Abstract

The development of wound healing preparations in diabetes conditions needs to be done because the wound healing process in the respective conditions requires longer time. The aim of this study is to measure the effect of tempeh extract gel containing genistein on wound healing in diabetes rats by observing the response parameters of collagen expression, wound closure speed, epithelialization, and capillarization of wound tissue. The results of testing wound closure using a base gel treatment, tempeh extract gel 2.5%, 5%, 7.5% and without treatment indicated that the treated groups of tempeh extract gel 5% and 7.5% have significant effect on diabetes wound healing in the tested animals. This indication is strengthened by the results of the non-treatment groups statistical test with the 5% and 7.5% tempeh extract gel treatment which showed significant difference in influencing the wound closure response, epithelialization and collagen formation in tissue. The results of the statistical in group without treatment with the base treatment group without extract gel and tempeh extract gel 2.5% showed no significant difference in influencing the wound closure response, epithelialization and collagen formation. Statistical test results on capillarization responses indicated that the results were not significantly different from all treatment groups.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic that has hit the whole world has affected various aspects of life, including education. Education during the pandemic is carried out online which has the potential to cause learning loss for students. Face-to-face learning is needed for students by considering all the risks. Preparation for offline learning is done by equipping students in implementing health protocols. This activity aims to equip students to be ready to carry out face-to-face learning by applying the ‘5M’ programs. Activities are carried out in the form of mentoring and discussion. The effectiveness of the activity was observed by comparing the pretest and posttest scores. The results show that the students' posttest scores are greater than the pretest scores, so it can be concluded that this activity is useful in adding students' knowledge of the ‘5M’ program as an effort to prevent COVID-19 transmission during face-to-face learning.

Abstract

Soy lecithin is a phospholipid often used in liposome formulations. Determination of water and phospholipid composition is one of the problems in the liposome formulation. This study is using molecular dynamics simulation and empirical observation in producing liposome preparations. Phospholipids 1,2-dilauroyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine (DLPE) were objected in molecular dynamics simulations using Coarse Grained Molecular Dynamics (CGMD) approaches. The result showed that the molecular dynamic simulations could be employed to predict the liposome size. The molecular dynamic simulations resulted in liposome size of 71.22 ± 2.54 nm, which was located within the range of the liposome size resulted from the empirical observations (95.99 ± 43.02 nm). Moreover, similar liposome forms were observed on both results of molecular dynamics simulations and empirical approaches.

Abstract

Lipid nanoparticles, one of nanoparticle technology results has been developed both as a drug delivery system and as a research object. Complex lipid nanoparticle, in the drug delivery system development, has an advantage due to its less toxicity. It is important to develop a validated analytical method to determine the drug content in the system of nanoparticle lipid. This research aimed to develop a valid RP-HPLC method to determine free drug content of 4-n-butylresorcinol in the liposome matrix followed by the determination of the encapsulation efficiency (EE%). A system of the RP-HPLC method has been developed using a column of C18 and methanol-redistilled water-glacial acetic acid 79:20:1 (v/v) as the mobile phase with pH maintained at 2.1–2.6. This method was validated in the parameters of selectivity, sensitivity, linearity, accuracy, and precision. During 30 days of storage, the complex lipid nanoparticle system showed the increase in the EE% value during storage time.

Abstract

Resorcinol and 4-n-butyl resorcinol have been used to improve skin health. However, these two compounds were unstable due to the oxidation process. Lipid nanoparticle formulation strategies were reported as the solution to overcome the stability problem for both resorcinol and 4-n-butyl resorcinol. Nevertheless, it is important to determine the content of resorcinol and 4-n-butyl resorcinol in lipid nanoparticle formulation. Aiming to develop the analytical method for resorcinol and 4-n-butyl resorcinol determination, a response surface methodology (RSM) was applied in the HPLC optimization stage. An optimized HPLC condition was obtained by generating a Box-Behnken design followed by multiple response analysis. It was obtained that optimized HPLC conditions due to the predictive multiple response optimization were methanol percentage of 50.0%, acetonitrile percentage of 18.1%, and flow rate of 0.6 mL min–1. This optimized condition was successfully applied and met the requirements of the system suitability test. Quantitative estimation was performed and resulted that the resorcinol and 4-n-butyl resorcinol content in lipid nanoparticles were 70.37 ± 0.47 and 95.07 ± 0.80 µg mL–1, respectively.

Abstract

Background: Noni leaf (Morinda citrifolia L.) extract is a natural product that can be used as a sunscreen. The extract contains flavonoids which function act as an antioxidant. In this work, sunscreen cream formulated with noni leaf extract was prepared using a combination of tween 80 and lecithin. Objective: The purpose of this study is to evaluate how the combination of tween 80 and lecithin affects the physical qualities of the cream, such as organoleptic, homogeneity, emulsion type, spreadability, adhesion, pH, and stability over 28 days of storage at room temperature, and to find the best formula. Methods: This study used 10% of noni leaf extract in the cream formulation. The Simplex Lattice Design (SLD) method was used to determine the effect of different concentrations of the two emulsifiers on the cream's spreadability, adhesion, and pH. Furthermore, the SLD was used to find the best formula. Results: The results showed that different concentrations of the emulsifier, which are the tween 80 and lecithin combination, affected the physical properties and storage stability of cream preparations. The interaction of tween 80 and lecithin is having a significant impact on the cream's adhesion and spreadability; however, the effect of the interaction on the pH value was not significant. Conclusion: The formula containing 2.5 % tween 80 and 2.5 percent lecithin was found to be the most effective in fulfilling the cream physical properties while remaining stable during storage.

Abstract

Nanosilver is a type of metallic silver nanoparticles and has a particle size of 1-100 nm. The method used in the synthesis of nanosilver is a chemical reduction method with silver metal precursor AgNO3 and a bioreductant of binahong leaf extract containing flavonoid compounds. This study aims to obtain the duration, temperature and optimum point in the synthesis of nanosilver with the bioreductant of binahong leaf extract using the sonication method. This type of research is purely experimental with a 2x2 factorial design. The nanosilver characterization was conducted by determining the optimum wavelength and the transmittance value of the nanosilver formed. The effect of temperature and duration of sonication on the wavelength and % transmittance of the synthesized nanosilver in this study were analyzed by ANOVA statistical test using the Minitab 19 application with a 95% confidence level. In this study, the temperature and duration of sonication as well as their interactions have an effect on the transmittance response. The statistical results of the model have a significant effect on the % transmittance response only with p-value 0.05. The optimum point was found in the synthesis of nanosilver with the bioreductant of binahong leaf extract (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) using a 2x2 factorial design, namely at a sonication temperature of 80°C for 10 minutes, a sonication temperature of 70oC for 15 minutes and a sonication temperature of 80oC for 15 minutes.
