Abstract

This experimental research intended to examine the effects of the Bits and Pieces game on students’ achievement in the writing report text. Sixty-eight students in the tenth grade participated in an experimental class taught through the Bits and pieces game. The participants in the control class taught through the Conventional teaching method. After the treatment was done, the students in both grades were tested. As the results, the mean average showed that there was an increase in writing scores. Additionally, the score in the experimental class showed that the Bits and Pieces game was adequate to be taught. Nevertheless, the score in the control class showed that the Conventional teaching method was not effective to be taught because there was no significant difference between the score in the pre-test and post-test. Furthermore, learning through the Bits and Pieces game encourages students’ broader skills of cooperation and negotiation.

Abstract

In the research, the students had problem in writing skill of descriptive text. The aims of this research are to improve students’ writing descriptive text by using Bits and Pieces Game and to find out what factors that influenced the changing of students’ writing skill in descriptive text for students at the VIII 6 Grade of SMPN 1 Tambusai. This research is a Classroom Action Research. The instruments of this research were test, observation, field note, and interview. The participants in this research were the students’ at eighth 6 class consisted of 29 students. The result of this research were Bits and Pieces Game approach could better improve the students’ writing skill in descriptive text at eighth 6 class of SMPN 1 Tambusai. In the based score it showed that their average score was 46.07. It improved to 70.12 in cycle Iand 79.75 in cycle II. The Factors that influenced were Bits and Pieces Game approach assisted almost all meeting that made students were interested in the strategy. In conclusion, Bits and Pieces Game approach can improve students’ writing skill in descriptive text at VIII 6 Grade of SMPN 1 Tambusai.Key words: Bits and Pieces Game strategy, Writing, and Descriptive.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the problem of Engineering Drawing Lectures which are still focused on lecturers, student knowledge about Engineering Drawings is still low because many student learning outcomes do not meet the criteria. Therefore, it is necessary to apply the lecture model so that Engineering Drawing lectures can increase. The model applied is Problem Based Instruction. The purpose of this study was to improve student learning outcomes in the first semester of Engineering Drawing courses. This type of research is Quasi Experimental with one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects in this study were first semester students of the Automotive Technology Vocational Education Study Program at Lancang Kuning University who were enrolled in the 2022/2023 academic year as many as 32 students. Collecting data in this study using pretest and posttest learning outcomes. Data were analyzed using Gain Score. Based on the research results, the average pretest score was 65.75 and the posttest score was 86.50. From the calculation of the Gain Score <g> is 0.557 in the medium category using the Problem Based Instruction (PBI) lecture model for the Engineering Drawing course in the Automotive Technology Vocational Education Study Program, Lancang Kuning University.

Abstract

This research analyze and describe the quality of the English textbook in term of the activities provided by this book. The object of this research was the Bahasa Inggris Maritim dan Perikanan textbook for 10th grade students published by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture. The current research was conducted to analyze the need of suitable and comprehensive learning materials for English for Specific Purpose (ESP) Class. This research used an analysis format as the instrument to guide the researcher in analyzing the English textbook. The analysis format contained of six categories which was made based on the principles of a good textbook proposed by the experts those are readiness activities, experiential activities, intake response activities, development activity 1, input response activity, and development activity 2. The result of this research showed that this English textbook for maritime students published by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture can be categorized as good textbook since all of the criteria was found in this book. Meanwhile, there are two categories that were rarely found and need to be revised in this textbook; development activity 1 and development activity 2. However, the other criteria had enough number as the activities provided by this book.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are one of many skills that should be acquired by students in the 2013 curriculum, and it allows students to be able to think critically in learning. However, the delicacy of the learning methods or models used in biology learning was found since the teacher mostly used lecture methods and assignments. In order to overcome these problems and achieve educational goals, the role of teachers who acquire appropriate learning methods and models according to the subject they teach is very important, and the Contextual Teaching and Learning is one of many appropriate methods that can be used. Therefore, this study aims at determining the impact of the Contextual Teaching and Learning regarding to students’ critical thinking skills at Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri (SMAN) 16 Pekanbaru. Moreover, a quantitative research was used as the method of the research. According to the data analysis, it was found that the average score of the critical thinking test in the control class was 2.33 and it was classified into moderate. In other hand, and the average score in the experimental class was 2.53 and it was categorized as high. As a result, the Contextual Teaching and Learning was able to give siginificant influence related to students critical Thinking Skills. This was occured since the method is focused on describing the competencies that teachers should achieve first at the beginning of learning.

