Abstract

This study focuses on the satisfaction of Catholics in Surabaya in accessing the church's Youtube. The COVID-19 pandemic that has hit the world has also changed how religious people worship. Researchers measure motives and satisfaction with using Youtube. This research was conducted using a quantitative approach with descriptive study and survey research methods conducted online with a sample of 100 Catholics in Surabaya who will be taken using the purposive sampling technique. Respondents are satisfied using the church's Community Social Service Youtube of 2.85. The highest position of respondents lies in the information search indicator; the church's Community Social Service Youtube provides satisfaction in finding information for respondents. While respondents are not satisfied with social interaction indicators, the church's Community Social Service Youtube does not give pleasure when used to fulfil information in establishing social relationships. Academically, the benefits of this research can enrich the study of media communication, mainly social media Youtube. Practically, this research is helpful for the Surabaya Catholic Church Social Commission managers to manage the church's YouTube social media.

Abstract

This study is a quasi-experimental evaluative research on applying the tagline "Bukan Sekadar Paham", which is the motto of the digital literacy program of Masyarakat Anti Fitnah Indonesia. The main concerns behind this research are: the absence of a quantitative analysis that conducts an empirical investigation of applying the "Bukan Sekadar Paham" discourse in various programs run. Specifically, this article discusses students’ responses in 4 high schools in Surabaya who participated in a digital literacy program entitled Fikom Mengajar. This digital literacy program was held in collaboration between MAFINDO, the MAFINDO Commissariat of Widya Mandala Catholic University Surabaya (UKWMS), and the Student Executive Board, Faculty of Communication Sciences UKWMS. The research was conducted using the theoretical framework of attitude change using the ABC three-dimensional indicators that measure affect, behavior, and cognition. The method used was a survey method, with an electronic questionnaire data collection method on a google form. The results of this study show an increase in the ability to fact-check images, news texts, and posts on social media among high school students in Surabaya. Thus, quantitatively, applying the motto "Bukan Sekadar Paham" is concluded to have been successfully used in the Fikom Mengajar program.

