carried out from July 2012 to April 2013. Samples of Zingiberaceae were directly collected during tracking and searching along three exploration routes to top of mount Talang i.e. the Batu-Banjanjang, Aie Batumbuk and Koto Gadang Guguk. The samples were processed to herbariums specimen and identified at Herbarium Universitas Andalas (ANDA) Padang. Based on analysis of morphological characters, nine species of Zigiberaceae were identified; Etlingera elatior, Etlingera sp., Etlingera foetens, Geostachys sp., Globba aurantiaca, Globba talangensis, Hedychium coronarium, Hornstedtia Pininga and Zingiber zerumbet. We suggested further research for Etlingera sp. and Geostachys sp. on its possibility as new species.

Abstract

The morphometric study of Macaranga Thou. (Euphorbiaceae) leaf was carried out from February to June 2012 at The Biological Education and Research Forest (HPPB), Herbarium ANDA and Plant Taxonomy Laboratory of Biology Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Andalas University, Padang. The survey method was used in this research, the observation and direct collection were performed in the field. The samples were identified based on vegetative characters. The data of the leaf measurements were analyzed by PAST ver. 2.10 programs. It was found six species of Macaranga (M. depressa, M. gigantea, M. hypoleuca, M. javanica, M. tanarius, and M. triloba) and there were identified differentian of characters for each species of Macaranga. The lobes, margo, ratio and types of leaf nervatio used to differentiation. Identification keys based on leaf character could be used to identify Macaranga species. Numerically, species in Macaranga genus could be classified. Keywords: character, Macaranga, morphometric, leaf, HPPB

Abstract

Taxonomical study of Asplenium fern has been conducted in Mt. Singgalang, West Sumatra from April to July 2013. The purpose of this study was to identify the Asplenium species in the mountain and to describe their morphological characteristics. The sample were collected using survey and observation methods along habitual paths at Koto Baru, Tanah Datar and Balingka, Agam. The result of this study have found eleven species of Asplenium. Those spesies were A. affine, A. caudatum, A. glaucaphyllum, A. nidus, A. pellucidum, A. phylitids, A. polyodon, A. salignum, A. scortechinii, A. tenerum and A. unilateral. Those species belong to all five original groups of Asplenium based on morphological characteristics. Keywords: Asplenium, characteristics, mount Singgalang, species

Abstract

The micromorphology capsule and spore are important characters for identification and clarification of problematic taxa in Bryophyta. The number of Pogonatum species in West Sumatra are still unclarified. The purpose of this study is to identify and to make a Pogonatum cluster based on micromorphology of capsule and spore characters. This study has been conducted from March to August 2013. Samples were directly collected in two exploration routes namely Cagar Alam Lembah Anai (Kandang Ampek - Mega Mendung route) and Singgalang Mountain (Pandai Sikek - Top Singgalang route). The micromorphology of capsule and spore of Pogonatum were observed using a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The results showed that five species of Pogonatum (P. ciratum, P. microstomum, P. macrophyllum, P. Teysmannianum , and P. cf. urnigerum) were identified. The key characters of Pogonatum was nematodontous peristome teeth, monolete spore type, prolate spore shape with granulate and echinate ornamentation. Cluster analysis of 44 individuals indicated that Pogonatum tends to be in the same group. Based on micromorphological analysis, the results supported that Pogonatum was similar to Polytrichum. Abstract

The floristic study of Ficus L. at conservation forest Prof. Soemitro Djojohadikusumo PT. Tidar Kerinci Agung (TKA) West Sumatera have been carried out from September 2012 to January 2013. Samples were directly collected during surveys along the tracks at the study area between 300 and 543 meter above sea levels. The samples were processed and identified at Herbarium ANDA, Biology Department. Twenty spesies of Ficus were identified. Each species could be distinguished by some specific morphological characters such as stipula, leaf frorm, waxy glands, and fruit type. We prepared description for each species and determination key of species level. Keywords: Ficus, forest conservation, floristic study, morfologycal character, palm oil planation and Species.
