Abstract

As the application of the four competencies for the lecturers in teaching and learning, it becomes a new business for them to fulfill those competencies (pedagogical professional, personality, social). This has an impact on the provision of a new method for students in learning activities so that a teacher would be able to develop a curriculum in accordance with the respective educational unit and the local needs of each student. The first pedagogical competence deals with the ability of a lecturer in managing the classroom and facilitates the students' diversity. Sometimes lecturers apply different pedagogic actions with students' perceptions so that what is they supposed good by lecturers sometimes inversely with students' intake. The aim of this study was to facilitate the perception of the students in regard to the pedagogical action of a good lecturer. The result supposed to be a consideration from the lecturer in applied pedagogical action in the classroom.

Abstract

This study is aimed at investigating the teachers’ perception on the use of teaching media in English classroom. This study involved 25 English teachers selected from elementary school, junior high school, senior high school and vocational high school with 4-11 years of teaching experience. The instruments used in this study was questionnaire that consists of 20 items. The findings indicated that the intended perception of teachers includes the concept of applying media, the type of media used, the obstacles faced and how they arrange learning media according to the characteristics of the students. The findings also showed that the teacher prioritized aspects of appearance, usability and adjustment to learning objectives and students’ characteristics. The media they use in English language learning tends to be visual and audio-based media. Meanwhile, the use of audio-visual media still experiences obstacles in terms of mastering the technology owned by most of them. The obstacles they face in the use of learning media are related to the lack of facilities, inadequate electricity supply and internet network.

Abstract

This research is based on the students’ problem regards English especially on vocabulary. Vocabulary is the important thing for students in the process of acquiring, learning, mastering, and using the language they learn. Without having vocabulary nothing can be convey. Mastering vocabulary will help the students to communicate easier with other people. Those reason become some of the considerations of the researcher to conduct a research when doing an observation at SMK Bahari Parepare because the students showed their limited of vocabulary. Then, modifying the method could be the problem solving for the limited vocabulary. in this case, the implementation of word wall as an media was suggested to overcome the problem. Finally, this research was intended to reveal that: can the role of internal memory by using word wall improve the vocabulary of the eleventh grade students of SMK Bahari Parepare significantly. This research used quasi experimental method, with two group pre-test and post-test design. The population was the eleventh grade students of SMK Bahari Parepare. The samples were drawn by using random sampling technique that consisted of 45 students which were class XI Teknika A as experimental class and class XI Nautika as control class. The data were acquired by using vocabulary test. The vocabulary mastery test was applied in the pre-test and post-test. The data required from vocabulary test was analyzed by using ttest and percentage technique. The result of the data analysis showed that the students’ vocabulary mastery improved significantly. It was showed by the mean score of the pretest was (56.19) and the post-test was (76.904). It showed that word wall can improve vocabulary of the eleventh grade students of SMK Bahari Parepare significantly. Besides, the mean score of the students in post-test (76.904) was higher than the standard scoring Departemen Pendidikan Nasional Republik Indonesia (70.00). After analyzing the data by using the t-test formula, the result of t-test value in post-test was (2.147) and t-table value was (2.021). Those indicated that H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected. It meant that word wall can improve vocabulary of the eleventh grade students of SMK Bahari Parepare significantly.

Abstract

This research was conducted to obtain the Perception of the use of VLOG in learning process in English Education Study Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Parepare. This research also conducted to obtain the effects caused by VLOG as a new platform to practice speaking based on their perception. This study uses Qualitative Descriptive by design conducted with students. The population of this study is English Department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Parepare. The participant of this study consist of eight participants. In addition, the researcher conducted interview with 2 Vlogger as a proven of the effect of VLOG based on their personal experiences. The result of this study showed that VLOG is needed in language learning as a media for students to practice speaking in an interesting way. Students assumed that VLOG can help them especially in pronouncing word and decrease their anxiety. Nonetheless, it was undeniable that there are several stdents who are not suitable to use VLOG to practice speaking. Furthermore, VLOG has several advantages and disadvantages if applied in learning process.

Abstract

In English Learning Teaching (ELT), digital photographs are considered acompelling visual medium to help students write English texts. A writing skillis a capacity to convert ideas into complete, comprehensive and understandablesentences that may be used to convey those ideas to the reader effectively. Thepurpose of this research is to find out whether using digital photographs canimprove students’ skills in writing descriptive texts or not. The researchers useda descriptive quantitative pre-experimental method by applying digital picturesto teach writing descriptive text. The sample of this research consists of thirtystudents at SMP Negeri 1 Pangsid, South Sulawesi. The result shows thatstudents’ writing skills increased by using digital photographs. The results areindicated by the mean value of the pretest (44,73) and the posttest (82,93). Aftercalculating the t-test, the researchers found that the null hypothesis (H0) wasrejected, and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. Using digitalphotographs as a teaching and learning medium can improve students’ skills nwriting descriptive texts. In other words, this medium eases the students inconstructing their ideas through descriptive essays.
