Abstract

This study aims to examine the implications of changes in urban space as a result of the implementation of government policies in the development and expansion of the city of Siak on the existence of community space and how the community seizes and utilizes spaces of the industry and government to maintain their subsistence economic life. This study uses a rapid ethnography approach. Researchers conduct a desk study before fieldwork to obtain an initial research report. Researchers stayed in Siak District for 40 days to conduct observations, in-depth interviews, informal conversations, and stakeholder discussions. We conducted Focus Group Discussions (FGD) in the four research villages. The event was attended by 28 participants from four villages, comprising village heads, homemakers, peasants, small traders/street vendors, freelance workers, and NGOs at the district level. The study shows that the four research villages have changed from subsistence community spaces to industrial and government spaces. In this research, the community space is becoming increasingly limited, so people carry out two strategies in seizing industrial and government spaces, namely using government spaces to become places for work and business and controlling industrial spaces, Even though this can give rise to latent and manifest tenure conflicts, corporate and society's urban space becomes an arena for struggling for the means of production represented through control and ownership of space. Society must adapt to these conditions to obtain space for them. Government policies in developing and expanding the city of Siak have not taken the community's interests as the primary goal.

Abstract

Sexual violence against children is a violation of human rights, which has a significant impact on the psychological and social conditions of the victims. This research explores the conflict between victims' families in Palembang City through a qualitative approach using observation and interview methods. The informants comprised 4 victims' families, 4 community members, and 1 representative of the Woman Crisis Center. Data analysis using Nvivo software reveals that family conflicts are often triggered by differences in views in dealing with the impact of victims, which are influenced by socio-cultural factors. Family support, including emotional, instrumental, information, and appreciation, has proven crucial in the recovery process. The results of this research provide insight into the impact of sexual violence on families and provide more effective recommendations for handling similar cases. Abstract

The digital era has transformed political communication by positioning social media, particularly Instagram, as a strategic platform for political actors to build personal branding and foster emotional connections with voters. However, academic studies on the use of visual strategies by presidential and vice-presidential candidates during political campaigns remain relatively limited. This study examines how Indonesia’s 2024 presidential and vice-presidential candidates used Instagram for personal branding, focusing on visual content to build voter support. Qualitative analysis of 2540 Instagram posts revealed three dominant dimensions of personal branding—style, competence, and standard—reflected in 15 themes, including public interaction, political campaigns, family orientation, achievements, and values. Results show that the style dimension — particularly public interaction and campaign activities — dominated image-building strategies, with candidate pair Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar leading uploads in style and competence. At the same time, Ganjar Pranowo was strong in public interaction themes. Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming emphasized achievements, cultural themes, and the celebration of memorable moments. These findings demonstrate that Instagram visuals were strategically used to highlight uniqueness, strengthen credibility, and foster emotional resonance with voters, underscoring the central role of visual branding in influencing voter behavior.

Abstract

Children are assumed to be innocent entities and have not much experience. However, the emergence of the phenomenon of children as perpetrators of crimes (children in conflict with the law/CICL) is contradictory to this assumption. This study explores and examines one aspect of the life of the child perpetrator of this crime, namely the family aspect as the primary habitus. This study used qualitative research methods by interviewing CICL at the Palembang Special Children’s Correctional Institution and Correctional Institution of Kayuagung, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, as well as several related figures. Data were collected by observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Meanwhile, data analysis is built from the ground up, linearly and hierarchically. In line with the focus of the study, the concept used in this study is the primary habitus, which is part of the habitus concept of Bourdieu. The primary habitus is the habitus that the agent has since childhood, which is the basis for forming other (secondary) habitus. The research results related to primary habitus in CICL show that the family is not present as a whole in the process of CICL growth and development and the application of ineffective parenting. Complete absence of the family, shown to the family by the presence of, 1). CICL with separated parents, 2). CICL with one or both parents died, 3). CICL has an intact family but is not fully present in the child’s growth and development process. Meanwhile, poor parenting is shown through 1). Parenting with violence, 2). CICL’s parents and close people have not become positive role models, and 3). Parents do not/less comprehensively provide knowledge and understanding regarding good and bad deeds. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the family institution as a primary institution and an institution of value inheritance through socialization and education between generations. The family can be the main basis for passing down the values ??of anti-violence and crime in supporting efforts to minimize crime habitus.
