Abstract

Shahifah Madinah: A State System According to the Prophet Muhammad SAWShahifat al-Madinah as a reference for the model of state life at the time of the Prophet Muhammad can be found in two books, namely: the book of Al-Amwal and in the book of sirah nabawiyah ibn Hisham. In previous research, it is stated that in the book of Al-Amwal, although the hadith has a sanad, there are two narrators who are considered weak (mursal), while in the book of Ibn Hisham, there is no sanad. To find out the existence of the contents of the shahifah in the hadith so that it can be used as a guide, it is necessary to study it from the perspective of the hadith. The purpose of this study is to find out the state system in Shahifat al-Madinah and to find out the hadiths containing the texts/manuscripts of Shahifat al-Madinah. This research used a library approach with the method of content analysis (content analysis) on the Shahifat al-Madinah. The results show that the main book 9 encyclopedia can be found in the book Sahih al-Bukhari no. 6756, Sunan Abu Daud no. 2606, Musnad Ahmad Ibn Hambal No. 913, 1231 and 1330, 8808, 9432. However, there are related hadiths in it as follows: Sahih al-Bukhari no. 1737, 1740, 2936, 2943,6258, Sahih Muslim no. 2429, 2433, 2434,2435, 2774, Sunan Tirmidzi no. 2053, Sunan Abu Daud no. 1739, Musnad Imam Ahmad Bin Hanbal no. 581, 986, 6920, 8808, 10384, 13012, 16112

Abstract

Hadiths about Intercession in the Book of Saḥīḥ MuslimThis article discusses the Hadith about syafaat (intercession) in Sahih Muslim using the thematic hadith approach. The term syafaat (intercession) comes from the root word syaf'u or syafā'ah which literally means intercession (help) to convey a request to Allah or mediation, intercession or intermediary between two people. The author traces the hadiths in Sahih Muslim that talk about the topic of intercession, the result is found that in Sahih Muslim this word with its various derivations (isytiqaq) is repeated 38 times spread over 30 hadiths. In terms of structure or form of expression, the terms of intercession that are spread in Sahih Muslim appear at least in five forms of invented words (isytiqaq) each of which implies different meanings. The following article discusses at least seven kinds of expression of syafaat (intercession) with various meanings with various pressures, such as the substance of intercession, the purpose of intercession, the limitations of intercession, the way to obtain intercession, the giver and recipient of intercession, the time of the appearance of intercession, and the conditions for intercession to occur. The elaboration of these topics intends to emphasize the meaning of intercession and the matters related to it..

Hadiths about Gharar in Buying and Selling and the Forms in the Contemporary PeriodThis article examines various hadith (traditions) which talk about the issue of gharar sale (uncertain sale). The research finds out that there are dozens of hadiths which are then reduced to 5 hadiths considered to be representative and focus of the discussion, both in terms of the matn and sanad. This research is thematic, namely the hadiths related to gharar law with sanad and matn criticism approach to get a clear picture of the authenticity of the hadiths understudied. To get a comprehensive understanding of the issue of gharar sale, this paper also develops the research on the form of gharar sale in the contemporary era with a fiqh perspective which is also supported by the arguments found in the Quran. The research finds out that the hadiths which talk about the issue of gharar are categorized as sahih (authentic) with various criteria and therefore can be used as evidence (hujjah) in the making of legal decisions based on Islamic law (istinbath).

Abstract

The Hari Raya Ketupat tradition in Mangga Dua Village, Serdang Bedagai, represents a socioreligious practice that raises questions about the relationship between local culture and Islamic creed. This study aims to examine how Q.S. al-An‘ām: 162 is interpreted to legitimize and transform this tradition within the framework of Living Qur’an studies. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with religious leaders and community members, observation of ritual practices, and textual analysis of Qur’anic verses and Hadith commentaries. The findings show three community interpretations of the ketupat tradition: theo-cultural integration, folk-conformist identity expression, and mytho-symbolic spiritual coping. Religious authorities reinterpret the principle of lillāhi rabbil ‘ālamīn to purify intention (niyyah), shifting ketupat from a myth-laden object into a collective symbol of gratitude. This process produces a hybrid legitimacy model described as “Vessel Culture, Spirit Tauhid,” where tradition functions as a sociocultural medium while theological authority remains centered on Allah SWT. This study contributes by offering an applied model of how Qur’anic interpretation can mediate tensions between culture and creed in Muslim diaspora communities. Practically, the findings support strategies for religious moderation and culturally sensitive da‘wah. Future research can apply this model to other local traditions to explore broader patterns of adaptive Islamic interpretation in multicultural societies.

