Abstract

This paper examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and World Health Organization (WHO) information dissemination through Twitter on the exchange rates of Southeast Asian countries. The study utilizes a VAR model for analysis, incorporating daily positive cases and the percentage of tweets with positive sentiment as proxies for the pandemic and WHO information, respectively. The VAR models are employed for forecasting and estimating impulse response functions (IRF) and forecast error variance decomposition (FEVD). The forecasting performance is evaluated using mean absolute error (MAE), root-mean-square error (RMSE), and R2 metrics, revealing that only Cambodia possesses a reliable forecasting model. The IRF analysis demonstrates varying effects of the pandemic and WHO information across different countries, while the FEVD results indicate distinct contributions of the pandemic and WHO information in each Southeast Asian country. Additionally, the FEVD analysis reveals that exchange rates are mostly influenced by their own past behavior. Overall, this study provides insights into the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and WHO information on exchange rates in Southeast Asia.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze factors that influence maximum heart rate using a non-parametric statistical analysis approach, which is flexible in analyzing data with unknown or non-normal distributions. Factors analyzed include resting electrocardiogram (ECG) examination results, type of chest pain, and blood pressure. Respondents were classified based on these factors to facilitate analysis. Methods used in this study included the Expanded Median Test (K-Sample), Pearson Correlation Test, and Kruskal-Wallis Test, which were chosen because they were appropriate for the type of data and the objectives of the study that involved testing the median between multiple groups. Results showed that ECG and chest pain type significantly influenced maximum heart rate, while blood pressure did not show a significant effect. The main contribution of this study is that it provides an empirical basis for detecting modifiable cardiovascular risk factors, supporting heart attack prevention efforts through early detection, and directing further research for a more comprehensive analysis.

Abstract

Keeping employees engaged is strategically important. This paper analyzes the drivers of employee engagement from the point of view of organizational support for employee well-being. The article contains an analysis of data of 509 respondents from a faithbased higher education in Indonesia, conducted through PLS structural equation modeling analysis. The result indicates that the organization support in terms of organization internal communication, performance-based reward and recognition, and perceived organization support on holistic employee subjective well-being has a direct positive influence on employee engagement. The perceived organization support on holistic employee subjective well-being played a mediating role between employee engagement and teamwork dynamic, supervisor support, and work environment. The findings imply theory and practice especially in enhancing employee engagement experience through organizational support. For future research, we suggest including more various organizations and industries to better understand the variable interdependencies in various contexts.

Abstract

Economic growth in Southeast Asia is influenced by a variety of macroeconomic variables, with inflation and interest rates being two of the most crucial. This study aims to examine the impact of inflation and interest rates on the economic growth (measured by GDP) of ten Southeast Asian countries from 2007 to 2023. Using a panel data regression approach, the analysis applies several econometric models including Pooled OLS, Fixed Effects Model, Random Effects Model, and spatial econometric models (Spatial Autoregressive Model/SAR and Spatial Error Model/SEM) to determine the most suitable model for the data. The results show that interest rates have a significant negative effect on GDP growth, suggesting that higher interest rates tend to reduce economic activity in the region. Inflation, while showing a weaker relationship, also negatively affects GDP in most models. Spatial analysis further reveals the presence of spatial dependence among Southeast Asia countries, indicating that the economic performance of one country is not isolated but affected by its neighbors. Among the models tested, the Spatial Error Model (SEM) is found to be the best fit based on statistical criteria, highlighting the importance of unobserved regional factors and spatial spillover effects. Policy implications include the need for coordinated regional monetary policies, maintaining inflation within manageable limits, and enhancing economic cooperation among Southeast Asia nations. While the R-squared values are relatively low, the statistical significance of the core variables underscores their relevance. This study contributes to the broader understanding of macroeconomic management and regional economic integration in Southeast Asia.
