Abstract

This study aims to analyze the phenomenon at the 2022 Oscars. The origin of this issue is the tragic joke-turned-tragic slapping by Chris Rock. This research utilized a descriptive qualitative methodology. The primary source for this study was content analysis data from Oscar 2022, when Chris Rock hosted. This research's objective was determined in three steps: data gathering from YouTube and Instagram channels, data analysis, and discussion and results. After all the data was collected, the researchers tried to find the theory of superiority and underestimation in Gauter (1988) as the situation showed how Chris Rock used Jada Pinkett as a joke. Based on data analysis, the researchers determined that the OSCAR 2022 case study was separated into the following sections: The context of comedy, Moral power, and code of ethics on stage. Based on the analysis results, the researchers found out that the most important takeaway from this topic is that not everything is appropriate and worthy of being converted into a joke, much alone entertaining the public.

Abstract

Education broadens students' grasp of all disciplines. Nationalism is one of the most intriguing concerns Indonesian students confront today. Today's students are more technologically savvy, allowing them to get global information quickly. As technology advances rapidly, educators must guide and persuade them to learn more about Indonesian culture. One of the cultures they can learn about is the Betawi culture. Teachers could ask them to learn and read about Indonesian culture using their own devices. However, educators could also assist students through engaging instructional activities, such as watching films about Indonesian culture. 'Si Doel Anak Sekolahan' is the most recommended one. It is one of Indonesian TV series that strongly depicts the life of Betawi culture. Thus, in this study, the researchers aim to analyze how “Si Doel Anak Sekolahan” represents the identity of Betawi culture. The object of this study was taken from RCTI YouTube Channel, Layar Drama Indonesia entitled SI DOEL ANAK SEKOLAHAN - Atun Pengen Kagetin Babe Pake Tanjidor episode 9. To seek how the identity of Betawi culture depicted in that movie, the researchers used a qualitative approach and applied Mise en Scene theory from Manon de Reeper and Cultural Identity theory from Stuart Hall. Abstract

Horror is one of the most popular film genres, particularly among Indonesians. One of the reasons the Indonesian people love watching a horror movie is because of the sensation of a jump scare. Thus, the number of horror film watchers in Indonesia continues to grow. This condition may aid Indonesian film production, as practically everyone enjoys horror. However, it is also problematic because Indonesian film has struggled to enhance its quality. Thus, the author's objective in this study is to analyse the dilemma confronting Indonesian cinema: the trade-off between profit and quality. To assist the author in doing this analysis, Film Production Management from Bastian Cleve is applied.  The findings of this study reveal that Indonesian film production faces particular challenges that must be overcome. Indonesian cinema should prioritize quality above immediate profit as improving the quality of a film can result in a higher profit. Thus, the courage to develop and compete is critical to overcome those challenges.