Abstract

Domestic violence in Muslim family contexts is sometimes reinforced by literalist interpretations of QS. An-Nisāʾ: 34, especially the term ḍarb, which has often been read as permitting physical discipline within marriage. This study aims to reconstruct the meaning of ḍarb in Islamic family law in order to prevent its use as a religious justification for domestic violence. Using a qualitative normative method with a socio-legal orientation, the study examines classical tafsīr, the views of the four Sunni legal schools, Prophetic traditions, and Indonesian legal instruments on domestic violence. The analysis combines uṣūl al-fiqh, maqāṣid-based reasoning, and contextual interpretation to assess whether classical legal meanings remain valid when they produce harm in contemporary family life. The findings show that classical Islamic legal sources did not treat ḍarb as an unrestricted right of husbands. Instead, they placed it under strict limitations, including procedural sequence, non-injury, ethical restraint, and legal accountability. The Prophetic model further shifts the norm toward non-violence, compassion, and protection of dignity. Based on these findings, this study argues that ḍarb should be reconstructed not as physical punishment, but as a restricted and non-violent mechanism of conflict resolution oriented toward reconciliation and harm prevention. The study contributes to Islamic family law reform by offering an uṣūlī–socio-legal framework that can guide religious judges, mediators, family-law institutions, and anti-domestic violence policy in preventing the misuse of religious texts to legitimize violence.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the rapid proliferation of hadith dissemination in the digital era, which has significantly transformed patterns of transmission, religious authority, and public understanding. Social media has become a primary space for circulating hadith, often without adequate scholarly verification. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the dynamics of Living Hadith in the digital age, particularly focusing on hadith circulation, the shift of religious authority, and the challenges of hadith literacy in contemporary society. This research employs a qualitative approach using library research supported by digital document analysis from various social media platforms. Data were collected through literature review and documentation of digital content, and analyzed using content analysis and descriptive-analytical methods. The findings reveal an epistemological transformation in the practice of Living Hadith, where hadith not only exists in social practices but also operates within digital logic shaped by algorithms, popularity, and virality. Furthermore, there is a noticeable shift in religious authority from scholarly-based legitimacy to visibility-based influence. In conclusion, this study emphasizes the urgency of strengthening critical, hermeneutic, and digital hadith literacy to preserve the validity of hadith understanding in the post-truth era.

Abstract

The development of hadith codification in the 3rd to 4th centuries of the Hijri marked an increasingly complex process of systematising the transmission of religious knowledge through various hadith compilations. However, modern hadith studies tend to focus on the criticism of the sanad (chain of transmission) and the evaluation of narrators’ authority. In contrast, the methodological dimensions of compilation methods, thematic organisation, and the practical orientation of hadith compilations are less thoroughly analysed. This gap is particularly evident in studies of the works of 4th-century Hijri scholars who integrated the legitimacy of sanad transmission with the practical needs of the community. This study aims to analyse the methodology of hadith compilation in the works of Ibn Sunnī and to explain how the integration of the legitimacy of sanad transmission and a practical orientation shaped the structure of hadith compilations during that period. The study uses a qualitative approach, with textual analysis and the historiography of hadith, through an examination of the thematic structure of the books, the configuration of the sanad transmission network, and variations in hadith redaction in Ibn Sunnī’s works. The results show that Ibn Sunnī’s compilation methodology exhibits three main characteristics. First, the pattern of hadith transmission relies on a broad and multi-layered network of teachers that strengthens the legitimacy of the sanad and reflects intellectual mobility within the 4th-century AH transmission network. Second, the hadith compilation is structured thematically, with a strong orientation towards worship, prayer, and daily ethics, so that it functions as a practical guide for the religious life of Muslim communities. Third, the text’s editing strategy preserves variations in hadith redactions across different transmission lines, representing the dynamics of transmission in the oral and written traditions. These findings suggest that Ibn Sunnī’s compilation functioned not only as an archive of sanad transmission but also as a pedagogical tool that connects scholarly authority with the religious needs of the community, thus making an important contribution to the understanding of the historiography and methodology of classical hadith compilation
