Abstract

In an effort to avoid the accumulation of polybag waste, it is necessary to look for other alternatives as a substitute for polybags that can fulfill the nutrients needed by plants and can reduce plastic waste from the use of polybags (Murdhiani Rosmaiti, 2017). One way to overcome the weaknesses of polybags is to use seedling containers made from environmentally friendly organic materials, namely Compost Blocks. The basic material for environmentally friendly Compost Blocks has the advantage of being easily decomposed and can contribute quite a lot of nutrients (END, 2018). The aim of this research is to determine the effect of the composition and type of organic material as well as the composition of organic adhesive on water content and water absorption capacity in making Compost Blocks. The research was structured based on a two-factor completely randomized design. The first factor is the composition and type of organic material (Kagot 100%, cashgot 50% + leaf litter 50%, cow dung 50% + leaf litter 50%) while the second factor is the composition of the organic adhesive (starch 5% and 10%). The composition and type of organic material as well as the composition of organic adhesive have a significant effect on the water content and water absorption capacity of making Compost Blocks.

Abstract

Abstract

Sand and stone mining activities in Kuningan Regency cause damage to soil and environmental ecosystems, so reclamation and revegetation are carried out. The purpose of this study is to determine the existence of indigenous / local Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (FMA) found in the rhizozofer stands of Sengon (Paraserianthes falcataria) and Acacia (Acacia mangium) which are revegetation plants on the land of former sand and stone mines Cipancur village, Kalimanggis district, Kuningan regency. Sampling using the composite sampling method, FMA isolation technique using the wet pour method is then continued with the centrifugation technique and root colonization observation technique using the root staining technique (staining). The temperature of the ex-mining soil ranges from 28C – 29C, the soil pH is 5.5 including acidic, the soil moisture varies between wet, medium (slightly wet) and dry (dry) but during the rainy season the soil will become wet and even flooded. The results showed that there were 5 genera, it are Acaulospora, Glomus, Gigaspora, Sclerocytis and Scutellospora. The dominant genus is Glomus. The highest spore density was found in Sengon stands with 1,157 spores per 50 grams of soil. The highest percentage of AMF infection was at the root of Sengon stands at 69% from the ex-sand mining area.

Abstract

Medicinal plants have high value and have long been used in traditional medicine. Indonesia is rich in plants with medicinal potential, but their utilization faces challenges such as environmental degradation and lack of research. PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa Palimanan Cirebon is committed to maintaining biodiversity amidst the impacts of its industry. The surrounding area remains a habitat for medicinal plants and ecosystems that support life. This study aims to determine the diversity and potential of medicinal plants in several ecosystems or land cover. Data collection used the grid path method by making observation plots at each location for undergrowth, seedlings, stakes, poles and trees, then analyzed for diversity and potential. The results of the study inform that the diversity of undergrowth dominates each ecosystem and the location of the Blindis Mountain Conservation Area has higher diversity compared to other areas. There are 29 types of undergrowth that have medicinal potential and 31 types of tree habitus at each location that have medicinal potential. These results are important information for companies to manage their areas, especially for plants that have medicinal properties.
