Abstract

This research is motivated by crisis, especially of UGM (Universitas Gadjah Mada) identity andof philosophical foundations of its scientific development. This study aims to inventory, analyzesynthesize, critically evaluate, as well as construct a philosophical foundation of scientific development originating in UGM values. The study employs a reflective, systematic philosophical research model.Data consists mainly of documents data, supported by field data collected through participantobservation and in-depth interviews. Material objects of research are values contained in the university’slegal basis or statute, symbols of its identity attributes, and thoughts of its leaders, while formal objectof research is philosophy, particularly philosophy of values (axiology) and philosophy of science. Datawill be analyzed using elements of methodical study of philosophy, especially interpretive analysis in aheuristic framework to come to conclusion.The results show that: First, history of ideas indicates that GMU scholars have proposed andjustified concept and model of scientific development based on GMU (Gadjah Mada University)values, that is the concept of “Pancasila as (1) guidance (2) orientation and (3) paradigm of scientificand technological development.” Scientific models that were successfully developed are (1) Pancasilaicscience and knowledge and Science of State and Law of Pancasila (Ilmu Negara dan Hukum Pancasila)by Notonagoro; (2) Pancasila Economics (Ilmu Ekonomi Pancasila) by Mubyarto; and (3) PropheticSocial Science (Ilmu Sosial Profetis) by Kuntowijoyo. Second, the concept of scientific developmentdeveloped by GMU-based scholars is actually built on basic assumptions that science is not value-freeand, thereby, teleological, i.e. acting for the sake of human civilization, usefulness, and happiness. These axiological and metaphysical assumptions are heavily influenced by a metaphysical belief that recognizes the existence and power of God. These axiological and metaphysical assumptions epistemologically imply that there is a source of knowledge and truth other than scientific knowledge and truth.

Abstract

This paper aims to discuss informatively and critically-philosophically the two main discourses, namely The Malays and Malayness, which in the context of history and the dynamics of Malay culture are suggested to overlap, so that it is often misunderstood. The use of Gadamer philosophical hermeneutics as a media in analyzing data in this study is expected to be able to find new understanding of the two themes above, especially in the context of strengthening values and forming culture-based characters. The scrutiny and review of the treasures of Malay culture found that the Malay culture which stretched in a span of three periods, the past-present-future found a starting point as a place for cultural assessment, especially after the entry and development of Islam in the Malay-Indonesian Archipelago. The intended point is the Malay Culture "which is called the fresh culture. "Culture Appearance" takes place continuously and tracks in almost every practice of life without negating the old belief patterns (customs and traditions) that first enter and come into contact with the dynamics of people's lives.

Abstract

This community service activities was designed to (1) give a critical evaluation of the concept and implementation of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Courses on Character Development (Mata Kuliah Pengembangan Kepribadian/MPK) at universities in contemporary Indonesia and (2) to design an appropriate model of implementation of ESD concept for improving the quality of MPK program. The methods on this study are literature studies, workshop on instrument design, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), implementation of ESD concept in co-curricular activities, and evaluation. The program will be held in Center for Pancasila Studies (PSP-UGM), at Taman Makam Pahlawan Kusumanegara, Pakem Orphanage center, and scavengers community in Condongcatur. The expected results of the program are (1) a critical note on the concept and implementation of ESD and MPK at universities in Indonesia and (2) a model and module of implementation of ESD PLUS through Training Kader Bangsa (TKB) which are more adaptable and appropriate with the local genius of Indonesia.

Abstract

Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk: (1) menginventarisasi, mensistematisasi, dan mengeksplisitasi nilai-nilai filsafat kehidupan yang terkandung dalam unsur-unsur utama arsitektur Gedung Pusat UGM; (2) mengevaluasi secara kritis dan menyusun suatu konsepsi relevansi filsafat kehidupan yang terkandung dalam arsitektur Gedung Pusat UGM bagi pengembangan keilmuan di pendidikan tinggi. Penelitian ini menggunakan model penelitian filosofis di lapangan, dengan memadukan data kepustakaan yang ditunjang dengan data lapangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: Pertama, nilai-nilai filosofis Gedung Pusat UGM dapat digali dari sejarah dan ajaran filsafat hidup para pendirinya serta makna simbolik yang diwujudkan dalam bentuk arsitektur bangunannya. Kedua, Para pendiri Gedung Pusat UGM mengajarkan tentang keluhuran budi (pengabdian kepada bangsa, keikhlasan, kesabaran, kegigihan, keuletan dan pantang menyerah), serta keluasan ilmu dan pengetahuan yang mampu mengharmoniskan berbagai aliran pemikiran kefilsafatan yang sedang berkembang di masanya, dan merupakan puncak-puncak peradaban dunia; Ketiga, Arsitektur Gedung Pusat UGM mengajarkan tentang keberhasilan ilmuwan UGM, meramu berbagai aliran-aliran pemikiran yang berkembang di dunia dalam ramuan khas Indonesia yang berujung pada karya yang baik, benar, indah dan sakral. Keempat, filosofi Gedung Pusat UGM memberi dasar dan orientasi bagi pengembangan ilmu di UGM pada khususnya dan perguruan tinggi di Indonesia pada umumnya untuk senantiasa membangun berdasarkan jati diri, dengan tetap belajar dan bekerjasama dengan dunia luar demi kemanfaatan dan peningkatan peradaban umat manusia.

