Abstract

Dengue fever is caused by the dengue virus, which is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Dengue fever remains a significant health issue in tropical and subtropical countries. Various preventive measures, including vector control, are undertaken to reduce dengue fever infections. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of soursop leaf + lemongrass extract, soursop leaf + papaya leaf extract, and lemongrass + papaya leaf extract at a 50% concentration in controlling the vector of dengue fever using larvicides. In this research, extracts from the aforementioned plants were prepared and tested for their effectiveness against Aedes aegypti larvae. The larvae were exposed to different extract combinations, and their mortality rates were recorded over a specific period. The results were statistically analyzed to determine the significance of the findings. The analysis showed a significant difference in the average mortality of larvae using the soursop leaf + lemongrass extract combination and the soursop leaf + papaya leaf extract combination (p<0.05). These findings highlight the potential use of natural plant extracts in managing mosquito populations, particularly Aedes aegypti. In efforts to prevent and control dengue fever cases, the use of soursop leaf + lemongrass extract and lemongrass + papaya leaf extract as natural larvicides is recommended. It is crucial for community involvement, public health organizations, and policymakers to adopt natural pest control methods and consider integrating these natural solutions into public health strategies.

Abstract

Waste remains a prevalent issue that has not been effectively addressed. In Indonesia, a significant portion of the population still views waste as useless residual material. The total waste generated in Indonesia reached 21.88 million tons in 2021, with households contributing the largest share at 42.23%, followed by businesses at 19.11%, markets at 15.26%, offices at 6.72%, public facilities at 6.71%, and other sources at 3.55%. This research is an experimental study utilizing a True Experiment design. The descriptive data analysis focuses on transforming plastic waste into paving blocks. Based on the research findings, plastic waste is a highly suitable material for making paving blocks because plastics contain fiber strands that bind the plastic with other materials. After testing for durability, it was discovered that plastic paving blocks can withstand loads of up to 87 kg and exhibit good water absorption properties. Paving blocks made from plastic waste fall into the quality classifications C and D. In conclusion, the production of paving blocks using a mixture of PET plastic involves several stages, including equipment and material preparation, waste collection, cutting, heating, molding, release, soaking, and drying. This process constitutes pure experimentation aimed at producing an alternative solution to waste management. It is recommended that the community can utilize this research by creating paving blocks from PET plastic waste

Abstract

Managing hospital liquid waste is very important to prevent environmental pollution. Ibnu Sina Islamic Hospital in Padang, as a referral hospital, generates liquid waste that must be treated according to quality standards. This study aims to evaluate the management of liquid waste at RSI Ibnu Sina Padang in 2025, considering input, process, and output. The research method uses a descriptive qualitative approach or in-depth interviews thru interviews, observation, and document review with triangulation analysis. The number of informants to be studied is 6 people. The research results show that the inputs, including policies, human resources, budget, and infrastructure, are generally adequate. The planning process is carried out thru annual evaluations, implementation is based on SOPs, and routine monitoring is done with external laboratory tests. The output shows that most of the liquid waste parameters (BOD, COD, TSS, ammonia, oil and grease, pH) meet the quality standards, although fluctuations sometimes occur in pH and coliform. The main constraints are damage to the wastewater treatment plant equipment and delays in repairs due to funding/budget. It can be concluded that the management of liquid waste at RSI Ibnu Sina Padang has been quite effective, but continuous monitoring, the provision of backup equipment, and improved cross-sectoral coordination are still needed to optimally control environmental pollution.

Abstract

The global water pollution crisis exacerbated by anthropogenic activities demands effective integration between science and policy. This study conducted a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of 285 publications to map the intellectual landscape and evolutionary trajectory at the interface of liquid waste contamination and environmental policy. Findings reveal an exponential acceleration of research since 2014, with 75.78% of publications concentrated in the last decade, reflecting increasing global urgency. China dominates as the research epicenter with the highest productivity (56 publications), the greatest citation impact (1,914 citations), and a role as a key collaboration link. Thematic analysis confirms the consolidation of this field around the core concepts of “environmental policy” (228 occurrences) and “wastewater treatment” (215 occurrences), marking a paradigm shift from technocratic approaches toward holistic policy integration. However, the polarization of international collaboration into 10 cohesive clusters indicates a fragmentation of global discourse. Critically, this study identifies an alarming disparity between rapid scientific progress and lagging policy adoption capacity, highlighting the urgent need for adaptive policy frameworks and transdisciplinary collaboration mechanisms to bridge the implementation gap and respond more effectively to emerging contaminants.
