Abstract

The Kibuk forest farmer group has been managing Kibuk social forestry for seven years. Capacity building initiatives implemented by the Dempo Region X Forest Management Unit and Hutan Kita Institute have not yet fully enhanced the efficacy of the individual and institutional capacity of the Kibuk forest farmer group, thereby impeding the capacity of the forest farmer group to fulfill its role and function in social forestry governance. This research employs a qualitative verification methodology with a case study strategy. The informants were comprised of individuals engaged in capacity building initiatives and the communities that benefited from these efforts. The findings of this study indicate that the capacity-building initiatives for the Kibuk forest farmer group have not yet fully improved the individual capacity of farmers. While there has been an increase in expertise in non-agricultural fields, knowledge of good social forestry governance and resources, and an improvement in the group's ability to engage in social forestry activities, there are still significant challenges in terms of institutional capacity. These include the lack of a complete social forestry business group structure and a lack of ideas regarding the development of social forestry areas. Members of the Kibuk forest farmer group have not yet been able to assume their own responsibilities. The Kibuk forest farmer group has not yet mastered management and has not yet been able to realize transparency and accountability. The institutional capacity development process of the Kibuk forest farmer group still ignores actual needs assessment, not all action plans and strategies can be implemented, program implementation is limited, monitoring and evaluation are not carried out credibly. The pattern of capacity building remains constrained to the subordinate union of partnership and passive participation of members, and has not yet encompassed a comprehensive and integrated approach. It is necessary to develop an institutional capacity-building model that can enhance the role and function of the Kibuk forest farmer group in implementing social forestry governance principles in an effective manner.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implications of changes in urban space as a result of the implementation of government policies in the development and expansion of the city of Siak on the existence of community space and how the community seizes and utilizes spaces of the industry and government to maintain their subsistence economic life. This study uses a rapid ethnography approach. Researchers conduct a desk study before fieldwork to obtain an initial research report. Researchers stayed in Siak District for 40 days to conduct observations, in-depth interviews, informal conversations, and stakeholder discussions. We conducted Focus Group Discussions (FGD) in the four research villages. The event was attended by 28 participants from four villages, comprising village heads, homemakers, peasants, small traders/street vendors, freelance workers, and NGOs at the district level. The study shows that the four research villages have changed from subsistence community spaces to industrial and government spaces. In this research, the community space is becoming increasingly limited, so people carry out two strategies in seizing industrial and government spaces, namely using government spaces to become places for work and business and controlling industrial spaces, Even though this can give rise to latent and manifest tenure conflicts, corporate and society's urban space becomes an arena for struggling for the means of production represented through control and ownership of space. Society must adapt to these conditions to obtain space for them. Government policies in developing and expanding the city of Siak have not taken the community's interests as the primary goal.

Abstract

In Indonesia, swamplands are spread across several regions, one of which is Palembang City, which has the highest level of drug abuse cases among districts/cities in South Sumatra Province. In order to tackle this problem, a special approach is needed that takes into account the geographical and socio-economic conditions in swamplands. This study aims to analyze drug abuse prevention programs in Palembang City and develop an effective drug abuse prevention model in particular swamplands. This research used qualitative methods with triangulation techniques to gain an in-depth and comprehensive understanding of the drug abuse program in Palembang City's swamplands. Informants in this study included three groups: drug abusers, stakeholders, and the community. A drug abuse prevention model in swampland must take into account the unique conditions of the area, such as limited accessibility and possibly low levels of community welfare. Effective approaches include improving access to education and health services, economic empowerment through local programs, and active community involvement in prevention efforts. In addition, these strategies need to be tailored to the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of the local population to ensure the success and sustainability of prevention programs.

The analysis of cultural studies is carried out to provide context for the dynamics of changes in cultural identity that affect changes in the limas house. The results showed the structure of the limas house reflects the organizing the layout of the house according to family structure, kinship relationship, gender, and marital status as the cultural identity Palembang. The cultural identity is dynamic through the processes of production and reproduction, thus influencing changes in the limas house. The dynamics of change show the limas house can accommodate social continuity. Limas house is an arena that shows cultural identity through building changes that are adaptive to the social processes. Limas house needs to be protected, maintained, and developed through reinterpretation and revitalization in line with the cultural dynamics of the society.
