Abstract

Science, Technology/Engineering and Math (STEM) and 21st-century learning are very important to be applied to all students starting from their early age, including at the elementary school level. This study aimed to describe students' attitudes towards STEM and 21st-century skills according to gender and education level. This research was descriptive quantitative by explaining and comparing the results of the questionnaires given to students. Student attitudes were described based on domain of STEM, 21st-century skills, gender, and student grade level. The respondent of this study was 130 elementary students who were obtained randomly from one of the elementary schools in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The results showed that based on the science domain, the mean score of the students was 3.23 (moderate) while mathematics domain obtained was 3.21 (moderate); technology/engineering domain obtained was 3.68 (moderate) and 21st-century skill domain obtained was 3.65 (moderate). According to gender, there was a significant difference between the attitudes of male and female students towards STEM and 21st-century skills. However, there was no significant difference based on the grade of students. Based on these findings, it is suggested that teachers or policymakers should have comprehended the student attitudes before implemented the STEM-based learning and 21st-century skills. These findings can be used to create STEM and 21st-century learning.

Abstract

Ada beberapa upaya yang bisa dilakukan untuk mendapatkan sebuah pendidikan. Tidak hanya menempuh pendidikan secara formal saja, akan tetapi pendidikan secara non-formal juga bisa menjadi opsi yang dapat ditempuh untuk meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan. Salah satu pendidikan non-formal yang dapat diikuti anak anak adalah bimbingan belajar diluar jam belajar sekolah (Bimbel). Bimbingan belajar menjadi upaya yang dilakukan oleh orang tua untuk mengatasi permasalahan pendidikan pada anak. Ada banyak lembaga bimbingan belajar yang sudah tersebar luas saat ini. Namun, tidak semua anak dapat mengikuti bimbingan belajar tersebut. Hal tersebut terjadi pada beberapa anak di Dusun Kentolan Lor Kecamatan Pajangan yang yang tidak mengikuti bimbingan belajar karena biaya bimbel yang mahal dan letak bimbel yang berada di pusat perkotaan. Berdasarkan fakta tersebut, mahasiswa prodi PGSD yang mengikuti program kerja KKN Tematik Matching Fund Universitas Alma Ata melaksanakan kegiatan pendampingan belajar melalui Smart Kids Bimbel di Dusun Kentolan Lor Kecamatan Pajangan. Kegiatan bimbel dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran Living Values Education Program (LVEP). Tujuan dari kegiatan ini untuk meningkatkan prestasi akademik, motivasi belajar anak, dan menanamkan karakter anak melalui aktivitas moral yang menyenangkan mencakup dua belas nilai universal melalui program LVEP. Kegiatan pendampingan belajar Smart Kids Bimbel berlangsung selama dua bulan pada bulan Oktober hingga Desember tahun 2022, dengan jadwal pelaksanaan setiap hari minggu pukul 15.00. Kegiatan yang dilaksanakan setiap satu minggu sekali ini mencakup kegiatan pendampingan belajar, belajar bersama, bermain permainan tradisional, bernyanyi, bermain kuis, serta pembentukan karakter melalui penerapan model pembelajaran Living Values Education.Kata kunci :Belajar, Living Values Education Program (LVEP), Smart Kids Bimbel

Abstract

The advancement of technology in education demands teachers to innovate learning processes, particularly to improve students' psychomotor skills. However, science learning for grade IV students still faces challenges such as limited innovation, minimal use of technology-based media, and unmeasured psychomotor skills. This study investigates the effectiveness of using a contextual Virtual Laboratory (VirLab) practicum module supported by PhET simulation in teaching energy material to fourth-grade students at Banyuripan Elementary School. Employing a quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-shot case study approach, this research involved 18 students who were observed during practicum activities focusing on imitation and manipulation stages of psychomotor skills. Data were analyzed using the normalized gain formula to measure skill improvement. Results revealed an average gain value of 0.8056, categorized as "high," confirming that the VirLab practicum module effectively enhances students' psychomotor skills, particularly in imitation and manipulation. This study demonstrates that integrating contextual virtual labs in science education positively influences active learning and skill development at the elementary level.
