Abstract

This study was aimed at examining the promotional activities performed by the Tourism of Office of Kampar Regency and to identify the challenges in promoting tourism in Kampar Regency. This qualitative study collected data through interviews with two key informants, namely the Head of Marketing Department and the Head of the Promotion Section. The data was also collected through document review as the secondary data. The analysis results indicate that the promotional activities carried out by the Kampar Regency Tourism Office includes above-the-line and below-the-line media but the promotion through above-the-line media is still very simple. Thus, a more varied promotional media such as digital technology or self-managed websites is needed so that information coverage for the public, investors and tourists will be faster and wider. Moreover, the main challenge for the promotional activities by the Kampar Tourism Office is the lack of annual budgets.

The coastal area has many potential resources whose utilization is not optimal. One potential that must be developed is the potential of human resources, with ability and creativity, humans can create and develop everything that is initially not considered and has a low selling value into something that has high economic value. The strengthening of science and technology aims to motivate rural communities, especially fishermen, to develop creativity so that they can increase the income and welfare of fishing communities. The science and technology strengthening activity was carried out in Pangkalan Jambi Village with two models, namely the application of the Center for Environment and Society Model, namely utilizing the productive use of social capital and environmentally friendly management of fisheries resources. Abstract

Previous studies have explored community participation in ecotourism. However, only a few have addressed indigenous people concerning their participation in ecotourism development, specifically within the context of a national park. Therefore, this study examined how and why indigenous people are participating in ecotourism development by taking a case study of a village in Bukit Tigapuluh National Park, Indonesia. This study collected data through semi-structured interviews and field observations using a qualitative method. Four forms of indigenous people’s participation in ecotourism development are found in this study, including discovering tourist attractions, conserving the forest, working in the ecotourism sites, and managing ecotourism attractions. Furthermore, this study discovered two factors encouraging their participation, i.e., community empowerment by the national park office and perceived positive impacts of ecotourism.

Abstract

Mengkapan Mangrove Ecotourism, located in Siak Regency, Riau Province, was once visited by a large number of visitors soon after it was opened for public in 2015. Nevertheless, since the beginning of 2016, the number of visitors has been drastically dropped. One of the causes of this unfortunate condition is that there is no established planning to guide the development of the mangrove ecotourism. Therefore, this study was aimed to formulate strategies for developing the Mengkapan Mangrove Ecotourism by using the SWOT analysis. The data was collected through conducting interviews with related stakeholders, distributing questionnaires to them, and performing field observations. The collected data was then analyzed inductively to capture the key strategy alternatives. Based on the results of SPACE Matrix and SWOT Matrix, this study formulates the following priority strategies: diversifying tourist attractions and promoting them massively by using online media, creating tour packages, and making a cooperation with travel agents.
