Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan flashcard film dalam bahasa inggris dapat meningkatkan kosa kata young learners, dan untuk mengetahui aspek kosa kata mana yang mengalami peningkatan tertinggi dalam penggunaannya. Pendektayan penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif. Tes kosa kata digunakan sebagai instrument pengambilan data dalam penelitian ini. Subjek penelitian adalah anak 6-8 tahun pada siswa sekolah dasar di Bangkinang Kota. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan dalam pencapaian kosa kata siswa setelah mempelajari kosa kata bahasa inggris dengan menggunakan flashcard. Diharapkan flashcard dapat bermanfaat untuk meningkatkan pencapaian kosa kata siswa.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dimana letak kesulitan belajar dan faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan kesulitan belajar mata kuliah bahasa inggris yang dialami oleh mahasiswa. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan agar kemampuan bahasa inggris lebih baik dan proses perkuliahan lebih bermakna. Subjek penelitian yang diambil yaitu mahasiswa pendidikan matematika semester ganjil tahun pelajaran 2017/2018. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah metode dokumentasi, metode tes, metode observasi dan metode wawancara. Metode dokumentasi digunakan untuk memperoleh data tentang daftar nama mahasiswa yang dijadikan susbjek penelitian. Metode tes digunakan untuk memperoleh data penyelesaian mahasiswa pada mata kuliah bahasa inggris, metode observasi digunakan untuk mengetahui kondisi objektif saat kegiatan belajar mengajar bahasa inggris dan untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor yang dapat mempengaruhi proses pembelajaran. Metode wawancara dilakukan untuk mengetahui secara jelas permasalahan yang dihadapi mahasiswa ketika belajar mata kuliah bahasa inggris. Letak kesulitan mahasiswa dalam belajar bahasa inggris yaitu pada kemampuan antara lain kemampuan speaking dan kemampuan listening. Kesulitan yang paling tinggi dialami oleh siswa adalah pada kemampuan listening yaitu dengan nilai rata-rata 58,33 dengan 84% mahasiswa belum mampu menjawab soal dengan benar. Kesulitan yang kedua dialami oleh mahasiswa yaitu pada kemampuan speaking dengan nilai rata-rata 61,25 dengan persentase 50% mahasiswa belum mampu menjawab soal dengan benar. Adapu faktor-faktor mahasiswa mengalami kesulitan dalam proses perkuliahan bahasa inggris adalah: (1) Kurangnya parktik bahasa inggris oleh mahsiswa; (2) Kurangnya praktik bahasa inggris dalam interaksi proses perkuliahan; (3) Mahasiswa tidak mau bertanya kepada dosen jika megalami kesulitan; (4) Mahasiswa tidak mencatat penjelasan dari dosen; (5) Mahasiswa tidak aktif dalam menjawab pertanyaan dosen atau mahasiswa tidak mengungkapkan pendapatnya kepada dosen.

Abstract

The Peer Assessment Technique provides an opportunity for individuals to evaluate each other, and encourages lifelong learning and continuous improvement. Moreover, this current study aims to investigate the impact and influence of the Peer Assessment Technique on students' writing skills. Besides, the first-year students in the odd semester of 2023/2024 who attended the writing class were selected as the research sample using the simple random sampling technique. The Peer Assessment Technique was used as a treatment in the experimental class. Then, the scores from the students' post-test were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test to see the significance between the two classes. As a result, the data analysis showed that the Z score was negative (-4.161.) which indicated that an alternate hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, and the null hypothesis (H0) was definitely rejected. At the same time, the Peer Assessment Technique is considered to have a notable for its impacts on promoting students' writing skills since it has promoted a more efficient and quality-oriented learning environment.

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to find out the idiomatic expression and to find out the contextual meaning of idiom expression which are used in Adele’s lyrics song. The technique of analyzing the data the researcher used descriptive qualitative. Qualitative research referred to the meaning, concepts, definitions, symbols and description of the things. There are 56 idiomatic expression found in 3 types of idiom those are Phrasal verb idiom, Tournure idiom and Irreversible Binomial idiom. Whereas another idiom could not be found by the researcher during the analysis. This research found the menaing of idiom expression moast as a contextual meaning. The researcher hopes that’s this thesis will be useful for both theoretical and practical source in learning how to translate English Idiom and also for those who conduct further study about analysis of idiomatic expression.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an English teaching module that is effective and in accordance with the needs of upper secondary level students. The research method used is Research and Development with Plomp model (Preliminary Investigation, Design, Realization/Construction, Test, Evaluation, and Revision, Implementation and Dissemination). At the analysis stage, a survey of student needs and analysis of the applicable curriculum were conducted. The design stage involves the preparation of the module framework and learning materials in accordance with the results of the analysis. Module development is done by designing materials, exercises, and evaluations that are interactive and interesting for students.The developed module is then implemented in the classroom to test its effectiveness. Evaluation was conducted through pre-test and post-test as well as student satisfaction questionnaire on the module. The results showed that the developed teaching module could significantly improve students' reading comprehension and ability. In addition, students showed positive responses to the use of this module, which included increased learning motivation and active involvement in the learning process.Thus, this reading English module can be used as an alternative teaching material that is effective in improving students' English reading comprehension at the upper secondary level. This research is expected to make a positive contribution in the development of teaching materials that are innovative and in accordance with the development of the education curriculum.

Abstract

This experimental research was carried out in eighth grade at MTs Muhammadiyah Tanjung Belit Airtiris. This research aims to determine the effect of the Matching Word Game on students' vocabulary mastery. This research methodology uses a quasi-experimental design. The sample for this research was class VII A as the experimental class and VII B as the control class. The experimental class consists of 17 students and the control class consists of 17 students. The instrument used in the research was a vocabulary test. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 25 program. Based on the research results, the average student score in the experimental class was 65.15 and 52.15 in the control class. Data analysis shows significance (2-tailed) 0000 < 0.05, which means Ha is accepted. It can be concluded that there is an influence on the use of the Matching Word Game on students' vocabulary mastery. Keywords: Vocabulary Mastery, Quasi Experimental, Matching Word Game.
