Abstract

Sunflower oil is one of the components of moisturizing cream that keeps the moisture of the skin. To produce a good quality cream, it is necessary to select appropriate emulsifying agent. This study aims to find the optimum composition between Tween 80 and Span 80 as an emulsifying agent in the preparation of sunflower oil cream, to meet physical properties and physical stability in terms of viscosity, spread ability and viscosity shift for 30 days. The ability of the cream to maintain skin moisture was tested using the Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL) method. This study used a 22 experimental research design with the Simplex Lattice Design. The results showed there are 3 formulas of Tween 80 and Span 80 in proportion (6:4)%, (7;3)% and (8:2)% that fulfill the requirements with 143,3-153,3 dPas in viscosity, spread ability in range 5,0-5,3 cm, and viscosity shift between 4,3-6,8%. Based on TEWL test, the optimum formula obtained has a moisturizing effect with a TEWL value 17,9-38,0%. It conclude, sunflower oil could be formulated into moisturizing cream using combination of Tween 80 and Span 80 in proportion (6:4)%, (7;3)% and (8:2)% to fulfill the requirements for 30 days and could keep the skin moisture.

Abstract

It has been proven that gotu kola (Centella asiatica (L.) Urban) have an antioxidant activity that make it possible to use in preventing degenerative illness. The aims of this study are to find the effect of n-hexane purification before maceration on asiaticoside content, free radical scavenging activity and total phenolic content of gotu kola ethanolic extract. The gotu kola extract was made by maceration process using the mix of ethanol and aquadest as solvents in different proportion, which are 100%:0% (E100), 75%:25% (E75), 50%:50% (E50), 25%:75% (E25), and 0%:100% (E0). The determination of asiaticoside content in gotu kola ethanolic extract was measured using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) Densitometry method, free radical scavenging activity was measured using diphenylpicryl hydrazyl (DPPH) and defined by parameter of IC , and total phenolic content was defined by equivalency of galic acid using Folin-Ciocalteau. The results show that the hexane purification would increasing total phenolic content significantly in ethanolic extract which extracted with solvents in proportion of ethanol:aquades 75%:25% (E75), 50%:50% (E50), and 25%:75% (E25), but not significant in decreasing of IC . Statistically, n-hexane purification was also not significant to increasing asiaticoside content in gotu kola ethanolic extract.

Abstract

The aims of this research are to determine the effects of tartaric acid, sodium bicarbonate and their interaction on the physical properties of effervescent granule made by dry granulation and also to determine the optimum composition area of tartaric acid and sodium bicarbonate that produce qualified effervescent granule. The experimental study employed factorial design with two factors, i.e. tartaric acid and sodium bicarbonate, and two levels, i.e. high level and low level. The formulas were optimized on their physical properties, i.e. the granules flow rate, moisture content, disintegration time and pH of the solution. The data were statistically analyzed using Yate’s treatment with 95% level of confidence. The results show that tartaric acid was dominant in determining the disintegration time of the effervescent granules, while sodium bicarbonate was dominant in determining the moisture content of the effervescent granules. Interaction between tartaric acid and sodium bicarbonate significantly determined the flow rate of the effervescent granules and the pH of the solution. The optimum composition area of tartaric acid and sodium bicarbonate was not produced because there was one physical property of the effervescent granule that was not fulfilled, i.e. the granules moisture content.

Abstract

The aims of the research are to determine the Significant effect factor among mixmg rate, mixing time and their interaction on the physical properties and stability of green tea emulgel and to determine the optimum composition area which can produce good emulgel. In our previous investigation was determined the optimum composition between emulsifying agent (Tween 80 and Span 80) and gelling agent (Carbopol) This research determined the optimum mixing process, particularly on mixing rate and mixing time usig the factorial design with two factors (mixing rate and mixing time) and two levels (high level and low level). The physical properties and stability parameter investigated were including viscosity, spreading ability and viscosity shift atter storage at predetermined temperature and humidity for a month. The results showed that mixing rate Significantly influence on the viscosity and spreading ability and the mixing time significantly influence on the Viscosity shift. The optimum composttion area was not produced because the factorial design equation for viscosity respond and viscosity shin were not significant so can not be used to predict responds.