Abstract

Bermula dari kebutuhan Program Studi Bahasa Inggris (PSDKU) Kampus Madiun Universitas Katolik Widya Mandala Surabaya (UKWMS) untuk memberikan pengetahuan dan skill literasi digital bagi mahasiswa, maka dirancang sebuah program pengabdian masyarakat yang berfokus pada workshop keterampilan cek fakta. Workshop ini berfokus pada tiga keterampilan utama yakni cek fakta, perlindungan data pribadi dan etika bermedia digital. Pertama, keterampilan cek fakta, bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan kepada peserta agar dapat menjadi agen periksa fakta yang terampil, khususnya dalam mengidentifikasi dan melawan penyebaran hoaks. Peserta akan dibekali pengetahuan dan keterampilan bagaimana melakukan periksa fakta. Narasumber akan mengajak peserta mempelajari pengertian hoaks, motif penyebar hoaks, ciri, dampak, dan cara melakukan periksa fakta (video, foto, dan narasi). Kedua, keterampilan perlindungan data pribadi bertujuan agar peserta mampu melindungi data dan perangkat dari ancaman kejahatan online. Banyaknya modus penipuan online di antaranya berkedok pembaruan data dari oknum yang mengaku dari bank, undian berhadiah, lowongan pekerjaan, bahkan modus lainnya seperti pengambilalihan akun pada kartu kredit atau kartu debit dengan mengambil data pribadi. Ketiga, keterampilan etika bermedia digital bertujuan untuk meninkatkan pengetahuan dan pemahaman peserta terhadap netiket. Konflik di media digital dapat terjadi salah satunya ketika seseorang tidak bersikap etis dan terdapat pihak lain yang tidak terima atas sikap atau perilaku tersebut. Bentuk, ragam, motif, dan modus kejahatan semakin beragam dan variatif. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah metode Komunikasi Antar Pribadi dengan menggunakan permainan boardgame. Metode ini cocok digunakan dalam dinamika kelompok agar tidak membosankan. Hasilnya, pesertas merasa pelatihan lebih dinamis dan mudah dipahami materinya. Starting from the needs of the English Study Program at Madiun Campus of UKWMS to provide knowledge and digital literacy skills to students, a community service program focused on fact-checking skills workshops was designed. This workshop focuses on fact-checking, personal data protection, and digital media ethics. Firstly, the fact-checking skill aims to provide training to participants to become skilled fact-checking agents, especially in identifying and combating hoax dissemination. Participants will be equipped with knowledge and skills on how to fact-check. Speakers will guide participants in understanding the concept of hoaxes, the motives behind hoax dissemination, characteristics, impacts, and methods of fact-checking (videos, photos, and narratives). Secondly, the personal data protection skill aims to enable participants to protect data and devices from online crime threats. Among the various online fraud modes are disguised as data updates from individuals claiming to be from banks, prize draws, job vacancies, and even other modes such as taking over credit card or debit card accounts by obtaining personal data. Thirdly, digital media ethics skills aim to enhance participants' knowledge and understanding of netiquette. Conflicts in digital media can occur when someone behaves unethically and there are others who disagree with such behavior. The forms, varieties, motives, and modes of crime are increasingly diverse and varied. Interpersonal Communication method using board games is suitable for group dynamics to prevent boredom and engage participants in game simulations. As a result, participants find the training more dynamic and the material easier to understand.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berangkat dari pengamatan bahwa logika media massa dan logika berbagi di media sosial, telah mengaburkan perbedaan antara profesional dan amatir. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengurai keterkaitan antara framing media dan berita berstandar viral dalam peristiwa kasus Ferdy Sambo di media online dengan engagement media sosial tertinggi. Penelitian ini menggunakan content tools Buzzsumo untuk menarik data dengan pencarian words trends “Ferdy Sambo” dan “Putri Candrawathi” dengan metode analisis framing Zhondang Pan dan Gerald M. Kosicki. Hasil penelitian menunjukan dua bingkai utama. Pertama, pembunuhan Brigadir J sebagai bentuk menjaga kehormatan keluarga oleh Ferdy Sambo. Kedua, Putri Candrawathi meskipun berstatus sebagai tersangka, cenderung ditampilkan media sebagai tokoh protagonis yang menjadi korban kekerasan seksual. Sementara itu, berdasarkan identifikasi elemen berita viral, ditemukan elemen elite people, negative, conflict/violence dan shocking mendominasi kedua words trens. Adapun elemen sexuality mendominasi dalam words trends ‘Putri Candrawathi’. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukan unsur sensasi untuk menciptakan rasa emosional pembaca, dominan dalam bingkai teks media. Kesimpulannya, obsesi media terhadap viralitas membuat penggunaan diksi atau frasa cenderung digunakan untuk memanipulasi emosi pembaca. Akibatnya, narasi media cenderung abai untuk menyampaikan informasi yang utuh dan komperhensif.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic created a critical moment in journalism that changed the journalistic production process and forced journalists to adapt their professional journalistic practices. On the other hand, the pandemic emerged when journalism transformed towards digital platforms that changed journalistic practices to be influenced by social media. This research looks at how journalists struggle to adapt their professional journalistic practices to digital challenges and the Covid-19 pandemic. This research uses a qualitative approach, case study method, and data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews and observations of online media journalists in Surabaya. The research findings show that the pandemic creates a critical moment of journalism in the form of destruction or accelerated destruction of the value of news exclusivity that has long prevailed in journalistic practice. This happened due to internal pressure from the editorial team, limited coverage mobility during the pandemic, and the development of digital applications making journalists carry out the practice of sharing news or information through digital groups.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengungkap bagaimana dua surat kabar lokal di Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) yakni SKH Pos Kupang dan Harian Pagi Timor Express (Timex) membingkai konflik pasca pilkada di Kabupaten Sumba Barat Daya (SBD). Peneliti menggunakan metode analisis framing model Entman untuk melihat pembingkaian yang dilakukan dua media lokal ini dalam memberitakan konflik pilkada Kabupaten SBD. Hal ini berkaitan dengan bagaimana SKH Pos Kupang dan Timex menyeleksi isu, dan melakukan penonjolan aspek tertentu dari isu, yang terkait dengan konflik tersebut. Dengan analisis framing model Entman, peneliti menemukan dua frame besar yang mewakili SKH Pos Kupang dan Timex ketika membingkai peristiwa. Dua frame ini sejatinya memperlihatkan bagaimana peristiwa yang sama dilihat secara berbeda oleh dua media. SKH Pos Kupang yang cenderung melihat konflik sebagai bentuk dari kesengajaan KPU SBD sebagai lembaga resmi penyelenggara pemilu. Hal ini ditunjukkan dengan menonjolkan fakta penggelembungan suara. Sebaliknya Timex, membingkai konflik yang merupakan bentuk dari ketidakberdayaan KPU SBD sebagai penyelenggara pemilu. Ini ditunjukkan Timex dengan menonjolkan kelalaian KPU SBD yang hanya menempatkan dirinya sebagai ”tukang rekapitulasi”. Dua frame ini ditonjolkan SKH Pos Kupang dan Timex dengan menggunakan perangkat penalaran tertentu guna memperkuat basis pembenaran masing-masing.

