Abstract

A lightning protection system is indispensable for the building that has a very vital function, such as Hospital. To protect the building from direct strike and indirect strike use of air terminationsystem and arrester. Among them are air termination system, Protection Angle Method, Method Jala, and Rolling Sphere Method. Building Riau University Hospital is a health care center built by size (p x l x t) 61m x 31m x 27m. To design a lightning protection system at the University Hospital of Riau note identifying the needs of a lightning protection system based PUIPP, the determination of the distance from the strike, election finial, determination conductor resistance values down andgrounding buildings. From the calculation of hazard assessment, the area of lightning strikes reach 37406.98 m2, the possibility of being struck by lightning strikes each year at 0.8915 with a lightning protection system efficiency by 0.883. Based on the results of the design and analysis of building structures Riau University Hospital using the ball rolling seen that the existing protection system can not protect the entire building well. From these results it appears that the building Riau UniversityHospital requires 8 finial placed on any area affected by stroke each finial 1 meter high and the ground is good enough prisoners of 3.5 ohms.Keywords : lightning protection system, rolling sphere method, distance strike

Abstract

This paper discusses the use of corn oil and mixing of vegetable oils with mineral oil (shell diala S4 ZX-I) to be used as an alternative material of liquid insulation. Vegetable oil samples used are corn oil before water content reduction, corn oil after water content reduction, and methyl esters. The focus of the study was to examine the characteristics of the mean breakdown voltage in a sample 100% pure vegetable oil and the mixing sample which was then compared with the results of the mean breakdown voltage test on a 100% pure mineral oil sample and according to IEC standard: 156 - 1995 & IEC : 6056 - 1995. The amount of comparison used between the two samples, ie 25% vegetable oil : 75% mineral oil, 50% vegetable oil : 50% mineral oil, and 75% vegetable oil : 25% mineral oil. The test results show the mean value of average breakdown voltage on the 100% sample of pure corn oil before a reduction in water content, 100% pure corn oil after water content reduction, 100% pure methyl ester, and 100% pure mineral oil are: 18.6 kV/2.5 mm, 35.7 kV/2.5 mm, 34.8 kV/2.5 mm, and 34.1 kV/2.5 mm. From the test, it is seen that 100% pure corn oil before the reduction of water content has not fullfilled the IEC standard: 156 1995 & IEC: 6056 - 1995. Meanwhile for a sample of corn oil mixture before reduction of water content with mineral oil and corn oil mixture after reduction of water content with mineral oil also have not fulfilled the standard of IEC: 156 -1995 & IEC: 60156 – 1995, while for some samples the mixture of methyl ester with mineral oil have fulfilled IEC standard: 156 1995 & IEC: 60156 - 1995. The addition of vegetable oil into mineral oil can also increase water contaminants and viscosity in oil mixed samples. The highest water contaminant and viscosity in each oil mixed sample are in the ratio of 75% vegetable oil : 25% mineral oil.Keywords: vegetables oil mixture, corn oil, metyl ester, oil insulation, breakdown voltage.

Abstract

This research looks at the comparison of the breakdown voltage between mineral oil and soybean oil as an alternative to liquid insulation.This oil test uses half spare electrodes. The value of breakdown voltage of soybean oil is higher than mineral oil. This research also examined in electrode distance variation, reduction of water content and variations in temperature rise on soybean oil to determine the effect of breakdown voltage. less water level in oil results in a higher breakdown voltage. To be used as an alternative to liquid insulation, it must meet several criteria according to the standard specifications of liquid insulating oil. Soybean oil before reducing in water content has rever several criteria requirements including density and viscosity based on standar SPLN 49-1:1982. While the specifications of breakdown voltage, the pour point and flash point not saturate the criteria as an alternative to liquid insulation. Soybean oil after reducing in water content has met several criteria requirements including breakdown voltage, density and viscosity. Abstract

This research is looking for the ratio of breakdown voltage between mineral oil and Cocos nucifera oil as an alternative of liquid insulation. The test of oil uses half-spare electrode. The results of the research, the value of oil breakdown voltage Cocos Nucifera after reduced water content is higher than mineral oil. This research also examined varies gap space, water content and varies in temperature rise on Cocos Nucifera oil to determine the effect of breakdown voltage. Less water level in oil is higher value of breakdown voltage. To be used as an alternative to liquid insulation, it must meet several criteria according to the standared spesifications of liquid insulation oil. Cocos Nucifera oil before reducing in water content has refer several requirements including density and viscosity based on standard SPLN 49-1:1982. Cocos nucifera oil after reducing in water content has met several criteria requirements including breakdown voltage, density, and viscosity. Abstract

