Abstract

This study aims to investigate the differences between engineering students and engineers on whistleblowing intentions, the effect of cultural dimensions on whistleblowing intentions, and the effect of ethnic differences on whistleblowing intentions. Each respondent was faced with three cases: a case involving a superior, a case involving a colleague, and an unknown case who was responsible. Each respondent is asked to provide an assessment related to the seriousness of cases, responsibilities and intentions to conduct whistleblowing internally or externally. Result indicate that students have intention to do internal whistleblowing higher than engineer. The lower the power distance, the higher the internal whistleblowing intention. The higher collectivism and long-term orientation, the higher the internal whistleblowing intention. Significant ethnic differences in intent to conduct whistleblowing are found in internal whistleblowing for unknown cases, and external whistleblowing in cases involving superiors

Abstract

Abstract

Lockdown is one way to reduce the transmission rate of COVID-19. Nevertheless, on the other hand, lockdowns also increase human psychological problems to cause the emergence of emotional eating. In addition, social media exposure that presents food photos can trigger the desire to eat. However, this only applies to high-fat and high-calorie foods, while healthy foods do not have the same stimuli. Therefore, more research is needed on the properties of healthy food photos desired by consumers in order to be able to create or design healthy food photos with an effect that resembles photos of high-fat and high-calorie foods. This study employed the Kansei Engineering approach in designing healthy food photos. Through Kansei Engineering, we can determine the nature of healthy food photos consumers want. The type of Kansei engineering used in this study was Kansei Engineering Type I and was limited to the Semantic Space stage. The process of factor reduction from the results of the semantic differential was carried out by using factor analysis to obtain the most critical factors related to healthy food photos. The semantic space spanning resulted in 23 pairs of Kansei words that related and represented healthy food photos. Based on the factor analysis results, these Kansei words were then into 6-factor groups. Each of the factor groups was represented by the Kansei word pair with the highest loadings value. The selected pair of Kansei words showed that healthy food photos could be represented by Kansei words attractive, contrast, proper lighting, neat, high-quality image, and straightforward.

Abstract

This study investigates users’ trust and reliance toward navigation systems. Forty participants participated in the experiment comparing Google Maps and Waze that have different mechanisms (data-based vs community-based). Our findings revealed that users had higher trust in Waze than Google Maps, due to the higher degree of flexibility in information sharing. Next, we found that users tend to utilize the navigation application that they have used, implying that trust in navigation system is highly associated with trustors’ prior experience and familiarity. Lastly, Google Maps users changed their reliance on Google Maps to Waze upon experiencing Waze features. This study offers several implications that system designers: (i) must ensure that the system’s transparency is maintained, (ii) should profoundly analyze possible interaction between users and computer agents, (iii) should ensure that certain safety conditions are maintained despite the freedom of information sharing provided by the computer agent

Abstract

The growing competition among coffee shops demands effective strategies, including the development of optimal pricing. An optimal pricing strategy must account for both changes in coffee ingredients and consumers' willingness to pay (WTP). This study investigated the factors influencing consumers' WTP and determined optimal prices through sensory evaluations of iced coffee. This study explored how demographic factors and sensory characteristics affect consumer WTP. This study involved direct consumer tastings, where participants provided subjective ratings of iced coffee and indicated their WTP. The coffee samples included variations in milk (white and black coffee) and sugar content (granulated sugar, palm sugar, and no sugar). To measure WTP, the Becker-DeGroot-Marschak (BDM) mechanism was employed, while a demand function was used to determine the optimal price. Stepwise backward logistic regression further analyzed the factors affecting WTP. The factors influencing willingness to pay were further analyzed using stepwise backward logistic regression. The findings reveal that optimal pricing varies, with iced coffee that includes both granulated sugar and milk commanding the highest WTP. Consumer WTP is significantly influenced by factors such as gender, frequency of coffee consumption, and individual taste preferences. There was a marked difference in WTP based on the amount of milk and sugar added, with coffee variations containing both granulated sugar and milk achieving the highest WTP. These results can serve as a valuable reference for coffee shops, helping them to determine the ideal product composition and pricing strategies to maximize revenue.

Abstract

Working in hot and humid environments poses significant challenges to thermoregulation and potentially affects performance and health. Strategies for mitigating heat stress are critical for workers exposed to high thermal loads. This study investigated practical cooling strategies, that is, phase-change vest (PCV) cooling and crushed ice (ICE) ingestion, before a physical activity in a hot and humid environment to alleviate heat strain. Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of the cooling methods: the first experiment involved participants wearing a PCV for precooling, and the second experiment involved participants consuming an ICE (7.5 g/kg body mass) before exercising under the same conditions. Physiological responses including tympanic temperature, skin temperature, and heart rate, along with perceptual measures such as thermal sensation and perceived exertion, were assessed. The results showed that both the PCV and ICE interventions effectively reduced heat strain, although they had different effects. PCV cooling effectively reduces physiological and perceptual strains immediately after physical exertion; however, this effect does not last in the recovery phase. In contrast, ICE ingestion reliably lessens physiological and perceptual strains throughout the activity and recovery periods, substantially impacting both physical strain and the perception of effort. These findings highlight the significance of ICE ingestion as an effective strategy for enhancing worker health and safety in demanding thermal environments.

Abstract

Fast food is the most favored food among various age groups, from children to the elderly. There are several well-known fast food brands, such as McDonald's (MCD) and Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC). Both brands compete in innovating and promoting their products to reach a wide target market and continuously strive to improve the quality of their products. Improved product quality is often achieved through interactions between businesses and consumers via digital marketing. Digital marketing is a medium that can accurately represent consumer needs. One of the methods used in digital marketing is through posters. This is necessary to understand consumers' desires through the thinking process when receiving information from the posters provided. This study involved 20 respondent with an average age of 30.45 ± 8.7 years. These respondent were asked to undergo two data collection processes: eye tracking through a gaze recorder website and questionnaire filling through a provided Google Form. The aim of this research is to determine the fast food brand preferences chosen by respondent based on the information obtained using Eye Tracking and the Human Information Processing Model. The results of this study indicate differences in the outcomes of the dwell time results for each age factor and time spent in AOI did not exhibit significant differences among respondent.