Abstract

This work is intended to answer how the consequences of media ownership by local elites on the production and construction of discourses of dominant-marginal figures of candidate pairs in the news on the 2018 NTT Governor Election in the Local Newspaper Victory News edition of February – June 2018. With these research questions, this research adopts a critical political economy perspective, instrumental approaches, and critical discourse analysis. The findings show that the different access of the elite to the media is responsible for producing different access to the structure of news reports. This access generates the following five filters 1.) Victory News as an instrument for adding Viktor Laiskodat's hand; 2.) Advertising as a source of income; 3.) Elite as the main news source; 4.) Criticism as a means of disciplining the media and 5.) Pancasila as the ideology of the Republic of Indonesia as a media control mechanism. Meanwhile, from the text level, four main findings can be drawn, namely 1.) Victory News has a minimum critical attitude; 2.) Reliance on elites as news sources; 3.) How and why to become a marginal element in the news Victory News; and 4.) The dominant words of hyperbole when describing the figure of the candidate pair Victory-Joss.

Abstract

Penggunaan menstrual cup oleh perempuan masing dianggap tabu dan tidak nyaman karena budaya, agama, dan adat di Indonesia serta nilai-nilai konservatif masih tertanam di benak masyarakat sebab penggunaan menstrual cup yang dinilai bisa merusak keperawanan. Hal ini diperkuat dengan fenomena menstrual taboo yang memaknai menstruasi pada perempuan sebagai bentuk ketidaksucian. Filmore Pharma mengangkat sebuah kampanye digital (cyberactivism) dengan tajuk ‘Haters Gonna Haid’ sebagai bentuk wacana tandingan mengenai fenomena tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menilik bagaimana wacana disampaikan melalui konten kampanye Instagram ‘Haters Gonna Haid’ mengenai penggunaan menstrual cup dengan fokus teori menstrual taboo. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis wacana kritis Sara Mills yang akan melihat negosiasi antara posisi subjek-objek dan pembaca dalam teks. Dari temuan dan hasil analisis data, wacana yang tersalurkan dalam delapan unggahan Filmore Pharma berupa gambar dan video menunjukkan adanya wacana tandingan berupa negosiasi pesan verbal dan non-verbal yang disampaikan oleh Filmore Pharma kepada audiens mengenai penggunaan menstrual cup yakni pengalaman menstruasi perempuan merupakan hal alamiah, tidak tabu, bukan penghalang bagi perempuan untuk terus berkarya, sekaligus sebagai bentuk perlawanan atas nilai-nilai konservatif pada budaya masyarakat Indonesia.
