Abstract

This research aimed to know the increasing students’ writing ability in descripitive and recount text through Interactive Writing Model at the first grade SMAN 1 ENREKANG. The method of this research was pre-experimental research. The sample of this research. The sample of this research consisted of experiment class. Namely class X IPA 5 was 30 students. In the class used Interactive Writing Model. The sample was taken by Random Sampling Technique. Based on the findings, it was found that the value of t-test in writing is descriptive text is greater than the ratio on t-table (3.770) > (2.756) and in recount text t-test is greater than ratio on t-table also (5.420) > (2.756). Based on the table it can be conclude that the alternative hypothesis is accepted. It means that there was increased in the students’ writing descriptive and recount text before and after gave treatment used interactive writing model. Therefore, that result of the pre-test and post-test was significance different. Based on the descriptive, the pre-test and post-test prove the post-test is higher. Based on the explanation, Interactive Writing Model can increase the students’ writing ability in descriptive and recount text.

Abstract

This study aimed at finding out: 1. How are the students’ performance on the use of coordinating conjunction, 2. how are the students performance on the use subordinating conjunction. The method in this research was descriptive quantitative, the reseacher chooses subject class C by the fifth-semenster studnets of English Department from Muhammadiyah University of Makassar, consisting of twenty students. To got the data of this research were collected through tests and interviews by google form.The test results from students, that students know better the use of coordinating conjunction, many students answer correctly with an average highest score of 670, but the students difficult to distinguish the use of conjunction which has the same meaning, like but and yet, also for and because. for subordinating conjunction. shows, the students low understand the use of that conjunctions, many students answer incorrectly, expecially conjunction althogh, after and where. an average highest score of 605, the students still confused the function of that conjunction itself.

Abstract

This study aimed at finding out: (1) What are the students’ difficulties on the use of adjective phrase in writing English text, (2) What are the factors that make students difficult in writing adjective phrase. The method of this research was descriptive quantitative method. Based on the results researcher found the students’ difficulties on the use adjective phrases those are intralingua error and interlingua error. Intralingua error consisted of 41 items or,87.23% students have difficulty in intralingua errors, while interlingua error consisted of 6 items or 12.76% students have difficulty in interlingua errors. Based on the types of adjective phrases, there were 12 items or 25.53% of students have difficulty using predicative adjectives and there were 35 items or 74.46% of students having difficulty using attributive adjectives. The factors that make difficult for students to write adjective phrases in writing are grammatical weaknesses, knowledge, understanding, lack of training and educational background. It can be concluded that there were two students’ difficulty on the use of adjective phrase and 4 factors that make students difficult to make adjective phrase.

Abstract

The aimed of this research was to find out the improve of students’ speaking ability by using Mobile Video Task that focused on students’ fluency at the Eleventh Grade of SMKN 1 Kempo. The researcher used Pre-experimental Design with one group pre-test and post-test, and data collection based on the test. The sample of this research was class XI which consisted of 20 students. The sample was taken by using Purposive Sampling Technique. The research findings showed that the students’ difference before and after using mobile video task was significantly different. The students’ pre-test mean score in term of fluency was 65.15 to be 75.45 in post-test. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that mobile video task technique was effective to improve the speaking ability of the students at the Eleventh Grade of SMKN1 Kempo in the Academic Year 2020/2021.

Abstract

This research aimed to found what types of cohesion that commonly used by the English department students of University of Muhammadiyah Makassar in their descriptive text and to find out how is the students ability in making their text coherence. This research used descriptive research. Purposive sampling technique was applied to select the sample. The population of this sample was the third semester students of English department in Muhammdiyah University of Makassar. The number of sample was one class that is consists of 13 students. The data obtained by giving a writing test to the student. The research findings showed that the students used 82% reference in their descriptive text and followed by conjunction in 15.1% , while ellipsis and substitution only 1.21% used by the student. Thus, 41% students already in a good level of writing ability even there are still some mistakes and followed by 33% of student already got out standing level that means they already can make their text correctly coherence and there are 23% students still need to improved their skill so they can make their text coherence.

Abstract

This research method is descriptive qualitative. In compiling the data, the researcher conducted interviews and observations. In this study, 42 third-semester students of the Department of English Education at the Alauddin State Islamic University in Makassar were the research subjects. In addition, four students were interviewed, and 42 students were observed during the speaking class.The results showed that: 1) There are several classifications of cognitive strategies used by students in learning to speak, namely practicing, receiving and sending messages, analyzing and reasoning, and structuring input and output. In practice, students use repetition, apply rules of pronunciation, rules of grammar are too seldom used. Then, during receiving and sending messages, students need to think for a moment before giving their ideas. Next during receiving and sending messages, students need to think for a minute before providing their idea. Furthermore, while the strategy of analyzing and reasoning, students apply to analyze expressions, translating, and contrasting what they learn. The final cognitive strategy is to create structures for input and output. Students usually get notes and shorten the material. 2) Cognitive strategies have a positive effect on students' speaking performance

Abstract

This research aimed at finding out students’ speaking ability using shadowing techniques at the First Grade of SMAN 2 Sidrap This research uses pre-experimental research. Researcher have conducted treatment consisting of six meetings. The population of this research is the first-grade students at SMAN 2 Sidrap. Researcher used purposive sampling technique. The research instrument was a speaking test. The research findings indicated that achievement of the first grade of SMAN 2 Sidrap was improved after using shadowing techniques. It was proven by mean score in terms of content in pre-test was 58 and post-test was 77. The improvement of the content was 0.020%. It means that there was significant difference between post-test and pre-test. Based on the research finding, the researcher concluded that teaching English by using shadowing techniques could improve the students’ Speaking ability.
