Abstract

Community service program is a mandatory activity for higher eduacation in community empowerment and development. These activities include training programs and application of appropriate technology including the utilization of solar energy for water pumps in orphanages in Rokan Hulu regency and the street lighting program in Simpang Petai village, Kampar regency in Riau province. This activity also considers to the obstacles faced by the community with offering and implementing appropriate technology to them as beneficiaries. This activity takes place with the involvement of students in work and lecture program (KKN) that integrated with community service activities.It is shown that the community as beneficiaries have joined diligently and received assistance with this program by implementation of solar water pump and street lighting. The evaluation of this activity shows that collaboration continues between the community and the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Riau and the communitis feel helped and there is an improvement in the electricity infrastructure in their village. This activity was carried out in a fostered village by the Faculty of Engineering, University of Riau.

Abstract

In order to supply the water for laying hens farm in Kubu Cubadak Simpang Petai, the service team from University of Riau has designed a water purification system using the filtration technique. Before designing the filtration, sample of water from the well around the farm is taken and analyzed in the laboratory. Based on this result, the filtration is characterized to get the water satisfying the needs of the farm. There are two tubs in the filtration system containing silica sand, zeolite, and active carbon. Water from the well is pumped to the tank with three-meter height. From there, water is pumped back again to the tube to get the optimal water flow. The quality of water from the filtration have enhancement in terms of color, turbidity, and pH. The color and turbidity of water are improved from 41 NTU to 0 NTU and from 22,5 NTU to 5,59 NTU, respectively. Furthermore, there is an increasing in pH of water, from 5,44 to 6,32. These results have fulfilled the standard for laying hens farm.

Abstract

One alternative energy that is easy and can be used is wind. This energy is utilized through wind turbines which have two general types, namely horizontal and vertical axis wind turbines. This wind turbine can move by utilizing the energy available in the wind to rotate the turbine. The problem with wind turbines is self-starting is difficult to achieve. This can be caused by several factors, such as slow wind speed and erratic wind direction. In addition, wind turbines also have low-efficiency values. Therefore, our contribution to this research is to design a blade controller on a vertical axis wind turbine. This blade control is designed by utilizing the pitch angle by using actuators that are applied to each blade based on the Proportional, Integral & Derivative (PID) algorithm. The PID algorithm is used to find the appropriate pitch angle value on a vertical axis wind turbine. The effect of the pitch angle on the wind turbine serves to maintain the mechanical power value by the available power in the wind. This research was conducted using a simulation method (MATLAB). In this study, it was found that this wind energy conversion simulation produces maximum mechanical power when the wind speed varies is 1723 Watt and when the wind speed is 7 m/s, mechanical power achieved is 362.595  Watt.

Abstract

This paper presents photovoltaic system as a stand-alone electric power plant in the renewable energy development.  To maximize these stand-alone generators, it is necessary to design photovoltaic modeling to produce energy and maximum power.  The problems that exist in the design of PV systems are PV configuration, battery size, and the maximum power system. Therefore, this research will be proposed modeling Matlab/Simulink based PV system. The contribution of this research can provide various characteristics of the photovoltaic system with a capacity of 100 Wp.  This modeling is designed using Matlab/Simulink software.  The data generated from this simulation will provide a good reference for designing the stand-alone generators in the future.

