Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between sources of social support and mental health degrees in emerging adulthood of Universitas Hasanuddin students. The participants of this research are undergraduate students at Universitas Hasanuddin. The sampling technique utilized in this research is stratified random sampling, while the number of the participants on this research is 411 participants. The scale applied in this study is the sources of social support scale adapted from the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) (12 items, = 0.888) and the mental health degree scale adapted from the Mental Health Inventory (MHI-38) (24 items, = 0.941). The results showed that there is a significant relationship between sources of social support and mental health degrees in emerging adulthood of Universitas Hasanuddin students. The correlation level obtained based on the results of data processing shows that the Pearson Correlations value of the research variable of 0.445 is included in the moderate relationship criteria. A moderate relationship can be interpreted as a medium relationship obtained based on the correlation coefficient criteria. This shows that the relationship between the variables sources of social support and the variable mental health degree is in moderate criteria.

Abstract

Despite the growing recognition of adolescent mental health challenges, there is limited evidence on how adolescent independence and social support interact to influence psychological distress, highlighting the need for contextualized findings to guide mental health interventions. This study explores the relationship between adolescent independence, social support, and psychological distress levels in Makassar, Indonesia. A total of 300 students aged 15–18 years were selected using stratified random sampling. Data collection was performed using validated instruments measuring adolescent independence, social support, and psychological distress levels. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, bivariate analysis (chi-square test), and multivariate analysis (logistic regression) to identify dominant factors influencing adolescent independence. Approximately 60% of adolescents reported high independence, while 75% experienced mild to moderate psychological distress. High social support was significantly associated with greater independence (p < 0.05). Self-efficacy emerged as a key protective factor against psychological distress. These findings underscore the importance of integrating social support and self-efficacy, building programs into school curricula to mitigate anxiety and depression among adolescents.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a program to increase pro-environmental awareness, knowledge, and behavior among students at SMAN X in Makassar using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. GREAT began with preparation, socialization, and environmental ambassador (EA) inauguration, then continues with program implementation which consists of five pro-environmental activities, namely Collecting Inorganic and Organic Waste, Cool with Reusable Stuff, Nature Gift Day, Planting and Watering a Tree to Support Green Nature, Upcycling Unused Stuff. After the implementation, a closing ceremony and program evaluation were held through FGD and self-reflection form. Overall, despite certain shortcomings that require attention for future programs, GREAT has effectively heightened awareness, knowledge, and redirected students' intentions toward pro-environmental actions not only in school but also in family and public environments. Additional endeavours are necessary to overcome challenges identified in the planning and execution of forthcoming interventions in other contexts.
