Abstract

This study examines English proficiency differences between Mondok (full-time Islamic boarding) and Nyolok (daily commuting) students in an Islamic vocational Pesantren in Jember, Indonesia. Using mixed-methods with 40 female students (20 each group), tests revealed Mondok students scored significantly higher (68.50 vs. 63.25; p = .038). Despite this 5.25-point difference, both groups achieved intermediate proficiency through distinct pathways—demonstrating Complex Dynamic Systems Theory's principle of equifinality. Qualitative data showed Mondok students, despite technological constraints, developed adaptive strategies like peer learning and utilized limited "kiriman" time effectively. In contrast, Nyolok students with technological access struggled with consistency and speaking anxiety due to less structured environments. The findings illustrate how different environmental conditions within the same institution trigger unique adaptive patterns, highlighting CDST's value in explaining non-linear language development in Islamic educational contexts and offering practical implications for differentiated instruction in vocational Pesantren.

Abstract

This study examines the natural phenomena on the development of lemma and meaning in the variety of languages used by adolescents on social media. Research design was done naturally through the process of observation, taking notes, and writing down the case. The qualitative research appears in the development of the entry which is easily found as a definite phenomenon of linguistic development. The data collection method was carried out by tracing data on the use of various languages on social media. To analyze the data, the researcher uses padan and agih methods. This method is to test the accuracy of classification on the types of language used by adolescents in social media in the development of the entry and or the development of the meaning of the entry. The results showed that the variety of languages on social media is very dynamic, developing, arbitrary, but conventional. The variety of languages indicates the development of new lemmas, acronyms, and walikan. The development of meaning is marked along with the development of the entry in the form of synonyms and the use of the Indonesian language entry in the form of a polysemic. Based on the results of this study, adolescents can be considered a productive period in exploring the language, through direct interaction or social media. Becoming actively productive in language exploration led to a potential for concepting a new lemma and a new meaning according to the context of language use. In addition, this development becomes one proof of the self-existence of adolescence, community characteristics, and also the need for the development of Indonesian vocabulary.

Abstract

Most of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Banyuwangi promote their products only by participating in events such as exhibitions, held in Banyuwangi. MSMEs do not have branding for their products, or the branding is not attractive enough.  Therefore, MSMEs in Banyuwangi need effective promotion and branding. Community service activities by the Information Systems Study Program, Faculty of Science and Technology, Airlangga University, aim to provide training on creating social media content by utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) for branding and promoting MSMEs in Banyuwangi. The applications used in this activity are Instagram, Facebook, Canva, and ChatGPT. There are three stages of activities, namely preparation, implementation, and evaluation. Twenty-one (21) Banyuwangi MSMEs, 14 lecturers, and 3 students attended the community service activities. MSMEs participating in this community service have various products, such as food, drinks, furniture, and handicrafts. After implementation, participants were asked to fill out a questionnaire to get an overview of their understanding after being given the training. The evaluation was carried out using a Likert scale. Sixteen (16) indicators were used to evaluate this activity.  The evaluation results show an average score of 97.48%.  This score proves that this community service activity is very suitable for increasing the ability to create branding and promotions for MSMEs in Banyuwangi. The training participants were enthusiastic about understanding and creating effective promotional digital content.

Abstract

Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) require early intervention during their developmental stages. Currently, the availability of experts capable of accurately classifying the independence levels of children with ASD remains limited. Determining these independence levels is crucial, as it serves as the basis for establishing appropriate early interventions. The system aims to assist specialists in conducting more consistent and efficient assessments. This study contributes a novel application of a forward chaining–based expert system for classifying ASD children’s independence levels, integrating rule-based reasoning with user-centered evaluation, which distinguishes it from previous studies that primarily focus on diagnosis rather than functional independence assessment. Data were collected from three institutions: two Public Special Need Schools and a Regional Technical Implementation Unit of Children with Special Needs in East Java. The dataset consists of 400 records encompassing five daily activities: eating, drinking, brushing teeth, dressing, and taking off clothes. The independence levels are classified into three categories: independent, partially independent, and dependent. This research consists of seven stages, namely data collection, rule based system using forward chaining, database design using CDM and PDM, user interface development, implementation of the Next.js framework system and PostgreSQL database, system testing, and system evaluation. The results of the study showed that the accuracy was 98.5% and the user satisfaction score was 80.85%. These results indicate that the proposed method is effective in supporting therapists in determining the level of independence of children with ASD based on rules established by experts.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the limited research on the ability of Elementary School Teacher Education (PGSD) students to receive STEM-based basic mathematics learning, although this approach is considered to play an important role in developing 21st-century skills in higher education. This study aims to describe the ability of PGSD students to receive STEM-based basic mathematics courses in Surakarta. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. The research participants were students of the PGSD Study Program in Surakarta selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews, observation, documentation, and open-ended questionnaires and were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive analysis model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that students had a fairly good ability to receive STEM-based basic mathematics learning. Students were able to understand the relationship between mathematical concepts, science, technology, and contextual problem-solving, and they showed strong interest in project-based collaborative learning. Nevertheless, there were still obstacles in technology integration and the application of simple engineering aspects. These findings are in line with constructivist theory and contextual learning, which emphasize the importance of active learning experiences in building conceptual understanding. The conclusion of this study affirms that STEM-based basic mathematics learning can provide more meaningful learning experiences and support the strengthening of critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity skills among PGSD students. The implications of this study include theoretical contributions to the development of STEM learning literature in the context of elementary school teacher education and practical implications for lecturers and curriculum developers in designing more innovative learning integrated with technology. This study also opens opportunities for further research on the development of digital technology-based STEM learning models and the influence of self-efficacy on students’ readiness to participate in STEM learning.