Abstract

Seiring berjalannya waktu, peralihan pemberian layanan penyandang disabilitas diawali dengan model pelayanan tradisional yakni secara sukarela, yang melalui beberapa proses transisi sehingga mencapai model pelayanan inklusif dengan inclusive development – inclusive society (Santoso & Apsari, 2017). Model inklusif ini terbentuk demi mencapai kesetaraan hidup penyandang disabilitas dalam setiap segi kehidupan, salah satunya dalam menempuh pendidikan. Melalui pendidikan, manusia dapat memperoleh bekal berupa ilmu yang berguna dalam menghadapi era globalisasi sebagai wadah perkembangan IPTEK. Salah satu keterampilan yang dapat diberikan kepada anak berkebutuhan khusus yaitu pelatihan servis ringan sepeda motor. Metode yang digunakan adalah pelatihan yang bersifat langsung dan praktek. Tahapan kegiatan yang dilakukan terdiri dari tahap analisis situasi (observasi lapangan dan wawancara), tahap persiapan kegiatan (proposal kegiatan), dan tahap pelaksanaan (pelatihan dan evaluasi). Pelatihan dilaksanakan dalam satu kali pertemuan dan berjalan dengan lancar. Hasil pengabdian dilihat dari tingkat pemahaman peserta mengenai penerapan servis ringan sepeda motor di SLB Negeri Pembina Pekanbaru sebelum dan sesudah diberikan pelatihan. Dari hasil analisis, tim pengabdian menilai tingkat pemahaman siswa sebelum penyampaian materi berada pada kategori cukup, dengan angka persentase 53.71%. Peningkatan yang cukup signifikan setelah pelatihan (kategori baik) ditunjukkan dari angka persentase 77.20%. Secara umum dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa tingkat pemahaman siswa tentang penerapan servis ringan sepeda motor di SLB Negeri Pembina Pekanbaru sebelum dengan sesudah pelatihan mengalami peningkatan.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the school readiness in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum in the Year   2022/2023 at several SMA/SMK in Pekanbaru City. This study used a descriptive quantitative with a survey metod. Data collection techniques are carried out using questionnaires and observations, with a sample of 32 SMA/SMK selected through a purposive sampling technique. Data analysis techniques using descriptive analysis according to the variables that had been determined. Based on the research results show that the school's understanding  of the Merdeka Curriculum was very high, reaching 94%. In total, 81% of SMA / SMK have met the requirements and have been appointed by the  Indonesian Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Mendikbudristek) to implement the Merdeka Curriculum. Teachers' competence in supporting the Merdeka Curriculum reached 75%. In terms of students’ participation in effective learning, it is not optimal since it reached only 16%. It is necessary to improve policy and procedural support, around 62% stated this. However, only 56% of schools use learning modules from the Mendikbudristek. Besides, the use of the Minimum Competency Assessment (MCA) and Character Survey also reached 56%, while the use and preparation of  independence learning lesson plans reached 62%. In conclusion, a number of challenges remain in the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in SMA/SMK, especially related to infrastructure, student participation, and policy support, but it has also achieved some level of success in terms of teacher competence and the use of teaching materials.

Abstract

This study aims to highlight and evaluate the issues at an in-depth level to provide different solutions that are expected to be a reflection for the government, especially the Ministry of Education and Culture, to be able to improve the implementation and monitoring of the Kampus Mengajar Program. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, and the data were collected from a focus group discussion with students of the English Education Study Program at Universitas Lancang Kuning, then the data was analyzed descriptively. The results highlight some problems in the implementation of the Kampus Merdeka Program. These included a lack of coordination and clear communication between stakeholders, which led to confusion among students and schools, uneven targeting of schools, inadequate support for the program, and credit conversion, resulting in frustration and challenges. Addressing these issues, the study recommended increased socialization of the program, transparency in credit equivalency, and more accurate school data collection. In conclusion, this research offers several solutions that are expected to reflect the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) that the Kampus Mengajar Program faces various challenges in its implementation, which need to be addressed for the program to effectively meet its goal of improving education in the 3T areas.

Abstract

The Peer Assessment Technique provides an opportunity for individuals to evaluate each other, and encourages lifelong learning and continuous improvement. Moreover, this current study aims to investigate the impact and influence of the Peer Assessment Technique on students' writing skills. Besides, the first-year students in the odd semester of 2023/2024 who attended the writing class were selected as the research sample using the simple random sampling technique. The Peer Assessment Technique was used as a treatment in the experimental class. Then, the scores from the students' post-test were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test to see the significance between the two classes. As a result, the data analysis showed that the Z score was negative (-4.161.) which indicated that an alternate hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, and the null hypothesis (H0) was definitely rejected. At the same time, the Peer Assessment Technique is considered to have a notable for its impacts on promoting students' writing skills since it has promoted a more efficient and quality-oriented learning environment.

Abstract

The habit of reading should be introduced to children at an early age for them to continue reading throughout their lives. A well-planned and facilitated program for habituating readers is therefore necessary. This Community Service activities aim to provide assistance for the development of the Class Reading Corner Program at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Muhammadiyah 01 Pekanbaru. Following a review of the school's problems regarding the lack of reading corners, a limited number of children's reading books, and the lack of governance of class reading corners, these activities were carried out based on the results of an analysis of these problems. As part of this program, 48 sets of children's picture books were handed over, including mini bookshelves. The program also socialized development of reading corner program and made a simulation of making picture books involving 14 teachers, 1 administrative staff, and 1 headmaster. This program employed a direct observation and questionnaire for the evaluation. The observation showed that three classroom reading corners are present and in use at the school. A satisfaction level of 89.6% was obtained from activity participants after analyzing the questionnaire, an increase of 29.20% over that obtained prior to socialization and simulation. Furthermore, 93.75 % of the participants wanted a reading corner and 100% indicated that there was a need to enhance or improve its quality. The results from these studies suggest that this mentoring program has achieved a positive effect by raising awareness of the importance of increased reading proficiency in schools.
