Abstract

This research concerns the common problem of edge detection that produces a disjointed and incomplete edge, leading to the misdetection of visual objects. The entropy-based algorithm can potentially solve this problem by classifying the pixel belonging to which objects in an image. Hence, the paper aims to evaluate the performance of entropy-based algorithm to produce the closed-loop edge representing the formation of object boundary. The research utilizes the concept of Entropy to sense the uncertainty of pixel membership to the existing objects to classify pixels as the edge or object. Six entropy-based algorithms are evaluated, i.e., the optimum Entropy based on Shannon formula, the optimum of relative-entropy based on Kullback-Leibler divergence, the maximum of optimum entropy neighbor, the minimum of optimum relative-entropy neighbor, the thinning of optimum entropy neighbor, and the thinning of optimum relative-entropy neighbor. The experiment is held to compare the developed algorithms against Canny as a benchmark by employing five performance parameters, i.e., the average number of detected objects, the average number of detected edge pixels, the average size of detected objects, the ratio of the number of edge pixel per object, and the average of ten biggest sizes. The experiment shows that the entropy-based algorithms significantly improve the production of closed-loop edges, and the optimum of relative-entropy neighbor based on Kullback-Leibler divergence becomes the most desired approach among others due to the production of more considerable closed-loop edge in the average. This finding suggests that the entropy-based algorithm is the best choice for edge-based segmentation. The effectiveness of Entropy in the segmentation task is addressed for further research.

Abstract

The decrease and reduction of vegetation land or forest area over time has become a serious and significant problem to be considered. Increasing the Earth’s temperature is a consequence of deforestation, which can contribute to climate change. The other issues that researchers face concern diversity and various objects in satellite imagery that may be difficult for computers to identify using traditional methods. This research aims to develop a model that can classify vegetation land cover areas on high-resolution images. The data used is sourced from the ISPRS (International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing) Vaihingen. The model used is a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) with a VGG16-Net Encoder architecture. Tests were conducted on eight scenarios with training and test data ratios of 80:20% and 70:30%. The classifier method that we employed in this research is argmax and threshold. We also compared the performance of Neural Networks with two hidden layers and three hidden layers to investigate the impact of adding another layer on the Neural Network's performance in classifying vegetation land cover areas. The results show that using the threshold classifier method can save training time compared to the argmax method. By increasing the number of hidden layers in the neural network, model performance improves, as shown by increases in recall, accuracy, and F1-score metrics. However, there is a slight decrease in the precision metric. The model achieved its best performance with a precision (Pre) of 99.5%, accuracy (Acc) of 83.3%, and F1-score (Fs) of 70.3%, requiring a training time (T-time) of 16 minutes and 41 seconds and an inference time (I-time) of 0.1535 seconds.

Abstract

E-commerce has become an integral part of how people shop, with the rise of customer reviews on various platforms. These reviews provide important insights into product, customer service, and delivery. The growing volume of e-commerce reviews makes manual sorting time-consuming and error-prone for business owners. This study aims to classify e-commerce reviews into three categories: product, customer service, and delivery. The data was collected from e-commerce customer reviews on Tokopedia and labeled using crowdsourcing for ground truth. To classify the reviews, a Neural Network is performed with various numbers of node and learning rate. TF-IDF is also used for feature extraction to capture important features from the review data. From nine test scenarios, model B3 with 50 nodes in the first hidden layer and a learning rate of 0.1 provided the best performance with an accuracy of 65.85%, precision of 62.27%, recall of 58.61%, and f1-score of 59.71%. Validation using K-Fold Cross Validation shows an average accuracy of 64.17% at k=10. Word analysis with TF-IDF identified dominant words in each category. The B3 model is not yet able to classify reviews perfectly, due to the large and unbalanced dataset, less complex model architecture, and less effective TF-IDF preprocessing. However, this study shows potential for better classification in the future. With optimization, this model can be very useful for e-commerce business owners to gain insight from customer reviews and can help them to identify aspects that will lead to customer satisfaction and trust.
