Abstract

Low birth weight (LBW) is a significant public health problem in the world. It was estimated globally by the World Health Organization (WHO) that prevalence of LBW was 15% of all births. In Murung Raya district LBW cases remain high. This paper aimed to identify and discuss the relationship between environmental risk factors with LBW in Murung Raya.A spatial analysis was conducted with 150 women as the total participantswho were recruited through the incidence data in 2013-2014. The questionnaires, medical records, and geographic data were measured by Stata software, ArcGis, SatScan, and Geoda. The study results indicated there was significant correlation between health behavior and environmental variables with the strength of external neighborhood effect across LBW risk factors. More intense clustering of high values (hot spots) was found through the spatial analysis showing that most of the cases were located near the defined buffer zone. This research demonstrates that the spatial pattern analysis provided greater statistical power to detect an effect that was not apparent in the previous epidemiology studies.

Abstract

AbstractForest and land fires occur almost every year in Indonesia, especially in Sumatra and Kalimantan during the dry season. Detection of forest and land fires with satellite imagery uses an indicator called a hotspot. The hotspots used today in Indonesia are obtained from the processing of polar orbital satellite image data (MODIS and VIIRS) with a low temporal resolution, which is only six times a day. The purpose of this study is to utilize Himawari-8 satellite imagery data for the detection of forest and land fires that produce hotspots with a temporal resolution of 10 minutes, where the results are validated with polar imagery and field fire data. The research location is in Central Kalimantan Province, and the time of the study is September 2019. Data used for processing are 5 Advanced Himawari Imager channels, administrative boundary maps, and land cover. Processing of satellite imagery data includes the selection of cover pixels and administrative boundaries, determination of observation time, elimination of cloud pixels, Active Fire Monitoring Algorithm, and validation of results. Himawari-8 image data can be processed into hotspots with a temporal 10 minutes. Validation of polar images has an accuracy rate of 66.2% -75.4%, commission error 28.2-46.9% and omission error 24.6-33.8%. The high commission error on the VIIRS image is because the VIIRS image has a much higher spatial resolution compared to the Himawari-8 image.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the risk of soil erosion qualitatively by integrating remote sensing with the geographic information system. Factors that contributed to the occurrence of erosion in the area of study were analyzed using the method of the variation of combined input data of the factors controlling erosion (soil, climate, topography, vegetation, and humans). The input data were quantitative data changed into qualitative data that were obtained from field data and extracted from remote sensing imagery, i.e. SPOT 5. A number of parameters were calculated using the RUSLE model equation. The model was validated by observing the qualitative erosion indicators in the field (pedestal, tree root exposure, armor layers, rill erosion, and gully erosion) by observing slope steepness in each sample area. The area of study was Serang watershed located in Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta. It is one of the critically potential watersheds viewed from the landform and land use. The results of various combinations generated the highest of accuracy by 90.57 % with extremely erosion dominating the area of study. The factors with the highest contribution to erosion in Serang Watershed were slope length and steepness (LS) and erodibility (K).

Abstract

Introduction: Bilateral optic neuritis in adults is rarer then unilateral optic neuritis. The purpose of this study was to know the clinical profile and to know the visual outcome of bilateral optic neuritis in adult patients after oral versus intravenous methylprednisolone therapy. Methods: A retrospective review of patients with bilateral optic neuritis referred to dr.Sardjito General Hospital, Yogyakarta from 2011-2014. The data consisted of bilateral optic neuritis, unassociated with other pathologic processes. There are two groups of patients: Group A taking oral methylprednisolone 1mg/kgBB and Group B received intravenous methylprednisolone (as ONTT guideline). Visual acuity, visual field with Goldmann Perimetry, RAPD (Relative Afferent Puppilary Defect), Ishihara test and direct ophthalmoscopy evaluation were recorded and analysed in both group at baseline, 1 week, 1 month and 3 months follow up.  Results: Nineteen women and 9 men, with age range of 18-54 years old, had bilateral optic neuritis. The majority of the patients suffered from retrobulbar neuritis (43%), papilitis (39%) and neuroretinitis (18%). The average visual acuity before treatment in Group A was 0.22 ± 0.29 and in Group B had poorer average visual acuity 0.03±0.04 (p>0.05). But the trend of visual recovery in Group B with visual acuity at baseline worsen, the recovery of visual acuity was faster and better at one week. After one month the visual acuity was comparable in both groups (p>0.05). Conclusions: Visual improvement in early period of adult bilateral optic neuritis was similar after oral and intravenous methylprednisolone therapy.

Abstract

Abstract

The need for sufficient forest carbon stock measurement system which encompasses a faster and covering broader geographic area is now growing, one of which is the use of synthetic aperture radar (SAR). The objectives of this study were to demonstrate the advantage of ALOS PALSAR application for carbon quantification in mangroves, which apparently provided better relationship in between the L-band backscatters of ALOS PALSAR and the actual aboveground allometric based forest carbon stock of mangroves, compared with previous studies in other types of forest. i.e in tropics or temperate lowland until mountain forests. The better relationship explained by the coefficient determination (R²) of 62 % based on HH polarization with the equation model of Y = 1647.20 + 6.8288BS_HV + 279.48BS_HV + 2870. While previous studies mentioned the R² were only 16 - 76%. The models obtained subsequently were subjected to total carbon quantification and their distributions were mapped. The quantity of aboveground biomass of mangrove forest in Kubu Raya Regency was (Mega grams) or 5.3 Mt (Mega grams), the quantity of carbon dioxide (CO2) sequestration reached 19 451 Mt (Megagrams) equivalent. The 71,069.21 ha area of mangrove forest has the potential to reduce the rate of GHG (Green House Gas) emissions from forestry sector by 0.76%.