Abstract

Administration is handled by a Secretary in Public Broadcasting Institution – Radio of Indonesian Republik (LPP-RRI) Pekanbaru. Administration is one field which need to be improved to increase performance of LPP-RRI Pekanbaru in giving services to broadly society in Indonesian area. Incoming Letter Administration is done by recording activity of entering letter manually in an Administration Book of Incoming Letter. Aim of this research is to analize Archieving Information System of Incoming Letters which built on Website of LPP-RRI Pekanbaru by using PHP and MySql for local network. So, Administration of Incoming Letters will not be done manually. Methodology in this research is Analyzing Necessity, Collecting Data, Designing of Recording System from Incoming Letters, Implementing Built System. Method is shown by flowchart and use case diagram. This research can help Secretary in organizing Incoming Letter from year to year completely. So, it can increase Secretary’s productivity. In addition, reporting to Chairmsn of Secretary can be easier because it can be done in form of MS Office. Recording process of Incoming Letters can be done faster because its data kept safety and structurely. Results of research shows that this research works as its framework.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe hijab sewing skills training program is seen as a strategic educational skill to be implemented for women because hijab sewing can be applied for their own needs or become a side business. This skill, if properly trained and mastered, can become a form of business that can help the family economy and create jobs for the community. The village community service activities were carried out in Bunsur Village, Sungai Apit Subdistrict, Siak Regency, Riau Province with the target audience is the housewives of the village. They have given basic knowledge in choosing materials for the hijab. Then skills trained was held, starting how to make pet and headscarves, cutting fabrics according to the patterns that have been made, and sewing headscarves with various existing patterns. After the stitches are finished, then an examination of the results of the stitches so that they are suitable for sale and market. Keywords: Bunsur Village, home industry, sewing training, hijab  ABSTRAKProgram pelatihan keterampilan menjahit jilbab dipandang sebagai sebuah skill pendidikan yang strategis untuk dilaksanakan bagi wanita karena menjahit jilbab dapat diaplikasikan untuk kebutuhan sendiri ataupun menjadi usaha sampingan. Keterampilan ini bila dilatih dan dikuasai dengan baik dapat menjadi bentuk usaha yang dapat membantu perekonomian keluarga dan penciptaan lapangan kerja bagi masyarakat. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat desa ini dilaksanakan di Desa Bunsur Kecamatan Sungai Apit Kabupaten Siak Propinsi Riau dengan khalayak sasarannya adalah Ibu-ibu rumah tangga desa tersebut. Mereka diberi pengetahuan dasar dalam memilih bahan untuk jilbab. Kemudian diadakan pelatihan keterampilan, mulai cara membuat pola pet dan jilbab, memotong kain sesuai dengan pola yang sudah dibuat, dan menjahit jilbab dengan bermacam pola yang telah ada. Abstract

Coal mines are generally located in very remote areas and so far from the reach of the power grid. This study designs a coal waste measurement device using solar energy as the power source. The parameter being measured for coal waste is its acidity level to determine water quality standards. The test results show that the photovoltaic (PV) system is capable of supplying power to the pH meter device for a duration of 24 hours with a battery capacity of 18 Ah. The total load of this system is 5.6983 Watts. With variations in load and different weather conditions such as clear, cloudy, and overcast, the solar panel voltage can effectively meet the load requirements within the voltage range of 16.7 volts to 20.9 volts.

Abstract

Steam Power Plant is a widely applied electrical energy generation system.  The limitation of fossil fuels has spurred us to find alternative fuels.  One alternative fuel that can be used in PLTU is biomass.  Coconut coir is a biomass that has the potential to become an alternative fuel which is abundantly available in Indragiri Hilir district, especially in the Pulau Burung sub-district.  This study aims to calculate the electrical power generated from the utilization of coconut fiber as an energy source in Steam Power Plants. The method used in this research is to process quantitative data from coconut fruit production to obtain the availability of coconut fiber, generated calorific value, steam turbine output work and generated electrical energy. The results showed that the availability of coconut fiber with an annual average value of  1,058.405 kg/hour. The heat value from burning one kilogram of coconut fiber was 16,767.2967 kJ / kg. Using calculations, two steam power plant of electrical system designs were obtained, where the output power of the first unit generator was 647,7053 kW and the output of the unit two generating system is 289,2458 kW with a total electric power generated by the PLTU of 936.9511 kW.

Abstract

Pada penelitian ini dirancang sebuah alat pemberi pakan ikan otomatis berbasis IoT (Internet of Things) yang dapat memberikan pakan sesuai jadwal dan kebutuhan nafsu makan ikan kemudian memberikan notifikasi ketika pakan telah berhasil diberikan. Alat yang di rancang juga didukung dengan sebuah database yang mampu menyimpan seluruh riwayat pemberian pakan. Setelah dilakukan pengujian maka dapat disimpulkan alat bekerja dengan baik karena dapat memberikan pakan secara otomatis sesuai jadwal dan kebutuhan nafsu makan ikan serta mengirimkan dan menyimpan data hasil pemberian pakan. Secara menyuluruh alat juga dapat dikatakan akurat karena memiliki persentase rata rata error yaitu dibawah 1%.Kata kunci : IoT, Otomatis, Ikan Patin, Budidaya In this research, an automatic fish feeder device based on IoT (Internet of Things) is designed to provide feed according to the schedule and the fish's appetite needs and to send notifications when the feed has been successfully given. The designed device is also supported by a database that can store the entire history of feedings. After conducting tests, it can be concluded that the device works well because it can provide feed automatically according to the schedule and the fish's appetite needs, and it can send and store data on feedings. Overall, the device can be considered accurate as it has an average error percentage of less than 1%. Keywords: IoT, Automatic, Catfish, Aquaculture.