This study shows the effect of a lightning strike on the performance of lightning arresters at 150 kV power transformers. In the lightning strike case, there are several parameters that may affect to the arresters performance indicator, i.e the current charge and current quadratic integral . The analysis process is conducted by parameters modelling of transmission line and substation. The simulations are done by providing direct strike to the ground wire of 10 MV with a varies of the wave front time (Tf) and the duration of the strike (tau) of lightning impulse. To calculate the current charge and current quadratic integral of a wide variety of Tf and tau was involved trapezoidal numerical integration methods. Current charge and current quadratic integral that arise from direct strike and varies of Tf and tau compared to each phase in order to obtain the effect of Tf and tau lightning impulse on the performance of arresters as complied to the standard IEEE C62. 11.  Keywords: current charge, current quadratic integral, trapezoidal numerical integration methods, arresters, ATP

Abstract

This paper reports an application of a series resonance converter as a high voltage generator to drive a surface barrier discharge with a magnetic field. The high voltage was about 5 kV with the frequency of 25 kHz. It was connected to circular aluminum plates as the anode electrode and a rectangular aluminum plate as the cathode electrode. These electrodes were separated by a glass dielectric as the barrier. The experiment result indicated that the discharge current with magnetic field was lower than without magnetic field. The plasma on the surface barrier with magnetic field was more luminous than without magnetic field. It also indicated that the area of Lissajous diagram for the surface barrier discharge with magnetic field was slightly decreased than without magnetic field. It could be concluded that the magnetic field affects the plasma progress on the surface barrier. Molecular dynamic (MD) could be used in understanding the ionization process of air molecules. The ionization energies for CO2, N2, and O2 were 0.0502 kcal/mol, 0.0526 kcal/mol and 0.430 kcal/mol, respectively in 1,000 seconds. The highest ionization energy was O2.

Abstract

In the power system, there are many aspects that must be considered to operate the system such as conductor, insulator, and the electric power apparatuses. In this research, we investigated the carbon dioxide and nitrogen gases as gas insulation candidate in the circuit breaker. It is shown that the breakdown voltage of CO2 and N2 is proportional with the gap of sphere electrodes. In order to comparison between CO2, N2 gases and SF6 gas, the breakdown voltage of CO2 and N2 is lower than the SF6. However, if CO2 and N2 gas pressure is 4 bar, the breakdown voltage of CO2 and N2 will be similar or above SF6 at pressure 1 bar.Keywords: carbon dioxide, nitrogen, electrode, breakdown voltage, circuit breaker.

Abstract

This research is focus on the comparison of breakdown voltage between CO2 and N2. In this experiment, the condition of gas pressures were at 1 bar, 2 bar, 3 bar and 4 bar respectively. Configuration of the choosen electrodes were needles and spheres electrodes. Breakdown voltage value for both gases were proportional with gas pressure. It showns that the breakdown voltage of N2 is higher than CO2 on the gas pressure condition 4 bar and gap of needles electrodes 1 cm. The same thing is shown by condition on the gap of spheres electrodes 1 cm and gas pressure 4 bar, whereas breakdown voltage of N2 is also higher than CO2. The breakdown voltages value for the gap of spheres electrodes 1 cm and gas pressure 4 bar reaches the highest value at 137.07 kV/cm and 121.49 kV/cm for N2 and CO2 respectively. This research also varies gas pressure and gap between electrodes. Abstract

This simulation study presents the effect of lightning strikes on the performance of arresters at 150 kV overhead lines. Lightning strikes have several parameters that affect the performance of line arresters (LA), namely lightning charge, and impulse energy. The simulation was attempted by injection of a direct strike to the ground wire with the peak voltage of 10 MV. The peak voltage was varied in terms of wavefront time (Tf) and the duration of lightning impulses (tau). In order to calculate current, charge and impulse energy of LA from various variations of Tf and tau, the trapezoidal numerical integration method is used. The current and impulse energy arising due to direct strikes and various variations of Tf and tau will be compared for each phase so that the influence of Tf and tau can be obtained from the performance of the LA and the current charge and impulse energy values are still within the limits of the IEEE C62.11 standard. The installation of LA and the position of arresters affected the peak voltage of lightning on the phase line when lightning struck it. The line arresters provide a drop in the peak voltage of lightning in phase lines. By installing line arresters in each tower, it will reduce the peak voltage of lightning on the phase line more significantly than the standalone line arrester. It is shown that the line arresters have to install at least six towers to reduce the peak voltage in the phase lines.

Abstract

Insulation of Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) gas, nitrogen (N2) gas and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) gas usually used in circuit breaker. Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) gas is widely used in high-voltage system. Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) gas has a higher dielectric strength than the dielectric strength of air. However, Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) gas is not environmentally friendly and very impact on global warming.The purpose of this study was to test the breakdown voltage of nitrogen (N2) gas is more environmentally friendly as an alternative to insulation of sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) gas. This study use electrodes balls and needles with a distance of 0.5-2 cm and use pressure of 1-4 bar being tested as much as 20 times the experiment. From the test results obtained that the breakdown voltage electrode bigger balls than the electrode needles. Electrode balls with a distance of 2 cm and a pressure of 4 bar has a value of breakdown voltage greater than 140 kV, while the electrode needles with a distance of 2 cm and a pressure of 4 bar has a breakdown voltage of 79 kV.Keywords : Electrodes, Nitrogen (N2) Gas, Insulation of Gas, Dielectric Strength, Breakdown
