Abstract

Burnout is a psychological syndrome caused by acute stress that characterized by emotional exhaustion and disability to sustain the work productivity. In the project management context, burnout can reduce productivity and increase the idle work. This research aims to examine the concept of burnout in the context of Indonesian project managers. This research was done by the cross-section survey with the questionnaire based on the job demands-resources (JD-R) concept adopted from some earlier research. The response rate of 27.22 percent obtained from 78 project manager in Indonesia with the results indicate that job resources affect job demands, the job demands affect burnout which affects job satisfaction at least.

Abstract

Crowdfunding is one of the alternative sources of finance for product-based startups. Products are funded if the campaign is considered to be successful in reaching the target. The assessment of the success rate of product campaigns develops into three successive levels, namely overfunding, successful and unsuccessful. Due to the complication of setting up a product campaign on an online crowdfunding platform, a mobile application to aid campaigners needs to be developed. Moreover, it is essential to evaluate its ease to use. This study aims to (1) develop an android-based application, (2) evaluate the usability of the application based on user perceptions. The application ('POSCA') was developed by emphasizing user experience (UX), while the Use Questionnaire evaluated its usability. Ten participants were invited to evaluate the system usability and interface. The results suggest that 'POSCA' has good scores of usability: ‘efficiency’ = 49.11% in the fifth trial, ‘very-easy-to-learn’ (95%), ‘useful’ (85%), ‘easy-to-use’ (87%), and ‘satisfy-the-users’ (88%).

Abstract

Various studies in the field of traumatic effect or stress after disaster, commonly known as PSTD or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder have been caried out. Many researchers have tested the effects of disasters and PTSD, but the correlation value are different. The purpose of this study was to obtain the actual value of the correlation. This study collected the correlation value of 21 existing research results. The results of this study showed that the average of correlation is 2SD greater than 0 equal to 0.069864. This value has been indicated that there is positive correlation between disaster and Stress (PTSD), so the hypothesis is accepted by the population correlation value 0.074256, sampling error 0.43%. It shows that disaster variable always positively correlated to increased stress behavior among adults.

Abstract

Abstract

The first step to do disaster management accurately is getting comprehensive information about disaster. A situational map is the overview of the disaster situation based on geo-spatial information at a particular time. This map is a tool which can gain comprehensive information in emergency. This study aims to complement earlier research with re test confidence level variable that is divided for object detection, type, and location. Besides this study examines collecting information system in emergency situation model that used to be used by police agencies which is using mediator. this study is conducted by experiments that involved 48 participants that were divided in 16 groups. The participants sample consisted of wide variety of different majority and educational level in UGM and non UGM with age range between 19 and 29 years old (Mean = 24; SD = 2.68). The whole experiments are collaboration, collaboration with confidence level and collaboration with mediator. Assessments of experiment accuracy were used three kinds which are checklist, detection and position of objects. Another factor that is considered is prior knowledge of mediator and respondent. This study using α = 5% and ANOVA showed position information more accurate with confidence level model. Other information like checklist and detection could using all model. Prior knowledge have not affected in improving map accuracy.

Abstract

Small and Medium Industries (SMIs) have a strategic role in the Indonesian economy, as they earn 61.9 percent of the foreign exchange which goes to make up the nation’s Gross Domestic Product, and nationally they are able to absorb 97 percent of the workforce. The Global Competitiveness Report also notes that SMIs serve as the business units that affect every nation’s competitiveness. Considering this strategic role, the selection of a competitive strategy for these SMIs is absolutely necessary. Through an in-depth literature review, this study aims to explore what variables influence the competitive strategy of industries, particularly the SMIs. By using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with a total of 31 main literature (articles, papers and books), this study has found two dominant factors that influence industrial competitive strategy: Competitive advantage and human advantage, which are subsequently developed into six independent variables (construct variables), i.e. cost, delivery, product quality, product variety, know-how and innovativeness, with a total of 44 indicators. The results of measurements of the sample of SMIs in Gorontalo Province, using Structural Equation Modeling, found that both competitive advantage and human advantage jointly influence 40.2 percent of the industrial competitive strategies. These results indicate that competitive strategies, such as creating products with unique features, on-time delivery, flexibility in production, and employee involvement in the innovations, are indispensable to SMIs in order for them to produce quality products and be able to maintain their advantage.

Abstract

Uniqueness is a major characteristic of any project systems. Hence it is virtually in-feasible for project analysts to utilize data from past projects as references for subsequent project planning and scheduling. Most project analysts would then depend on intuition, gut feeling and experiences to develop quantitative models for project scheduling and analysis which, according to past studies, is prone towards systematic errors. This study attempts to investigate the perfor-mance of both ‘experts’ and ‘non-experts’ when utilizing their cognitive capability to estimate pro-ject durations in group/non-group settings. A cognitive ergonomics perspective -which views human capability to make judgment as rationally bounded - is utilized in this investigation. An empirical approach is used to inquiry data from ‘projects’ on which ‘experts’ and ‘non-experts’ are required to provide prior estimate on project durations. The estimates are then gauged against the actual duration. Results show that some systematic cognitive judgmental errors (biases) are observable for both experts and non-experts. The identified biases include: anchoring bias as well as accuracy bias.

Abstract

During project implementation, risk becomes an integral part of project monitoring. Therefore. a tool that could dynamically include elements of risk in project progress monitoring is needed. This objective of this study is to develop a general framework that addresses such a concern. The developed framework consists of three interrelated major building blocks, namely: Risk Register (RR), Bayesian Network (BN), and Project Time Networks (PTN) for dynamic project monitoring. RR is used to list and to categorize identified project risks. PTN is utilized for modeling the relationship between project activities. BN is used to reflect the interdependence among risk factors and to bridge RR and PTN. A residential development project is chosen as a working example and the result shows that the proposed framework has been successfully applied. The specific model of the development project is also successfully developed and is used to monitor the project progress. It is shown in this study that the proposed BN-based model provides superior performance in terms of forecast accuracy compared to the extant models.

Abstract

Products succeed if they meet customer needs and expectations. However, the capability of a corporation or organization to achieve the success of its products is determined by many variables, including being able to exploit its internal and external resources. This study is aimed to test variables that generate impacts on successful products. With the aid of research tool Vosviewer, a bibliometric network is mapped based on Scopus data of previous publications. Then an in-depth analysis is conducted on variables that are identified with a systematic review technique, in which corporational internal and external factors that have great significance on the success of products are grouped. By virtue of this research, a conceptual model is built to describe how corporational internal and external resources affect product success. It is found driving forces in promoting success of products are four internal resources like product characteristics, organization & management characteristics, innovative, and knowledge sharing, and one external resource market characteristics. The conceptual model built in this study would serve as a model for measuring the success of product development in the subsequent studies.

Abstract

The construction industry, as one of the project-based industries, is still considered as a one-off. Knowledge is often not codified and gone in the next project. Project complexity also brings a more significant challenge to the successful performance of the construction industry. This study examined how codification might affect organizational performance in the construction industry and how project complexity affects their relationship. Findings from 54 construction firms in Indonesia indicated that, as separate independent variables, codification and project complexity brought a positive influence on organizational performance. However, as a moderator variable, project complexity may bring a negative impact on the relationship between codification and organizational performance. There were two clusters formed from cluster analysis, which indicated respondents’ different levels of codification implementation.
