Abstract

Elderly phase is the final process of human age in growth and development. Aging is a change that impacts physical and cognitive functions. The decrease of cognitive functions can interfere with all activities of the elderly. The objective of this research is to investigate the effects of brain gym and coloring pictures on the cognitive functions of the elderly. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test without a control group. Purposive sampling was applied to select the respondents at an elderly nursing home. The total sample was 30 respondents that included 15 respondents of the brain gym intervention group and 15 respondents of the coloring picture intervention group. The results showed that there was no significant difference in cognitive function before and after the intervention given to the coloring picture group with the p-value 0.414> α (0.05). Meanwhile, there was a significant difference in cognitive function before and after the intervention given to the brain gym group with the p-value 0.025 <α (0.05). The management of nursing home should provide the brain gym activities to improve the cognitive functions of the elderly.Keywords: The elderly, brain gym, coloring pictures.

Abstract

Perubahan pola tidur dan istirahat pada lansia dapat mempengaruhi daya tahan tubuh dan imunitas. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) Terhadap Insomnia Pada Lansia Selama Masa Pandemik Covid 19 Di Panti Jompo Harapan Kita Km 6,5 Palembang. Metode yang di gunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dengan desain Quasy Exsperiment Pre Post Test. Hasil dari karakteristik responden menunjukan usia responden rata- rata 69 tahun. Jenis kelamin didominasi oleh perempuan sebanyak 19 responden (57,6%) dan laki-laki berjumlah 14 responden (66,7%). Sedangkan untuk tingkat insomnia sebelum diberikan intervensi responden terbanyak dengan insomnia ringan sebanyak 18 (54.5%), dan tingkat insomnia setelah diberikan intervensi mengalami perubahan dengan responden terbanyak pada tingkat insomnia ringan yaitu 28 (84,8%). Hasil analisis bivariate menunjukan bahwa setelah diberikan intervensi PMR sebanyak 8 kali selama 15-20 menit didapatkan hasil bahwa tingkat insomnia menurun sebanyak 11, meningkat tidak ada, dan tingkat insomnia tidak berubah sebanyak 22 responden, dengan signifikasi 0,001. Kata kunci: Insomnia, lansia , Progressive Muscle Relaxation .