Abstract

The strength-ness of Damardjati Supadjar philosophical thought method is: unique, operational, and testified. Unique consist in that his thought are special and different from the other philosophers. The meaning of operational is applicable by one who ready to experience it. Testable has a meaning that someone who doing with the method, necessarily acknowledge that the method effective enough to developing the new consciousness. The weakness of the method are: style of the forwarding of ideas which sometime too vulgar (look-likes porno) and to the indigent beginner difficult to catch the substance of ideas, so that they impress the ideas less systematic. The contribution of Damardjati Supadjar method for the developing of philosophy, specially for Indonesian philosophy is to be able to offer the pattern of typical patterned thinking and attitude, representing result of cultural local genius of Java, Nusantara, Islam, And world culture.

Abstract

The critical philosophy of history or the scientific philosophy of history is deal with how historians reconstruct the pas event. Historians in their attempt to explain the pas event, according to the historian philosophers, are able to use of the deductive pattern of explanation. Researcher wants, in the first instance, to explore and reflect the concept of deductive nomological explanation, as it was suggested by Carl Gustav Hempel, William Dray, and Ernest Nagel, and it is implemented in history. Secondly, it wants to criticize and give a way out of the deductive nomological explanataion that is applied in history

Abstract

Filsafat Ilmu merupakan salah satu cabang khusus dari Filsafat yang memiliki kedudukan dan posisi yang strategis dalam membangun paradigma ilmu di Indonesia. Penelitian ini akan mengkaji dan mendeskripsikan tentang kedudukan dan posisi Filsafat dalam paradigma keilmuan yang berkembang. Beberapa hal yang dibahas dalam penelitian ini adalah berikut ini. Pertama, kedudukan dan posisi Filsafat Ilmu sebagai paradigma di Indonesia. Kedua, perkembangan dan pengajaran Filsafat Ilmu dalam perkuliahan mata kuliah Filsafat Ilmu di Indonesia, secara khusus perkembangan buku teks yang ada. Ketiga, orientasi Filsafat Ilmu sebagai disiplin ilmu dari Filsafat yang berkembang di Indonesia. Tujuan dari kajian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis tentang orientasi dan perkembangan Filsafat Ilmu di Indonesia dari aspek paradigma ilmu dan sejarah pemikirannya melalui kajian teks dan buku yang diterbitkan di Indonesia. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan menganalisis sumber atau data dari buku teks, jurnal ilmiah, dokumen, silabus, dan bahan ajar dalam perkuliahan Filsafat Ilmu. Analisis yang digunakan adalah interpretasi, heuristik, dan refleksi filosofis. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Filsafat Ilmu dikembangkan dan diajarkan mengacu pada paradigma Filsafat Ilmu yang berkembang di barat. Struktur yang dibangun dalam mengembangkan Filsafat Ilmu muncul dari kajian Filsafat mulai dari pengetahuan dasar tentang Filsafat sampai pada hakikat ilmu. Orientasi Flsafat Ilmu sebagai disiplin ilmu dari Filsafat yang dikembangkan di Indonesia dari berbagai literatur yang berkembang masih didominasi pada orientasi Filsafat barat.

Abstract

The aims of this study are to explore the philosophical thoughts of Sunan Kalijaga and, to inventory Sunan Kalijaga's philosophical thoughts that affect reinforcement character education in Indonesia. The method in this research is the historical factual character, which is to examine the character's thoughts on current actual problems with the help of the character's literature study. The results are reinforcement character education in Indonesia through the philosophical thinking of Sunan Kalijaga and, an education model characterized by Indonesia. Character education based on the philosophical values of these figures will lay the foundation for values to build strength and a basis for legitimacy for the practice of life, whether carried out by students at school or in everyday life. With the philosophical values of figures in character education, it will color the face of education in Indonesia to start building a non-western educational paradigm based on the embryo of national identity, namely the Nusantara.
